It can be very difficult to create lasting change in your life without ongoing support, feedback, and an understanding of why you do what you do, and how your behaviors serve you.

I was always amazed by how that banner impacted my students. I would hear them repeating the words to encourage each other when an assignment was difficult, or saying it to me when I would lapse into some explanation about why we couldn't do something as a class. I found myself repeating the message on that banner as a sort of mantra, especially when I was taking a risk to begin something new, or asking my students to do the same.
Most of us grow up being told to not be who we are. We get taught to hide our authentic self in order to please others, maintain relationships, and avoid conflict. The outcome of this is that our precious lives are not our own. We lose the ability to hear what we really want, value, and love. This can result in depression, anxiety, or both.
Some anxiety is a normal part of life, and it exists on a continuum from butterflies in the stomach to a full on panic attack. It's a version of the body's fight or flight mechanism switching on when it senses danger, and wants to be ready to protect itself or escape. For example, if you are hiking and you see a mountain lion, you want your fight or flight system to kick in!
Being in a relationship is rewarding, loving, supportive, and affirming- until it isn't. Then relationships can create the most excruciating pain. How is it that the tide of relationship can turn so quickly? Knowing how to navigate the challenging territory of relationship can be extremely difficult, especially if you've had no education around conflict resolution, skillful communication, and how to be present with emotional pain.
Parenting is hard, and there are no easy answers because there is no one size fits all approach that works for every family or every child or every developmental stage. As parents, we are constantly needing to adapt and to do our own work to become more conscious and less reactive. Who couldn't use some help with that?!
