Lauren Fergus is the best! I had damaged my curly hair so much with over processing and straightening my hair constantly that it was thin, brittle and literally limp and no longer curly. I came to her as no one else would touch my hair in the state is was in. She made me put down the heating tools and told me to trust her. She guided me through a hair journey from early 2019 to present late 2021 (and hopefully forever!) I've been going to Bateau since it first opened and to Nicole specifically for the past 3 years for haircut and balayage. She's an excellent colorist and stylist, and just a genuinely kind and fun person to get to know as you get your hair done every few months. I've always been selective about my colorists, but Nicole is such a pro that she had my total confidence and trust from day one.

The salon itself is great, clean, and well appointed with beautiful artwork. It has always felt safe to me throughout the pandemic.

Polite staff, they’re following all covid protocols. Their hair products also worked very well for my hair. My stylist also carefully heard out my regular hair care routine so she could pick the right products for me.

I have been getting my hair done by Krystin for years and have been absolutely thrilled with the results! I struggled to find someone for years who listened well and did a high quality/consistent job with my color. Krystin always takes the time to consult before each appointment. She offers helpful, knowledgeable advice based on her expertise amd experience. She is super personable, fun, and high energy. My appointments are always on time (or early) and I get a ton of compliments on my hair. I'm thrilled to have found her!

My first haircut in 6 months due to Covid was an ideal experience at this new-to-me salon. Super Covid-cautious. Lovely space. Easy parking along the Embarcadero. And my cut with Lauren was excellent.

Nicola is a master. Love how every cut looks good no matter how long I wait between cuts. Quarantine has left me with few options for haircuts and honestly my hair is still looking great! Don't trust anyone else with my cuts

I met Nicola on opening day for cut and color. Very good experience and I felt safe and secure the entire time. Nicola and team have been thorough in making the salon very clean and aafe with a new air filtration system and multiple processes to ensure safety. I was very happy to get my grey roots covered and my dry ends nipped in an relaxing space as usual.

Loved my haircut with April!!! She took the time to listen to what I was going after and did exactly what I had in mind. My curls now happily form the waves without any styling products, which I know is a sure sign of a haircut done right! Five stars all around, plus on top of tea and water they offered wine! 🍷

This place is the best! I primarily get my hair cut by Nicola -- she really did change my whole relationship with my hair! I've been going to her for 7 years now, and she's amazing. I also really trust all the other staff there, as well. I've had various services (cuts, color, keratin) from other folks, and they're all amazing. They listen, do really amazing work, and are just nice to be around. I think they work really well as a team, and that really shows in the environment they create in the salon. I've been going to Lauren for the last year and I have gotten more compliments on my hair than the entire rest of my life! As a man with wavy/curly hair, it can be difficult to find someone who really knows how to cut it well. Whether I ask for a style that requires a little product and attention or something more practical, Lauren always delivers with a look that I didn't even know I wanted. I've noticed that the less specific instructions I give her, the more I like the end result! She is also very accommodating with scheduling. The salon itself is quite spacious and comfortable

My hair was in need of some TLC while I was away on a business trip, nowhere near any of my usual places. I called Bateau and they had a cancelation and could squeeze me in that day. Perfect! I was a bit worried, having never been there, but ended up loving my experience. Lauren Fergus did my color and if I were in SF fulltime, she'd be my go-to from here on out. She gave me a quick, honest consultation, colored up, and had me out the door.

Lauren Fergus is very knowledgeable and has a kind spirt. I loved her energy and was very honest with me about my black hair that's been dyed with box dye for many years that it likely will not come out the way I intend it to. She was kind enough to do a test strand and as we expected it didn't come out the way I wanted to but she assured me to give it more time so I will be back to dye it with her. She gave me an awesome haircut which I love!! Hope you get her!!

Nice clean spacious salon. Love the little accents and it's hard to beat the view. I went thru Shab for my color and cut. She is awesome! I've got Asian hair which doesn't take color easily. She knew how to color treat my hair... a plus! And you always have to give bonus points when they don't push products on you...

I've been getting my hair cut by Krystin for several years now, and I can easily recommend her services for an on-point gents haircut. She can do short or long styles, and she is great at figuring-out the exact look you're going for (e.g. "grown-out Ryan Gosling with a buzz-cut"). Another great thing about Krystin is that she is very quick, so you can get-in, get-out, and you're back to work with time to spare for a relaxed cup of coffee.

Nicole is the most talented hairstylist I've ever had (and hopefully the last one i'll ever need). She asks all the right questions before she starts, really listens to your answers and manages to pull off styles I would have never considered with anyone else (for example, bangs and layers - which i used to swear off every time i got them elsewhere).
