Our founder, Dr. Joann Young, began her veterinary career in Washington State, but in 2000 returned to her New England roots with idea to create a cats-only veterinary practice from the ground up. To begin her "from scratch" concept, a site was selected on Watson Road, just outside of downtown Dover, near the community crossroads.
The Cat Doctor of Dover is a full-service, feline-only veterinary hospital, established in 2001. As the name implies, it's cats-only at The Cat Doctor! Our practice provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental health care for cats, as well as comfortable (your cat might even say luxurious) climate-controlled facilities for boarding*.
The Cat Doctor of Dover is dedicated to the health and wellness of your pet cat. The medical staff is highly trained and experienced in the delivery of veterinary services, and the practice is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for top-notch care. This means the treatment of injuries and illnesses, but also the maintenance of health over your cat's lifetime.
First class cats-only boarding is available to established patients of The Cat Doctor of Dover. Our "cat condos" are luxurious accommodations, separate and distinct from the medical/recovery kennels. Each boarding suite is four stories of cat comfort and stimulation. The upper floors have windows to the outdoor world, and there's a quiet basement to get away from it all.
Good news for cats: maintaining health isn't just about getting poked and prodded by the vet. It's also eating! The appropriate diet can make all the difference in the well-being, comfort, and happiness of your pet. And a diet is definitely not one-size-fits all. The Cat Doctor of Dover will craft your cat's diet plan based upon factors such as overall health, underlying conditions, body chemistry, test results, and medical needs.

Dr. Sharon at The Cat Doctor is the absolute BEST! Their entire team is so knowledgeable, so friendly & so conscious about what's best for your kitty. My boy is very anxious about car rides & carriers. He's always so spun up but they do such a great job calming him down & helping to put him at ease. They have carside service right now due to COVID. Although you can't go in to be with your kitty during the appointment (which is hard for anxious cats & cat parents alike), they came out to the car & stood in the cold for 20 minutes talking through everything with us. We have been a Cat Doctor family

I was nervous about finding a new vet for my 2 senior cats after moving, but I got so lucky to find the Cat Doctor of Dover. The first time I brought them in, I was amazed at how relaxed my cats were within minutes of being seen by the vet. They were purring and accepting attention and treats happily, something I had never seen at previous vet visits. I have been going here for a few years now and whether it is for routine check ups, dental care or an emergency, all of the staff has been great. Their care for your cats shows in how they handle them as well as how they discuss any concerns with

I took my kitten there and he was sedated without my permission and I was told to sedate my 4 month old kitten daily. The receptionist I spoke to on the phone was very rude each time I called. The Dr. was also very rude when I spoke with her on the phone. When I called to get my kittens records switched over to a different animal hospital, I spoke to the vet. She gave me attitude and didn't seem to care why she was losing my business. If she doesn't care about losing customers how much can they really care for the animals. I felt like I was being taken advantage of and my cat was not in good hands

I made the appointment about 2 weeks before I brought my cat for his appointment. I traveled a long distance to get there, and was early.
When I showed up, the women at the front desk told me I was not down for the appointment. She told me the other women who was working there 2 weeks ago took my cats information and put it in a folder with no appointment attached. So I asked her if they could still see my cat, and she said not today. They do not have it together. I will never be going there again.
Very Dissatisfied.

Love this place! The whole staff is warm, kind, and knowledgeable. You can see how much they love cats. I would highly recommend Dr. Young and the The Cat Doctor as they are the cat experts. They gave my girl a safe place to reside while we vacationed, and give a welcoming atmosphere for medical visits. It's a great place!

Excellent vet! Our older (14 year old) cat received excellent care from Dr Young. She is very knowledgeable and shares her expertise in a friendly, understanding way. When our cat needed end-of-life care, Dr. Young gave me all the choices and made me feel like she was a supportive partner in the choices. Highly recommend her to any cat owners!!!

I would highly recommend The Cat Doctor to anyone with a furry feline friend. After taking my cat to another vet twice and not receiving any conclusive information as to why he was losing hair, I tried The Cat Doctor thanks to a recommendation of a friend. Dr. Young was extremely friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. She provided me with plenty of information and thoroughly answered all of my questions. With it being a cat only vet place, I felt more reassured walking in there, and I was not disappointed. Highly recommend!
