Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. The goal of veterinary acupuncture is to promote the body to heal itself. Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles into body tissue where nerve bundles and blood vessels come together, otherwise known as acupuncture points.
Firstly, our pets can't speak, they cannot tell us if they feel off colour or unwell or have any other indicators of internal illness. Ideally, we need to examine them every 6 months as well as run some routine screening tests to detect underlying disease BEFORE it is clinically apparent. Secondly, pets will actively mask signs of illness until late in the course of disease.
Many people have questions about various aspects of their pet's surgery, and we hope this information will help. It also explains the decisions you will need to make before your pet's upcoming surgery. Today's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past.
Here at Great Bay Animal Hospital, we do a thorough physical exam on your pet before administering anesthetics, to ensure that a fever or other illness won't be a problem. We also adjust the amount and type of anesthetic used depending on the health of your pet. The handout on anesthesia explains this in greater detail.

The best way to show how awesome they are is that I am still driving 2x1.5 hours back and forth to see them after moving away.
All the vet techs are super nice, caring, and accomodating. This is the first vet where I don't have to constantly fight the upselling of unnecessary exams, procedures, or products. Of course, there is some fluctuation among the vets; I felt less aligned with some than with others, but all together they are very professional, knowledgable, and are great at including you in the decision process regarding your pet. I bring my cat here. The vets are awesome and honest about everything, they never try to sell you medicine or expensive treatments when they don't believe they are necessary. All of the staff there are very loving and caring when dealing with my cat and the other animals! They have always been great about trying to accommodate my more time sensitive issues, when they can! I highly recommend them!

Best veterinary hospital in the area!
After a horrifying experience at another local veterinary hospital, I left seeking better care and found it at Great Bay Animal Hospital. They helped me through losing two of my pets in just eight days. I cannot say enough about the kindness and compassion that the entire staff showed with each phone call and visit. I especially want to thank Sue, who took each panicked call from me. I was treated like a family member, and I felt like she truly cared.
I am extremely grateful this practice. I will never go anywhere else!

I am new to the area. Used Great Bay for our vet and most recently for boarding our two Pomeranians and one cat. I assumed that Bordatella vaccines were required to stay in the facility as anywhere else it normally is. I returned from my trip and found that both of my pups had contracted Kennel Cough. I called the vet office the morning after picking them up and was instructed to bring them in for an office visit. I explained that we were self-quarantining and wouldn't be able to do that. They told me that they would prescribe an antibiotic to cure the kennel cough. I was also told

I've been to there multiple times, and for each visit I had to wait more than 30 minutes when I arrived on my appointment time. I have no problem waiting if I didn't schedule my appointment, and that's not the case. Even though there's no one else waiting, they seem to forget I was there until I ask so. Overall, the service was okay, but they clearly fail to manage time and have no idea what "appointment" means.

I came to GBAH because I had a terrible experience with my previous vet. It was the best move I've made. They are always there to answer any questions I have and are always so sweet with my girls. They have never pushed any unnecessary treatment on my pups and have always taken time to tell me all my options allowing me to make an informed decision. If I take them to their Doggy Daycare or Kennel they will work on getting them in during the day for any shots they may need which is extremely convenient!

Been there twice with my cat. We didn't have an appointment the first time so we had to wait like an hour, but what do you expect without an appointment. The vet, Dr. Adler, knew her stuff. This place has helpful techs, and everybody who works here is great with animals. Front desk staff is friendly. So the second time I went there I saw Dr. Adler again and again she knows her stuff. Very thorough about explaining what happened to my kitty. Even consulted with another vet about follow up care in a serious situation. I would never hesitate to take my cat here again.

We've taken our cats there twice now and they are just awesome! Recent trip today, my cat was wheezing and right off the get go after listening to us and his lungs, she said it sounded like asthma. One x-ray later and sure enough that was his issue. I love the staff, they're friendly and I liked they way they interact with my cats. Made sure they had a good grip on him to take him back for the x-at and bringing him back. It's a bit of a drive but I believe well worth it.

Although GBAH is not our regular vet, Dr. Jim agreed to let my dog come in for knee surgery with local specialist/surgeon Dr Geoffrey Clark. The day before surgery Dr Jim called to answer any questions and talk about pain relief options. As soon as surgery was over Dr Clark called to explain the entire procedure.
Upon pick-up the following day, Dr Adler was excellent in going over all the instructions and making sure we had enough meds to deal with pain and anxiety for several days. The receptionists have been completely courteous throughout our entire experience. I could not be happier with GBAH

I live in Atlanta but come up every summer with my dog. He had a lump I wanted checked out and this place had great reviews. Maybe I'm just spoiled because my vet in Atlanta is absolutely exceptional, but I found this place to be more or less average. The receptionist was nice but the vet moved quickly and didn't have that level of compassion for my "best friend". He seemed a little rushed and annoyed to explain things to me. Good place to go but definitely not exceptional.

I honestly can't say enough great things about Dr. Jim and his staff at Great Bay. A warm, friendly greeting every time I arrive, call, or they call me to give results of a test or procedure.

Absolutely wonderful things to say about this vet hospital. After moving to the area in mid-June, I had to find a place to bring our puppy for updated vaccines before being boarded in a kennel. I found the techs and doctor at Great Bay to be gentle, knowledgeable, and not really at all pushy with medicines or other products. As long as I was firm about not wanting something, they didn't push the issue or make me feel uncomfortable.
I recently came here again to get our puppy neutered, and they were excellent in caring for my dog the way they should. They explained everything, and were gentle

I have been bringing my two cats to this Vet for over nine years and I have only good things to say about them. Both of my cats developed a skin allergy and the Vets we saw worked for years to determine what could be the cause and how to help my cats be more comfortable (it turned out to be a mix between a dust allergy and food allergy). They were always patient and understanding when a slightly anxious cat-mom would come in with concerns. They were also very sensitive about cost and were able to give me options with my budget in mind. They absolutely did not push unnecessary tests and treatments
