Booked a sightseeing trip to NY for my whole family. I read all the reviews before I booked and I can’t argue that the hotel is old and the rugs in the room could be replaced and one of my blinds didn’t work properly. However, the location is beyond excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, the place had some great nostalgic charm, the beds were awesome, the shower was clean, and the price was by far below anything remotely close to to their competitors. The beds were clean and very comfortable, there was plenty of room and loved having a refrigerator and microwave for our restaurant leftovers

This was the best hotel I have stayed in, in a long time. No it is not fancy, shiny & new BUT it was clean, quiet and very well located in Midtown. The staff was great, rooms large, even had a kitchenette in one room, didn't use with all the food options nearby, but nice to have. Also had a bathtub!!
Great hotel for the price.

The Roger Smith hotel is located in a perfect spot in NYC but the hotel does not show it. The hotel needs some major updating. The plumbing is very old, the decor is outdated, the carpeting needs to be ripped out and burned. I kind of understand that they may be looking for the old hotel vibe but I don't think that these lack of upgrades is intentional. The staff however is WONDERFUL. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

The hotel’s website pictures are misleading and tantamount to false advertising. They must have been taken years ago. I have a hard time believing that the recent 5 star reviewers even stepped foot in the hotel. If they did, they weren’t on any of the floors that we were and we were on the 11th, 14th, and 6th. The condition the hotel is appalling. Room 1107 was so dismal that we almost didn’t stay the first night. We were then shown Rooms 1404 and 602 which were slightly better so because we were exhausted we didn’t leave immediately. We were booked for 4 nights, stayed two, and that was

Rooms have wood floors with area rugs which are covered in stains. Room is not vacuumed which is most noticeable on the carpet. Main hallway carpets are stained and there is a strong unpleasant odor in these areas. Found a bug in the bed as well. It was too large to be a bed bug so unsure of what it was.. Unfortunately we have nonrefundable rates which are not cheap or else we would have immediately left as soon as we entered our room.

The hotel was very accommodating. The street entry is under the renovation but a great place to lay your head while vacating in New York. It is great Downtown location near subway/train access, Times Square, and Amy Ruth's Soul Food Restaurant!

We had to leave the hotel on our first night because of bed bugs. I was covered in nearly 20 bed bugs when I woke up at 1am and found many more crawling on the bed. We had to quarantine all of our clothes, shower, and head downstairs to discuss the situation with the employee at the front desk. I still have bed bug bite marks on my body 3 weeks later.
We were not about to stay another night. The attendant at the front desk assured us that we would not be charged for either night. We had to find another hotel late at night (got into the new hotel at 2am) with no help from Hotels.com.
After discussing

I have stayed here every year for a few years with no issues. This time around there were multiple issues that made my stay uncomfortable. The TV did not work, we were told multiple times that no one was available to check on the TV. The second night we were told the same thing, shortly after the power went out in the room. We were moved upstairs to a different room. So this time around my stay here wasn't up to the standards that I am used to. The only reason I didn't give 3 stars is because my stay here was better in the past.

The only thing great about this place was the location, the staff and maybe the beds for sleeping. The hotel is OLD. It is dated and dirty. The rooms we stayed in had dinghy, dirty carpets. The furniture was scuffed. The bathrooms had hair. The water went out the second day we got there and we were given gallon jugs of water to help flush the toilet and we're told we could shower at the gym next door. One of the rooms we stayed in had cold water which we used to wash ourselves with wash cloths we brought from home. The hotel didn't provide any. When the water came back on the next day

Pros: very spacious, homey feeling, clean, large comfortable king bed, small outside patio area

Cons: pictures from the website show the renovated rooms, we got a much older looking run down room. We got the two bedroom suite. The second bedroom had a very small twin bed, the tv in that room did not work and there was no air conditioning in the room and it was very stuffy. We asked for a pack and play for our baby to sleep in when we reserved the room, we also called in our way to confirm the pack and play would be available and set up in our room. It was not. We arrived late at night with a cranky

It's 4:45 AM and the fire alarm has been going off for 45 minutes. The staff don't seem to care at all. They keep saying they "called out for repair". Unbelievable. This is the worst hotel w the worst customer service I've ever stayed at. Stay very far away.

Within walking distance to Rockefeller Plaza, Grand Central station, Macy's, St. Patrick's Cathedral! There is a Walgreens across the street! Lexington Brass is a restaurant literally a block away and was delicious!! Felt safe the entire stay here!

The check in process was extremely easy! They do charge $25.00/ night hotel fee or resort fee that isn't included in the pricing. But I had done enough research and knew about it up front! We stayed during the Christmas season so the prices we higher than normal. All the hotels around also extremely expensive due to the Holidays. I think

This hotel is nestled right in midtown east, and right by one of my favorites (The Lexington) so I decided to give them a try, I usually avoid this place because it always looks closed and haunted. The rate was good, so sure. This place is not modern like all the hotels surrounding the area. The front desk attendant was interning and not knowledgeable about the system making me very uncomfortable. The first part of my stay I have $100 cash for my deposit and although I requested a room with a King Size? They have me a double. The next day when I had to renew my room, I was running late and called

I really wanted to give a positive review. But whoever processes reservations needs to get their sh*# together. My boss reserved and paid for my room in advance. At checkout, no record of payment. Hmm.

So I offer to pay except instead of asking which card I would like to use, he bills my debit card and promptly overdraws my checking account. So, now he has to credit my debit card and charge my other card at a higher room rate. I overhear them say,"They don't take AMEX payments over the phone even with a written signed order." Huh?
And travel agents don't have to be at the

I checked in to the hotel for my guest yesterday, when we reached the hotel lobby and couldn't find a place to sit or a table to write??! The staffs had put their art all over the places? I think they just waiting for someone to hang to the wall, i was wondering why they choose to put the art on the chair, and table instead, not letting the guests sitting it or using the table ??? The timing I went in the lobby are full of guests standing!!!??? Come up u duh do that ...???

Our family of 5 stayed here on a recent vacation to NYC. The staff was wonderful! Rooms are spacious and clean. Our king room with an adjoining king suite had a table, small but adequate kitchen and couch. The sofa bed was quite comfortable according to my 16-year-old daughter. It's s great location for easy access to Gran Central Station and a short walk to Rockefeller Plaza. A little further to Central Park and Times Square but very doable. Our only complaint was the lack of outlets for charging devices. We thought it was a good value and will likely stay there again. We'll just bring

Cute hotel. Very "bed-and-breakfast-y" in the middle of the city. That vintage feel. There is free wi-fi and yogurt and fruit are available in the lobby throughout the day.

We got checked in before 1-1:30 pm, the time we arrived at the hotel . The hotel has green carpeting and too congested looking interior . our room is on 12th floor. No noise . Bed is comfortable and clean . The room is with green wallpaper and very old stained green carpet . we have a small library with books but the furniture are old and stained . The bathroom is old and got marks and bathtub has hair and not clean . The room has a damp smell .
overall super duper trashy joint for the price we are paying . Only thing is , it is okay for one night and the location is very convenient.

I had a great stay in the Roger Smith Hotel. I personally like vintage furniture or anything related to it so I think this hotel is very vintage and artistic.

The room is big compared to NYC hotel room. Especially, I like that they provided the NESPRESSO coffee in the room. I can make espresso in the morning before going to conference. They were very warm too because I put a "don't disturb" sign out there, but they left a note for me to guide me contact them if I ever need any additional towels or stuff.

So far I have a good stay, and hope to come back in the future.

This hotel has many benefits but some liability also. Pros: Fair price, about $300 for a junior suite. Lots of charm; traditionally decorated. Great location, within walking distance of Times Square and other great places. Free passes to New York sports club . Cute roof top bar! Cons: THE AIR CONDITIONING DOES NOT WORK!!
We are here in May, with 85-90 temperatures. I think it's at least 80 in our room! First I had the mechanic come up and look at the thermostat, which did not help. Room 910 also has a very loud unit that goes, "RRRRGGH, RERRGGHH, RERRGGH!" So we
