Self-defense is a serious subject, and the training needs to be serious. Let us be clear: one's physical, emotional, and psychological fitness levels will be what keeps one alive in a self-preservation scenario. This is why we place such a strong emphasis on reaching thresholds in 'training'.
Every class we teach is situated in the larger context of building 'Survival Competency', and every class stresses the importance of how discipline leads to awareness, which directly contributes to our ability to keep ourselves (and others) safe.Children need not only physical fitness, but also emotional, psychological, emotional, intellectual, and social fitness.

Arguably the most well-known martial art in the world, Karate is a striking based fighting style that does not include grappling in its training. Relying on keen focus and a firm center of gravity, Karate teaches you how to strike correctly but more importantly that you must understand the reason behind your strike.

We teach our MMA program as we do our Shotokan karate-do and Kobudo programs: as a martial art. Students are trained in a traditional dojo environment, progress through a belt-rank system, and are required to demonstrate excellence of character befitting of martial artists from our dojo. Our MMA program is not designed to raise cage fighters-we raise disciplined martial artists.
Children need lots of activity to use all the energy they have and grow up healthy and strong. But learning a martial art is much more than that. It also starts a child on a lifelong path of enjoying physical activity in a positive atmosphere. A lack of physical activity is a problem that adults and children face not only in Tucson but throughout the country, and it is one of the main causes of obesity and deteriorating health in our society.

I’ve had a fantastic experience since I started four months ago. Tons of attention to detail and nobody is overlooked by the sensei. You’ll get plenty of personalized instruction. The sensei will let you know exactly what you’re getting into if you’re interested in getting started. Everyone goes through the same curriculum and is held to the same standards. I highly recommend it for anyone that’s looking for a dojo that will push you both mentally and physically. It’s challenging and rewarding.

Although I have only been with this dojo for one quarter, I have had a great experience throughout my time training. Sensei was very encouraging, and although workouts require you to push hard, they are scaled accordingly to people of different sizes and skill levels and leave you feeling proud of what you have accomplished. The people here really make it a great experience.

I really enjoy bringing my son to this dojo! There is no favoritism/seniority amongst dojomates, everyone gets the same attention wether it’s their first week or their fifth year. I love how they take the time to show step by step and make sure that the students understand what it is they’re learning. There’s a lot of motivation, patience and great communication. The sensei is very organized, understanding and professional. Not only is he passionate about passing on his skill set to the youth but he is also passionate about making sure his students are using their manners not just in the dojo

The 5-star Training at Japan Karate Federation Tucson AZ has been transformative. Only a couple months into my time at the Dojo and I had already participated in a CrossFit competition and gone to a Karate tournament. I had previously trained in martial arts when I was younger, but I never realized martial arts training could be at this level. I never imagined how much my time with everyone at the Dojo would help me to grow, both physically and mentally. When I started a year and a half ago, I was out of shape, hadn’t really touched a bar bell and barely knew what the word burpee meant. In the

This is a 5-star dojo! The training is hard and the workouts are demanding, BUT the gains are real and they are earned. This school is able to take someone like me--who is in their late thirties, struggling with obesity, accustomed to a sedentary lifestyle--and get them into a mental and physical condition where they are able to compete in crossfit and martial arts competitions within their first 4 to 5 months of training! The instructor and senior students are passionate and driven to help others to persevere. The curriculum emphasizes physical training and the variety has kept me engaged, and

Our children have been attending MMA at JKF for over 9 months. The MMA program is structured, fun, and challenging. I truly believe one of the biggest benefits of the program is character development. Sensei is experienced and shows solid leadership. He uses positive role modeling to foster good work ethic and morals/values anyone would want their children to have both on and off the mat. Every class challenges our children in the areas of self discipline, mental toughness, and goal setting. They have gained great confidence over the last 9 months by being part of this suppostive community. This

Almost 6 months ago I enrolled my daughter, age 9 at the time, with Japan Karate Federation in Tucson with the specific goal of building self esteem, confidence, begin an exercise regimen as well as learning discipline and respect. I have seen these goals being realized and more as she progresses and learns with Sensei and her fellow students at the dojo. The staff, students and parents are 1st class, mutually supportive and foster a great environment for students to learn and grow. Sensei does a great job balancing praise where earned and coaching where needed. My daughter really enjoys her time

I’ve been bringing my son here for about 3 or so months and him and I both love it. Sensei is great with kids and I love that not only are they learning karate, they are learning to be calm, to be respectful of others, and to take care of themselves. The ages range from 4-13 or 14 I believe. It’s really nice having kids of all ages learn to work together as a team. I’m excited for all the great things my son is going to continue learning in his karate class.

Sensei is truly a great teacher and human being. Our kids love the sessions and have really excelled in leaps and bounds in their flexibility, strength and confidence. In the beginning my oldest was apprehensive about trying something new but it has really paid off. We are very grateful and highly recommend the Japan Karate Federation to all!

My 5 year-old daughter just completed the Self-Defense and Awareness class for kids at Japan Karate Federation. In just a week, she learned valuable skills that can be applied to real life situations that you hope your child never has to encounter, but at least you know he/she has had some preparation. I was pleased with the structure of the classes, the knowledge of the instructor and how the instructor was able to convey his knowledge in a way that is easy for a child to understand and absorb. Scott demonstrated patience and focus with his approach to teaching but with an emphasis on discipline
