We teach empathy and kindness, embracing music, art and physical fitness as critical parts of education and development. My children attended CDS from the third grade through middle school. Our family is very grateful to all the wonderful teachers at CDS, too numerous to name.

Founded in 2006, Charlottesville Day School focuses on providing a well-rounded education for students ranging from early preschool to eighth grade. Combining powerful classroom experiences with music, art and physical wellness, CDS prepares its diverse student body for success in an interconnected world.

At all grade levels, teachers value creativity and play as necessary components of an ideal environment for academic achievement.
At the heart of CDS are teachers and specialists who challenge and inspire our students to learn and play in a joyful, supportive environment. Our teachers have the support and autonomy to creatively structure their classrooms in ways that ensure success for individual learners. In the event that on-campus school is suspended, CDS has developed a robust distance-learning platform.
Research shows that active engagement with music and art aids a developing brain like nothing else. CDS students are fully immersed in art, theater and musical instruction and performances. At CDS, students participate in the arts, not as optional electives, but as a core element of school. We know that the arts help students develop important life skills - including collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.
Families interested in admission to CDS are encouraged to call the school and schedule a tour. We ask that parents submit an application online so we can get to know your child and family before the tour. During the tour, parents have the opportunity to see CDS in action and meet with a CDS teacher about the school's philosophy of education, the child applying for admission, and any questions parents may have.
