Our whole curriculum is organized to serve students' developmental needs through carefully devised mixed-age classrooms. In each classroom you will find children who are in the same stage of development and share the same characteristics and needs, although they differ in age. Our beautiful 9 acre garden campus sits on top of a hill with scenic views.

Mountaintop Montessori is the oldest and only dual accredited Montessori school through 8th grade in the Charlottesville area. Our authentic Montessori practices are complimented by a rich variety of co-curricular programs and highly experienced faculty. We invite you to get to know us better. We invite you to get to know us better by taking a tour of our campus and classrooms during one of our weekly sessions for interested families.
Services
Mountaintop Montessori provides the greater Charlottesville community with an exceptional and authentic Montessori education, serving children and families from infancy through adolescence. Our campus is home to year-round programming in which children thrive through experiential learning, interactions with the natural world, and collaborative discovery.
Montessori schools follow a unique and exciting educational approach that nurtures a child's intrinsic desire to learn. Founded on the work of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), Montessori schools focus on each child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

Our classrooms are mixed-age environments designed to entice children to develop concentration while they are exploring and discovering concepts at their own pace, guided by a Montessori-credentialed teacher that is an expert in the particular age group.Montessori classrooms foster independence, organization, and problem solving skills while providing children with a solid academic foundation.
The Board of Trustees' main purpose is to ensure healthy and sound governance for Mountaintop with a focus on its long-term strength. It serves in a strategic capacity, working in concert with the Head of School for the benefit of all Mountaintop children, families, and the generations to come.

The trustees are dedicated volunteers drawn broadly from our community, including parents of current and former students, former administrators, alumni and others who bring fresh and independent perspectives to board discussions.
At Mountaintop we focus on providing a first-rate Montessori education for all of our students. While we are not a daycare center, we do offer many scheduling options to provide a consistent, nurturing environment for children whose families have busy work schedules. We offer year-round enrollment options for Toddler, Children's House, and elementary students.
CampusOur campus is a 9-acre classroom. Students' work includes gardening and maintaining our cooperative sanctuary with Audubon International and our certified wildlife habitat with the National Wildlife Federation. GreenhouseThe 850 square foot geodesic Growing Dome has beds for growing produce as well as a 2300 gallon aquaculture tank.
