Total scam this place! They don't honor the rate they book you at for one. They doubled the pricing on us and gave no reason for it. People at front desk played dumb and said they knew nothing and could do nothing. The power was out the entire night and no safety lights came on for the stairs we had to stumble down with suitcases in complete darkness!! No one was running the place it was virtually empty. Occasionally someone was wandering around but couldn't help with anything. Horrible rip off!!!! I was charged twice the price I booked!

We stayed on the historic side of the hotel. 4th floor, single king bedroom was very comfortable and clean. We had a nice view out to the street where we could see some of the beach in the distance and the Golden State Theater in the other direction. The staff that we encountered were attentive, courteous and friendly. We will definitely be back for another stay.

The room was as expected in the description when we booked. I called the day before to verify and the front desk staff could not find my reservation. Eventually they verified us but when we arrived the front desk could not inform us where to park. We figured it out and enjoyed how close the wharf was to where we were staying but both my wife and I could not sleep at all on the bed because it was so old and uncomfortable. The room served its purpose for staying overnight in Monterey but the experience left a lot to be desired and I would either pay a little more for a decent bed to sleep in or a

Terrible hotel and service. I asked the staff where to park, she said anywhere on the street. As I parked and returned, I had to wait for 30mins just for check-in on Saturday night. The staff said she is the only person on duty. I requested her to give me a quiet room, yes, of course, she gave me a room right next to the stairs. Crazy noisy and dirty room. I felt like 30 years backward. I couldn't sleep all night.

Sorry but this was probably the worst place I have stayed in over 20 years! So noisy, walls are paper thin and you can hear everything going on in the next room ..... including the TV on until 2:00 AM. Thought the location would be nice downtown but it was incredibly noisy even with closed windows and shutters. The carpet in our room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. There are much better places to stay than this dump. Don't be fooled by the on-line photos!! It doesn't look anything like the doctored images shown on various websites.

The original hotel is more than 100 years old. One of us stayed there a few decades ago and found it to be delightful. In the last decade a new extension building was added. The hotel website gives no indication of this distinction. The new facility is far less attractive. In making a reservation you may wish to inquire as to where they're going to stick you. At check in the person at the front desk was not very helpful.

We liked the location of the hotel. It is within walking distance to shops, restaurants and the old fisherman's wharf. Be aware because of covid there isn't any maid service, however clean towels and bed linen are available up on request. Also they use to have a abbreviated breakfast but now just coffee and snacks. I recommend that you check with the hotel when booking to see what amenities are available.

First off we were in the Deluxe King room, so not the "historic section". When we checked in we had to wait a bit but only because the person at the front desk was helping someone figure out a snafu with their reservation. I only observed, but it seemed like the hotel employee was going above and beyond to get things worked out for them.
When we got up there the guy was really nice. Gave us the rundown on all the rules and got us our room key quickly. We knew before getting here that the parking thing was going to be an issue. The person that checked us in gave us the tip that we

We found the hotel to be better than expected given some mixed reviews. I love the quaint historic ambiance, and the location is fantastic. This was the best value for car week, and even the parking was no trouble (within a couple of blocks and free!), knowing that none was on property. Yes it helped to have earplugs, on account of the seagulls, but we didn’t hear a thing from adjoining rooms (4th floor of historic building). Perfectly clean, comfortable, and pleasant.

Isabella at the front desk was beyond helpful. She took extra time out of her busy day (during crowded hours) to help me out and extend my stay past when I had originally booked. Notifying me when there were originally no rooms available to help make my life easier, and not have to move to a new hotel. The service here, notably Isabella, was incomparable to many of the surrounding hotels.

This hotel is perfectly placed for eateries and things to see, in Monterey. My mom and I easily walked everywhere we wanted to go.
There is no parking, so you need to park at a nearby garage. The one we parked at was $12 per entry/max per day...
We didn't have much interaction with the hotel staff, so I can't say much there.
We were in one of the newly refurbished rooms. My mom loved the fireplace and enjoyed reading on the couch nearby.
Yes, you can hear outside street noise and people in the hall, but it is an older hotel, so you should expect that.
Overall, a pleasant experience

We had a great time in this old fashioned hotel. The room is whimsical, and the furniture is all very very old fashioned and highly embellished. The TV is an old TV, but you're in Monterey get out of the room. It's in the middle of old downtown on the famous Alvarado Street. Located to some of the most popular restaurants and pubs. The jacuzzi and gym are closed for now and parking was a little awkward, but at the end of the days it was simple enough.

The staff here needs some training in hospitality/guest services. My first encounter with the front desk after doing the contactless check in online, resulted in the desk agent going over every single rule again (extra charge for pets if in a non pet room), extra charge for smoking anywhere on property, no amenities during covid, etc. Etc. Before giving me the key to my room. I kind of thought the purpose of contactless check-in and the online acknowledgement meant i could forego all this time at the desk to re-hear all the rules again.
Earlier today I asked the morning front desk person where

Once again, we need the negative 5 stars button. What can I say..... Well, the staff is about as friendly as a tax collector, and gives out about as many dirty looks. My room, in the "historic" wing, actually means "clapped-out roach motel with terrible plumbing" wing, was a small box with a couple of windows with a fantastic view of absolutely nothing and got ZERO air flow. No air conditioning. Just two windows looking at a wall and getting no air. The bathroom sink didn't drain. Ever.... The shower flooded the bathroom, the toilet was slow to flush and the TV

The Monterey Hotel was a beautiful old hotel right on the main drag in Monterey, CA. Initial parking requires the street, but afterward a quick drive around the corner to the public parking garage on Calle Principal (free evenings and then 2 hour maximum after that for a minimal fee; I paid a little over $3 for two hours) wasn't too much of a hassle. The front desk staff was nice and accommodating. We stayed in the historic portion of the hotel, which I highly recommend. There is an elevator in the refurbished part, but if you can, I recommend taking the stairs after you drop off your luggage so

The front desk personnel are rude. I was recently refused bathroom
access by their personnel stating it was not a public restroom. I explained I was not a person walking off the street but at the hotel for an appointment at Perfect Touch Spa in the front of their hotel lobby. The desk clerk responded it did not give me the right to use the restroom as the spa rents space and I was not a hotel guest. In the past, they have not been this controlling over restroom use. One would think they would be more accommodating to a business renting space from them.

My wife and I booked a historic fireplace suite for Saturday night before Valentine's Day. She specifically wanted a room with a microwave oven, mini-refrigerator, and fireplace. We booked online weeks in advance. My wife called the morning of to confirm that the reservation included the aforementioned amenities.
Pros:
The rooms are just like what is on their website. Fine wood furniture, very clean suite, remodeled bathroom. Both televisions worked. Heating worked. The mini-refrigerator kept our food and drinks cold. The fireplace worked. The bed was very comfortable.
Cons:
We arrive

Not one positive to this hotel experience.
The person at the front desk was so rude, not only to us, but to the couple in front of us as we were trying to check in. She sat on the phone talking for at least 15 minutes while we all waited to check in.
With the nastiest attitude, she complained that we hadn't checked in remotely. Then admitted they never sent us a link to check in remotely. Her final words were to blame her manager.
The elevator was having technical difficulties.
The phones don't work.
The air conditioner doesn't work.
There is no reason anyone should subject

What a great place! We came to Monterey Hotel for 4 days to explore Monterey, Carmel by the Sea, Big Sur and were amazed how perfect this location was! On top of that, it's a 5 minutes walk to the main Fisherman's Wharf pier where we had the best clam chowder! We walked everywhere, no need to drive, since the hotel is located right in a middle of the area with all the restaurants and cafes. Parking was very easy, there always were free spots to leave the car right by the hotel. The hotel itself is such a pleasure to be in: vintage, cozy, romantic. Very pleasing for the eye, since the
