It was established in 1987 by a retired dentist and entrepreneur, Ron Forlano Sr. and his son, Ken from Pennsylvania. After spending summers vacationing on the Outer Banks, dreams began to form of living here and running a small family business on the beach. Family gatherings and great food always brought our family together and what goes better with the summer and the beach but BBQ.

After several years on the road, as a musician, Ron Jr. moved to Duck to help run the family business. Duck Deli is now a third-generation family restaurant with several of Ken's and Ron Jr.'s children working. We started out with BBQ Smoked daily in-house; pork, chicken, tuna and other fish. We brought with us our special subs and cheesesteaks, salads and special sandwiches.

Great barbecue with both traditional NC mustard based sauce as well as tomato based sauce if you like that better. Friendly staff and outdoor seating area.

Nice and quaint. Staff was very friendly. There was no indoor dining for a late lunch. We ordered the meatball sob and wedding soup. The sub may have been a bit over sold, but the soup was fabulous. I would recommend for casual lunch.

This place just smells yummy when you walk in the door. I had Rock-n-Roll tacos, Wonderful!! Hubby loved his Ruben Hotdog. We even ordered a sub to go for later. Great people doing great things at Duck Deli.

I was craving a BLT like you wouldn’t believe, and reviews online said Duck Deli had the best one in Duck. I don’t know about the others, but this one was great. Got it on toasted rye. Made fast and it was delicious and the woman at the register couldn’t have been nicer: asked how my day was so far. That’s always better than a generic “how ya doin’.” The dessert counter looked tempting…next time.

So, so good. Delicious, generous salads, love the baked beans, the hush puppies are stellar and the rock and roll taco is not to be missed.
The prices are great for Duck, the online ordering platform is easy to use and convenient.

Food was great! Fries are crispy and a very worthwhile upgrade from the bags of chips. I had the Duck Buster Burger, delicious and quite filling. The slaw and bbq are different from home up north, a welcome change on vacation!

Doesnt look like much, and I drove by it many times without thinking to stop. But once I tried it, it became a Duck NC staple for me. Great food at great prices. Perfect for takeout lunch by the pool.

We visit Duck twice a year. Duck Deli is always a must. The food is delish! We had the privilege of being served, this time, by Sal. He was caring, friendly, and professional. We could tell that he appreciated his job and was happy to help. Love interacting with employees like this! SAL ROCKS!!!!

Awful experience this weekend!!! We ordered BBQ platter and the Tacos. The platter was cold and dry!! The chicken was overcooked and so dry. The Tacos horrible. Fried, cold with no taste, dry and could not chew or eat. Both dinners had been cooked way in advance and not fresh. Be careful!

This was our go to spot for lunch every day we were in OBX. A nice menu of deli and grill offerings, with staples for the kids and variety for the adults. Over the course of the week, we tried the crab cake sandwich, italian sub, Duck club and BBQ. Everything was excellent, reasonably priced, portions were huge and the food prep was amazingly fast. The woman who took orders was always friendly and helpful. Highly recommended, especially for families.

Great take out. We called and it was ready in fifteen minutes for pick up. Bulk barbecue with four types of homemade sauces, Cole slaw, baked beans, and hush puppies. All hot and yummy!!!

We were vacationing in the area recently and decided to try Duck Deli. Overall, not bad but nothing extraordinary either. My crab sandwich was ok. Hush puppies were a bit too dry. Probably would not go back if we came back to Duck for another vacation.

Very solid, HUGE smoked chicken wings that had a lot of great flavor without having to be covered in seasoning. Also, some of the nicest people in town serving everything up. Will definitely be back soon.

Duck deli was amazing!!!! we got the cheesesteak and it was epically good. the cheese and the meat and the bread were all great and it was a very filling lunch meal. a great meal here in duck, very short wait and not awful prices. they also had outdoor seating if you're into that type of thing. 5 stars quack quack from duck

The food we had was delicious! The reuben had a nice crisp and good balance of flavors. The Philly cheese steak had a nice mix of flavors and the cheese was perfectly melted throughout. The onion rings were excellent too. Nice place to eat outdoors and enjoy the breeze.

Stopped to grab a quick bite thinking the word deli would translate to fast, inexpensive, sandwiches. We were wrong. The prices were high and unexpected. The staff was nice and the food was decent. We had some trouble ordering but all the food came out as expected. We skipped the drinks to avoid paying $2.25 for a bottle of water. I know they are located on an island and pricing probably has a lot to do with the cost of getting supplies and rent/land costs, but the prices were high for us. There was an old menu picture that had much lower pricing. Took a pic of the current menu and prices.

Very good restaurant. We had done seafood, pizza and was looking for something a little different. From burgers, sub, ribs to bbq this place has it all. Everybody enjoyed their meal and said it was delicious. Their yellow mustard bbq sauce was great.

Been coming to the Outer Banks with our family and friends for quite some time and Duck Deli was always a fan favorite. I just wanted to take some time to write this to show management and the staff our gratitude for their establishment.

My brother, friend, and I were heading out tonight and got some take out cheesesteaks from DD. Being from PA and eating at a variety of cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, Duck Deli had some high expectations to live up to.
