Dear potential Student/Parent, I am just a man who wants to be able to empower ALL people to become the best possible version of themselves. I believe that the attributes one gains from training in karate are imperative in doing so. I love people, and love karate, so owning my own school was my dream.
In 2007 my family stepped up and helped me open my own dojo. I was raised in Irondequoit, met my wife here, bought my first house here, and so far I've been teaching karate here for 23 years. So that's why I named my school Irondequoit Martial Arts, to pay tribute to the town that's been so good to me.

As an important note: This shop was designed to provide an easier way for our students to make purchases and has evolved into a much bigger shop! Because of this, most of the items in our shop are in backorder status and will require approximately 1 week for us to fulfil. Following any orders you will receive a confirmation email, followed by a status email with an ETA for when your item will be ready.
We teach Isshin Ryu karate and are proud to be members of the organization founded by Grand Master Angi Uezu, the Okinawan Isshin Ryu Karate and Kobudo Association, or O.I.K.K.A. All of our instructors have devoted countless hours to their own study of Isshin Ryu and are regular students in our dojo.
The Irondequoit Martial Arts Pro Shop is our new online shop designed to take the headaches out of ordering equipment and merchandise. Designed with you in mind, we are working to eliminate long turn arounds and orders slipping through the cracks. With our new Pro Shop we have developed a much more systematic way to offer our customers the merchandise we have found to be the best selection.

IMA is absolutely fantastic. My kids and I have been studying here for over a year now. Mark and the other Sensei are welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. The kids absolutely love there time there and the personal growth I've seen in each of them from studying a martial art is wonderful. I started as a first time student in my 40s and was nervous. Everyone there (students and Sensei alike) we're welcoming and made taking something new on very enjoyable.

My three year old grandson has been taking classes twice a week. He loves it! He starts to cry when the class is over and asks me if he can sleep there. I have never seen anyone who engages children like Sensei Mark. I love the discipline and respect he instills in the kids while they are learning and having a blast! So glad I found this place!!!!

We met Sensei Mark when our son was in pre-school. We were looking for ways to offer exercise to our boy that was both challenging and varied. Mark and his school provides an excellent, safe, and fun environment that grows to match his students' skill level. Mark is excellent with the kids offering patience, training, and a great sense of humor. Five years later our son is still eager to go to karate class.
