The El Cortez is the cornerstone of Downtown an icon of classic Las Vegas. One of the last remaining family-run casinos, we're unburdened by the trappings and constraints of corporate ownership. Since 1941, we have been a part of this neighborhood, and our neighborhood is a part of us. You can see it in the smile of a bartender and hear it in the jingle of one of our classic coin slots.
El Cortez Hotel and Casino is the longest continuously-running casino in Las Vegas. Located off the strip in Fremont East Entertainment District within the historic Downtown, El Cortez is the authentic Vegas experience that you have been craving.
El Cortez first opened its doors on the corner of 6th and Fremont Streets in 1941, and was so successful that it attracted the attention of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and Meyer Lansky, who bought the property. In 1963 it went to another Vegas "family, " when Las Vegas icon Jackie Vaughn bought the El Cortez.

El Cortez offers extensive accommodations for every style and every budget. If you're looking for an old-school experience, our Vintage or Pavilion rooms are ideal. Our Tower Premium rooms were made for those that love contemporary luxury. You can bask in luxurious space and maximum comfort in our recently renovated Tower Premium Suites or indulge in an exclusive boutique experience in our Cabana Suites.
Once the residence of the legendary Jackie Gaughan, our former owner, and his wife, Bertie, this penthouse suite is the crown jewel of the El Cortez.
Unlike anything else in Las Vegas, this apartment features a massive living room with original figures handpicked by Mrs. Gaughan, an amazing dining room with immaculate white marble table, a stunning bar and lounge area with a breathtaking view of Las Vegas, and two master bedrooms and bathrooms that have to be seen to be believed.

First time in Vegas and I know I'll be back to this place. It's more classic Vegas to what the rest of downtown and the strip has to offer. They have legit coin slots too and normal minimums at the table, none of that $25+ crud like the strip. It does get kinda noisy at night and it's at the edge of where lots of homeless wander.

One of the last casinos NOT owned by a big corporation, right downtown too! The staff is ALWAYS friendly, and the drinks are extra tasty. They still have a massive coin machine section (real coins, not that paper ticket nonsense) mostly coin video poker. That's my vice, so right up my alley.
Plenty of paper ticket slots, and one kiosk of coin slots $1 machines ($2 and $3 max bets on coin slot machines)

The hotel was a great stay! It’s old school Vegas and filled with the old charm. The rooms are modern and spacious. The hotel itself is very clean, friendly staff and well taken care of. The free parking is nice and it’s close to Fremont. My only complaint would be that it doesn’t have amenities like pools, hot tubs, lots of restaurants, shops, etc. The price of the room was good and the views are nice as well.

Overall a pleasant stay. Casino has some of the cheapest table games in town. Particularly a fan of the single deck blackjack.
Casino floor feels a little old. Very popular with the local crowd. Rooms are nice-- I think they were recently updated.
If you stay here, take advantage of the massage parlour. No sketchy stuff, just a straight-up GREAT deep tissue massage. And if you dine at Siegels 1941, try their BLT.

Apartment is right down the street, it's the first casino I'm able to hit on Fremont and one of my favorites! They keep up with the demand on the newer machines and they fully remodeled their upgraded rooms! When I say they are some of the nicest rooms on Fremont, I mean it! Born and raised local so I definitely know! Legit 💯 Love El Cortez❗90% of the time I make good money here💰💰

Very good place to stay at in downtown. Rooms are cheap and nice, especially the tower premium rooms. GREAT casino if you are new to gambling with plenty of games and low minimum bets. Super friendly service at check in and restaurant. Only reason it loses a star is because service was slow and not the best location. Would give 4.5 stars if i could.

I have not stayed here yet. I wanted to see what the rooms were like and simply asked if I could.
The director of operations obliged and showed me many rooms and gave me a historical tour of the place.
So my review is only about what I saw for the rooms. Some time spent gambling there and the restaurant.
The updated and historical rooms look better than the Golden Nugget and are better priced. The golden nugget charges to have a fridge in the room. All the rooms I saw at the El Cortez had a fridge.
The new owner has spent some money updating the place.
The food at the restaurant was okay.

Really enjoyed checking this hotel and casino out. One of my favorite things was using the dollar coins slot machines. I've always wanted to use one of the old machines. I wanted to hear that clink of the coins hitting the tray. Strange, I know, but just something I always thought would be cool to check out and I'm so happy I did. The history behind the hotel is pretty intriguing as well. I'd say if you plan on going to Vegas, this is another must see.
