Formative Years Growing and Learning Center opened in 1986 in Ames with a mission to provide professional, early-childhood educational programs for children before they begin school. With the recent addition of a new campus in Davenport, we look to expand this philosophy to a new community and pledge the highest level of care and education to the children we serve.

We provide care to children 6 weeks to 5 years old at both locations, and before/after school care to age 12 and a summer day camp program for K-6 graders at Ames. Contact us today at (515) 292-3609 or enrollment@formativeyearsglc.com with questions on enrollment or for current openings in Ames. We look forward to hearing from you.

My daughter has just started going here this year! She loves it! All the teachers are amazing and really care about the children!

This daycare is terrible. The teacher did not stop kids when they were pushing and flighting. And they also have after school class. They ask the elementary school kids and toddlers in the same space together. The elementary school kids push the toddlers. The space in the daycare is small. Food served is also terrible. For example, for the breakfast, they give kids only banana and a small cup of cold milk. I won't send my kids there again.

My boys went there for the summer last year, they had a blast. They went on a variety of fun field trips all over the middle of the state. The staff was great and they took the time to pay attention to my boys individually, which is great for elementary school care.

My children have went here for a while now. I wanted a safe, clean, modern facility with great teachers that was educational. I found all of this at Formative Years! Their staff is great. All of their teachers have degrees and they really know children. They have told me so many tricks to help me at home. My oldest went through their 2 year old room and finished with their amazing preschool room. The morning preschool is free!! My newest little one started in their new baby room and I love it. I feel my children are safe and taken care of well. They really care about my children.
