Services
At Adventures Preschool, we believe that children learn by being actively engaged, by playing, and by experiencing. Social skills, emotional development and language development are our primary focus. Although we do explore "academic skills" in our program, academic skills are not our main focus. We usually incorporate such learning in the form of games, songs, art, cooking, and conversation.
Jill Strawhacker is the director and lead teacher at Adventures Preschool. She is responsible for enrolling children, curriculum planning, supporting parents and children in the classroom, and maintaining Iowa DHS child care licensing standards. Jill graduated from Iowa State University in 1994 with a degree in Teaching PreKindergarten and Kindergarten Children and in 1995 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Family Services.

Adventures has so many benefits: the parent involvement, the small class size, opportunities for creating artwork daily, occasional field trips, outdoor recreation time, an engaging classroom environment, and much more. I have really enjoyed being a helper each semester so that I can better understand how my child is learning and interacting with others. The teachers are outstanding, the snacks are healthy (and the kids get to help prepare them), and little touches such as the "Sharing Bag" are always fun for everyone. I'm really glad we chose Adventures - it's been a terrific fit for us!

Preschool here is a fresh, exciting, adventure! Children are encouraged to be independent in their actions, words and ideas. They learn to interact with peers, make and eat healthy snacks, foster a love for creativity and imagination, and embrace a sense of community. I especially love the days that I spend in the classroom and the opportunity that gives me to observe the way my son learns and interacts with his friends.
