Our philosophy is that each of us have three distinct and interconnected aspects: Body, Mind, and Spirit.

Aikido has come to mean many things to people, so it is important to clarify what aikido is to us at Spirit Aikido. There is great dispute over whether aikido is a viable martial art and self-defense system. Our primary interest is in preserving and even enhancing aikido's physical effectiveness. There are many dojos who are interested in non-martial aspects of aikido.
Aikido is often difficult for people to describe, even those who have been doing it for years. We'll start with the simple explanation first. Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, a prodigy and extraordinarily talented martial artist who studied a wide variety of martial arts including: aiki-jujutsu, judo, spear and staff fighting, and many others.
To answer the question "what type of aikido do you teach?" the direct answer is that our aikido comes from the Koichi Tohei lineage. Koichi Tohei started his aikido study in the 1950's under the founder, Morehei Ueshiba, and was considered one of his most talented students. Tohei was a primary influence to bringing aikido to the United States, through Hawaii originally.
This information is specifically for anyone who is interested in training with us, and that includes visitors. I would like to give you a good idea of what you can expect and look forward to. The best of all worlds is that you find a place to train and learn which suits your interest, and we find students who are eager to learn what we teach.
We like to keep things simple and straightforward. Many martial arts dojos do not put their pricing on their website, nor do they disclose to you costs which come in later, such things as: mandatory seminars, patches, uniforms, weapons or equipment, belt test fees, and the like. We have no extra costs or fees which you are required to pay, nor pressure you to buy anything else.
