The Jewel of India has been Hanover's favorite restaurant since 1992, family-owned, featuring traditional North Indian food. Our Sunday lunch buffet is a favorite among Dartmouth students. We are proud to be part of the Hanover community and look forward to sharing a meal with you! We thank the community for the opportunity to serve fine Indian food since 1992.
Services
Fine flour bread, stuffed with cauliflower, homemade cheese, chicken tikka, garlic and spices. The Tandoor is a pit oven made from clay and it burns with charcoal. All meats, poultry and seafood stay immersed in special marinades over a long period, then are skewered and broiled in the Tandoor. Tender pieces of chicken breast, marinated in a very mild sauce, barbecued on a skewer in the tandoor.

The Jewel of India restaurant is an okay'ish restaurant with only outdoor seating available. We went there for dinner in the month of October when the weather was around 60 degrees and it was still cold to be seated outside. They had a couple of heaters which provided warmth only to the tables surrounding them. The hand wash and restrooms were weirdly located in the second floor and we were not allowed to go through the inside of the restaurant. The staff asks us to go all the way around the restaurant and enter through the front door to access the washrooms. A couple of staffs here were not too

I love Indian food and cook it myself at home for holidays and other meals. I have eaten at this restaurant multiple times over the years. I compliment their move to the new location and back patio area (minus the loud kitchen exhaust fan).
The food is, as always, about a 5-5.5 out of 10 taste wise. It is the traditional Indian dishes, without the touch of a chef who typically utilizes fresh ingredients, spices, and the knowledge and touch to make it dynamite.
The new protocol of online ordering does not provide any warmth or personal service, but I suspect, this is caused by COVID regs.

We L❤️VE Jewel of India Restaurant!!!! Highly recommend ☺️ you won’t be disappointed!!!! Some of our favorites are the Chai tea 🍵 with milk and sugar, the chicken tiki masala and the lamb. The coconut soup is a must and we enjoy the appetizer combo platter. If you enjoy Indian cuisine, you will LOVE Jewel of India😊

If you are looking for Indian food in the Upper Valley your options are slim. This place offers the fix for those in search of the flavorful and spicy traditional dishes at a reasonable price. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating as well as takeout. Service was ok. It is located right off the beaten path in Hanover with plenty of street parking to be found.

I guess this place is ok if you are really craving Indian food and don't have a way to leave campus. But the service was reluctant, the food was not very flavorful, and for some reason the whole restaurant smells of moth balls. They do have some vegan options and were accommodating, but the Baingan Bharta did not have much of a smoky flavor, nor was there any heat at all when ordered medium. Taj E in White River is exponentially better, if you can handle not eating in. Although I would definitely take out in either case to avoid the moth ball smell.

As an Indian and having tried a lot of Indian restaurants in the US, I would say that "Jewel of India" food is pretty mediocre. I can't remember anything that stood out so I am rating the restaurant 3 stars.
I tried this restaurant 2 times but both the times nothing stood out. Hope my experience changes in the future.

Bad food and bad service.
Ordered Kashmiri chicken, they literally added something sweet stuff with some random gravy and served.
Ordered normal chicken gravy we asked with a bit spicy flavor, we were served with red chilli powder infused chicken which is not even spicy just plain hot.. there's a difference btw..
Not recommended to anyone who want to eat authentic Indian food.. trust me I cook food..
also you can check the recipe of any of the dishes by a simple google search..

A solid Indian dining place. While the restaurant isn't anything to rave about, if you're looking for Indian food in or around Hanover, this is the place to go. The food is tasty and the staff are friendly and efficient enough. The Sunday lunch buffet is a really good value if you have a decent stomach. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a good Indian meal.

Solid Indian food, particularly for the middle of nowhere or the middle of the woods in NH!
I enjoyed naan, chicken tikka, and chicken saagwala with a friend and it was warm, spicy, and yummy. The portions could be bigger, however, especially the naan.
The service was slow, it took a long time to get our check and to order. It was busy, though.

Jewel of Indian is a decent option (okay, pretty much the only option...) if you are in Hanover and are craving Indian food. I've been here about three times now, so the fact that it's been good enough for me to keep coming back definitely says something. However, this place is far from perfect, and I'd love to see a few improvements made:
-Service: The service has been very hit-or-miss. We were there last Sunday for the buffet, and after sitting down, the only communication we got was someone walking by our table and silently gesturing us to the buffet. There was no offering to

Sub-par food and even worse staff. They are probably the rudest people in Hanover I have come across. Had the craziest and worst experience with delivery once. Regular bad experiences when dining in.
EDIT: I still go there occasionally because I have no other options around me. I was asked to delete this review by the owners or stop coming to the restaurant because I shouldn't be going to a place that I have a bad review.

I was excited because the small restaurant was PACKED with a line. Usually a good sign....
When I sat down and the gentleman setting my table basically threw my silverware and napkin at me. I get your busy, but come on!
Thankfully the food was good! They had a good selection and I was happy with what I ate, although the fried cheese appetizer was a little weird(like not cooked properly weird). Lamb curry and garlic Nann were good. There was one person taking orders and she was also doing the checks, so I would say service suffered. Had to remind her that I ordered a drink at one point. Wwwwooooowwww! Indian food this good outside of a major metropolitan area? I hadn't found it ever before, until now. It puts all of the dinky Indian joints on Mass Ave in between Harvard and MIT to shame. Dartmouth, I'm not sure how good you realize you have it but this place is an absolute gem.
I was greeted by a gracious, Indian host who I also believes doubles as the chef/owner's wife. I was seated on a smaller, cozier side of the restaurant, there is a big wall that separates the two areas. The menu is expansive and a bit overwhelming, there is little left off the menu
