I do not recommend living here if you can avoid it... I understand that with apartment living you need to be able to put up with a bit of noise from your neighbors, but recently apartment management has decided to install hard wood floors in buildings that were not designed for hard wood flooring. I could literally count every single step my upstairs neighbors took. They have received countless complaints from tenants and yet they continue to install hardwood floors in the apartments that are quickly being vacated, hmmm i wonder why? Perhaps the noise isnt so bad if you get a 3rd floor apartment

We've had nothing but good experiences here over the last 7 months. Everyone is friendly and helpful, both the tenants and management. We love the easy free living coming from an old country home. The services are good and pricing extremely reasonable considering the location. It's easy apartment living in a great location at its best!

Location! In my opinion Sawmill Heights is one of the most affordable and central locations you can find in the tahoe basin. Technically within truckee boundaries, it's a short drive into town or kings beach.
The complex has a few perks that go along with your future room. There's a lookout, offering a great view of Martis Valley. A fenced in dog run, (probably the most pet friendly place in tahoe) a jungle gym, and access to a few hiking trails around Brockway pass.
Within the units you'll find clean up to date rooms. All in all Sawmill Heights is a pretty great place to live

I have lived here over a year and can't find anything bad to say about sawmill. parking is tight but the staff will work with you to get you and guests a space to park. They are always trying to make improvements to the complex... the dog park is great to have. The swing and chairs on the scenic outlook are a great place to relax. Overall, sawmill heights is one of the best deals in Tahoe. Its perfectly located between Truckee and kings beach. its got great views. it is a good price. It's dog friendly. and there is a shuttle to Northstar resort all winter long for work or skiing! I would

I would avoid this place unless you are desperate for housing in Truckee/Northstar region.
The price is relatively standard for this location ($1000-1600 depending on # rooms) and the security is a full months rent.
The tenants are a mediocre variety of pot smoking loud and annoying college kids and some well rounded families thrown in, but the lease can be a huge frustration and the management is very unhelpful and judgemental.
I stayed a full 12 months at this complex and it was generally pleasant until I tried to add a 3rd roommate to our 4 bedroom unit. When we had issues with the roommate

Just moved in here a month or two ago and I'm pretty satisfied. it's decently priced, they had apartment openings unlike many of the other complexes in truckee. Staff is nice and gets things done when you ask. I like how there's a dog park. Super dog friendly. It's about 10/15 minutes away from downtown but I'm fine with that because the drive to get there is so beautiful. Ya it could use a hot tub and more parking but I'm not stressing about it. All in all way better than the place I was living at before.

No faulty electric work or bad faucets / pipes, etc. Carpet was also completely clean and the unit didn't have any funky smells :D

Scarily awful property staff. There was actual bitterness and spite in the person who gave me a tour of the place that I got completely turned off from the place. When you rent into a big complex, you have to have a good relationship with the managers, otherwise when you have plumbing issues or payment issues, nobody's going to give a crap about your needs.
