Cool Cafe
40 years ago and decades before it became popular, Jesse Cool led a movement of preparing and serving only fresh, in-season, organic and local ingredient-driven meals. Late for the Train (1979-2004) and Flea Street (1980-present) have come to exemplify farm-to-table, New American cuisine in the Bay Area and beyond.

Flea Street has been a Silicon Valley favorite since 1980. The atmosphere is contemporary, sophisticated and inviting. The menu is a celebration of the rich Northern California food community: seafood is caught in the nearby Pacific, produce is carefully sourced from local farms, meat is grass-fed or pasture-raised to name just a few.

After a disastrous dinner experience in RH rooftop in Marin, I'm back to civility and excellence tonight. We party of three were greeted warmly at the door. They did ask for proof of vaccine and ID but everything went well without incident.

We did tried some cocktails and kicked start the dinner with some figure foods. Crab cake, brussel sprout and some spinach salad...all good. For main, my friends had the short ribs and they loved it. My black cod is a excellent dish. Fresh fish with some magical pumpkin purée and the crispy...thingie on top make a prefect dish!! Not really sure what

I love posting our open jobs on Culinary Agents! The web interface is easy to navigate to and wow - their customer service is AWESOME! Today, I mistakenly posted a job and I reached out to them to delete it, within 5 minutes, my request was attended! 5 stars!

The ambiance is great, staff is attentive and food is good. Nice place for a business dinner or a date night close to home. Menu has its ups and downs but I always find a couple of excellent things in the meal. They have gotten a bit convoluted with some of the dishes in more recent years - would avoid those that have too many ingredients.

Cozy space, but the meal itself was seriously lacking.

The bread/starter plate was a nice thought, but the bread was dry, the biscuits were soggy, and the bok choy chips were not crispy.

For my main, I ordered a modified version of the Black Cod dish. The vegetables I received were dripping with oil and lacked flavor or basic seasoning. I'll excuse the lack of flavor since I was unable to try the uni butter, kombu dashi broth, or other accompaniments that typically come with the dish. However, the only flavor that was coming through was an unappetizing fishy taste. The piece of fish was

I've been coming here for about a decade and they are better now than ever. Every single plate was absolutely perfect and delicious. We had smoked trout, sardines, spinach salad, persimmon salad, short ribs, chicken pot pie, scallops, and three desserts along with cocktails and wine. YES we darn well tried everything on the menu. We did not leave a single bite of food on any plate!! The service is impeccable and it's nice to be back inside. Flea St. is more than just a neighborhood gem, it is a true culinary powerhouse up there with Chez Panisse and Village Pub.

We've enjoyed eating at Flea Street for many years but now that they have a $50 pp non-refundable (within 48 hours) reservation deposit, we will never again. What if my kid gets sick?

Still our favorite place to dine on the Peninsula. Flea Street never fails when it comes to a menu with seasonal, local and always exquisitely prepared dishes and staff that are always there to serve you just at the right time and acoustics that make it possible to have conversation. It's like goldilocks finding everything just right!

We have been dining outside over the last year at Flea Street and this week we dined inside (proof of vaccination required), safely and socially distanced from other tables. I was reminded that Flea Street hits the note on everything that makes a dinner out

I used to love this place. Sadly, it's lost its charm and the food is just not the same. What a bummer.

Worth a visit? Yes. If you order the right thing.

Food:
(2.5/5) Fresh Bread/Biscuits w/house-grown Veggies: Just okay. Average piece of sourdough. Small soft biscuits. Not enough butter. Veggies were small but fresh. Not quite Farmer's Market level.

(4.5/5) Toast of the Moment: GOOD. Very crunchy and butter toast base. Thick & rich Ricotta. High quality Salami to offset the incredible sweet nectarines. The

The prices here have become exploitative while the service has plummeted. Wine markup is worse than I have seen even at extremely prestigious, Michelin starred institutions that can charge whatever they want. A $40 vegetarian sampler plate is priced as something very special. Well, it included a piece of toast with a slice of cheese melted on top and three other completely unmemorable sides. Tapioca for dessert runs you $14. $14 tapioca!!

And then there is the service. They automatically charge you 20% gratuity for grossly substandard service. One of the best strengths of Flea Street used to be

Flea Street has always been one of my peninsula favorites. They've expanded their outdoor setup post COVID and now even have a bar/drinking area (no food served). Tables are nicely spaced out, are well shaded from the sun, and they have heat lamps for when it gets cold. Of note: they do have dine in service (proof of vaccination required). I appreciate that they're taking all the precautions to protect their staff and customers!

I've always enjoyed their cocktails, which often feature seasonal ingredients. The drinks are generously sized and well balanced. We had a bottle of

We ate here twice in the past month. The food is always fresh, delicious and beautifully plated. They constantly change their dish based on what is seasonal, so you get to taste something different every time. Their new outdoor dining area is lovely, and I like how they setup their outdoor bar area as a barn, very creative.

I've loved Flea Street for years. Their dining room has always been quaint and the food always fresh and delicious. With Covid hitting, I imagine that it takes a tribe to serve their meals to the public via take out. We tried it on a whim one night because we were craving a "date night". Ordering was easy and online. We arranged a pick-up time, drove up, popped the trunk and they came out with our order and placed it in the trunk.

The meal itself was phenomenal. Just like dining in the restaurant. Their compostableware was made perfect for all of the sides and main to be served

Every once in a while, I realize that I haven't Yelped a place that I've eaten at MANY times. In the case of Flea Street, I hadn't even checked in during the twenty-plus years I've been going. Apologies, Jesse.

My summary: This is a consistently very good restaurant. I can't remember ever having a bad dish here, let alone a bad meal. In fact, almost every dish I've had has been excellent.

The buttermilk biscuits are crave worthy. Luckily you can buy a dozen to take home.

The short ribs come with brussels sprouts, bacon, and beets -- AND horseradish creme fraiche

I love working with the team at Culinary Agents. They are superb! Not only are they super friendly and upbeat, but they are quick to respond and really know the culinary industry. The website is easy to use, and the talent on it are of great quality. The Culinary Agents are true match makers! I've hired several awesome pastry cooks! I would recommend this as a necessary tool for everyone in the industry, especially if you are hiring staff or looking for work.

To say that Culinary Agents is user friendly is an understatement. They make the job search navigable by adding a level of convenience, clarity and transparency to the process. They are simply unmatched as a networking tool and job matching platform for the service and hospitality sectors. It's unsurprising that the restaurants and businesses they work with are of the same caliber.
From the interactions I've had with members of their staff, to the effectiveness of the services they provide, nothing I've experienced with this company has been less than stellar.
