Mineral Palace Hotel & Gaming
The beginnings of the present-day Mineral Palace extend to Deadwood's early days. In 1876 a shrewd and cunning entrepreneur named Al Swearengen arrived in rowdy Deadwood and the following year he established The Gem Theatre on the site now occupied by the Mineral Palace. It seems that the term "theatre" was loosely used, because the Gem was actually a house of prostitution.

Always packed with fortune-hunters, the Gem survived fires, floods and wild patrons to become one of Deadwood's most venerable and longest-operating entertainment establishments. Legend has it that in its prime the Gem was an immensely profitable venture, taking in at least $5,000 on most nights, and $10,000 on some.

I was somewhat surprised my room was not ready at 4:40 when checkin is listed at 3:00. Friendly staff and the building has had a total face-lift and upgrade since my last B.C. visits. There has been huge changes from the home style atmosphere of days past. The whole street is more little Vegas vs old west boom town. The world marches on I suppose. I would stay here again.

Had a wonderful stop on deadwood, but the least enjoyable 15 minutes was by far playing tables games at mineral palace with a dealer named pamm. One of the other employees there actually apologized to us. Grump/hostile attitude. Went to tin lizzie and had a blast.

The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the personal touches in the room, the thank you note, chocolates, etc. My husband had a mishap with his cellphone and immediately three hotel employees came to his aid. A+
Dinner at the Gem restaurant was very good and the service was great.

Had breakfast with friends and we had, without a doubt, the BEST waitress I've had in a long time! Professional, friendly, quick with an answer and knew exactly how to make you feel special. I feel bad that I don't know her name but she is nicely dressed, fit, beautiful light blonde hair and infectious smile. About the food... You better come with an appetite! I ordered a 3 egg omelet and there's no way it was just three.. it was HUGE! We watched neighboring tables that got omelets too and their expressions were priceless. Kudos to the Gem for a great meal!

Worst experience ever! Gets no stars. Booked July 9-14 in May. Got to the campground on July 9 and the woman that took my reservation in May only booked one night in their computer while having July 9-14 on her paperwork. Owner would not make the reservation good and wanted us to change sites everyday. Had to beg to get deposit back and then had to find a new campground in a very booked tourist area. I do not recommend this campground to anyone. It nearly ruined our vacation ad we were very far from home.

Well to be honest we walked right thru the Mineral Palace to the elevator and went upstairs to the Gem restaurant where we both had the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. Which was very good.
But the casino looked clean and comfortable with more open floor space than the casinos in Council Bluffs Iowa. And this casino smelled better too. We may go back there tomorrow.

Great stay at this hotel. Valet staff were friendly, efficient, and ready to help when needed. Check-in was fast and professional with apologies for the disruption in hallways due to renovation, but we had no problems with the halls. Room was very clean and comfy and spacious. Enjoyed the little outside patio area for relaxing and drinks. Would stay again.

Didn't stay at the hotel, but spent some time in the casino and at the bar. The staff is outstanding - very warm and friendly and hospitable. The manager, Phillip, is an absolute gentleman and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Hands down the friendliest place in downtown Deadwood. Will be returning frequently.
