Had a great stay and it is a pretty nice place to be at while at the OBX. It is right there on the beach, you don't have to walk far. And private beach access. Which is awesome. The breakfast in the mornings was okay. Had a wide variety. Friendly service from hotel staff. We only stayed one night and it was fine here, sometimes those places are hard to find. The indoor pool was super nice. There are a few things that could have been better overall. One of the coffee cups in our room with the coffee machine had been opened and had dust and hair inside. I mean, I threw it away and went on with life

Staff was very friendly. Ample parking near room. Well lit lot.
Cons: Had to ask to make up room on first day and was told staff had gone at noon. They did however get it done. The following day, it wasn't done at all. The other unfortunate thing was. I stayed on the second floor near the office. I had to kill 5 small roaches between the first and second evenings stay. I'm not sure as to why or if they know there is an issue.
I hope this information helps correct the problem. It's a very nice property and things happen I suppose.

We have spent several vacations there and we couldn't be happier. The staff are courteous and very good at what they do. The accommodations are quite nice whether a regular room or a suite with full kitchen and dinning area, a nice continental breakfast, both indoor and outdoor pools, private beach access and a nice pavilion atop the dunes. It's our go to place when we're at the Outer Banks.

Nice spot on the side of the dunes, very friendly staff. Good sized bathroom, although it could have used a little more cleaning, especially the floor, there were hairs (upon check in) that were not cleaned up from previous guest. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was OK, no milk for 2 days, dry cereal sucks. Danishes were always empty, so was the bagel tray. Loved the outdoor shower for rinsing the sand off before going into room. Pathway lights did not work on the walkway to & from the oceanfront at night.

Roaches! We had two separate rooms, one near the office and the other closet to the beach. Both rooms had roaches. We informed the front desk in the morning and their response was, “well, what do you expect me to do about it! We could spray, but what do want me to do?” There was also crumbs and dirt all around the perimeter of the room and against the beds where the vacuum doesn’t get. Other than that the hotel had a great location and good access to the beach, but at $270/night per room, the poor cleanliness and the roaches are a no go!

This was our second stay over the last few years and we love it. Our room is always clean and ready each day. The included breakfast is great as it has something for everyone: coffee, eggs, pastries, juices, waffles, etc. The location is superb as we are just a few short minutes to the beach. The new mat that extends from the motel to the start of the beach is great. No more trudging uphill through the sand from the start of the motel. It's the little things that can make life easier. Staff is always friendly and professional. Thank you.

It’s better than a Holiday Inn. I think it’s overpriced and needs upgrading. Fridge has rust on outside front of it and the shower head is rusty ands needs replacement. Don’t vacuums come with attachments. U… can see where vacuum stops and dirt begins the whole perimeter of carpet. I recommend but I won’t be bck. 409$ for 2 nights I at least want it clean.

This place is amazing! We had a really bad experience yesterday at another hotel, rebooked with this hotel and was very pleasantly surprised! From the rebook experience, to the early room availability, to the… excellent customer service at checkin, this hotel has been nothing but amazing! Out bed is comfortable, the pools are open and warm, the beach is beautiful and I can't speak highly enough about the excellent customer service! We already plan to come back with our family at the end of the summer!

We stayed here for one night on a weekend get-a-way. All in all, it's not a bad place to stay. The room we had was a room by the parking lot on the first floor, 2 queen beds. The room was very nicely furnished looks newly updated. The ONLY complaints we had are very minor, but nonetheless, worth mentioning.
The Hotel is obviously an older facility - but very well kept. The room walls are VERY thin and not well insulated. We could hear when the phone rang and muffled conversations in the room next to ours. We could also hear footsteps from the room above ours. The shower was hot, but again

The hotel is okay. It's definitely been tweaked, and worked on throughout its times on the OBX. The reason for my score is because of the comfort, and price. The room had plenty of issues. You had to practically run the air conditioner constantly or it would be room would be humid within minutes. It's a great location.
The breakfast was also very good.

Another delightful vacation at Shutters. One thing I noticed is how clean the staff keeps this place. Being by the beach requires constant glass cleaning, and there on it every day. There's security cameras in every corner so obviously security is a priority and we really appreciate it. The breakfast cafe is such a cool perk: complimentary bacon and sausage, each on alternating days; do-it-yourself waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage gravy, bagels and cream cheese, English muffins, yogurt, coffee and so much more every morning, THANK YOU. The outdoor pool is lovely during the day, and

We stayed here for two nights after hurricane dorian hit the Outer Banks while we waited to get into our village.
I was a bit skeptical about staying at a "two star" hotel for sub $100 per night, but I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Front desk, lounge and breakfast area were very clean. I got a "dune view" room, which means oceanfront, ground floor. We litterly walked out the door from our room, to the walkway and less than 100ft from the beach.
Our room was a standard 2 queen room. It was a little on the small

Disappointing.
Staff: Friendly, but not accommodating.
Room: MAJOR improvement is needed. See photos
The beds are very uncomfortable and feels hard. There is a funky smell in the room. Carpet is messed up.
Dunes view... literally the dune is blocking my view, not overlooking it, but actually stayed directly in front of it.
Bathroom: Disappointing. Not pleasing to the eye. The faucet is broken, visible rust in the tub.
Internet: Poor connection
Cellular signal from the dunes view, NO SERVICE.
Not happy.
Beach is accessible, indoor and outdoor pool available.

We stayed at Shutters for a night on my boyfriends birthday in Dec. we had to check in late due to arrival but they where so helpful and kind. It was a great check in. The room was so nice and we had everything we needed. The room was facing the beach so it was great to hear the water and have easy access to the beach. The hotel is located around food and great spots to check out. Plan on coming back during the summer if I can get a room at a great rate. The breakfast area in the lobby is so awesome. Great options for ppl and it's amazing ppl still offer this for their guest. I've stayed

I purchased this hotel stay on Groupon. This place was much more than I expected for the price unpaid. It was one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. Hats off to the cleaning crew. The office staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was plenty big for myself and my 3 children. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great stay!

We spend a couple a nights in room 115. The room was okay, carpet smelled aweful, coffee maker was broke and at night we could hear people from 3 sides talking and kids running around till 11pm above us, because walls are so thin and not insulated.
Next time we would book the room above us, because we loved the location. Bring some air freshener and a water cooker just in case

So when I write reviews for hotels, I'm rating based on my overall experience, not just the actual hotel room so keep that in mind. This was my first time in Outer Banks and overall I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It isn't the Marriott but for a beach front hotel, it was pretty great.
As soon as I arrived I was greeted by Gretta at the front and she was so incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had no problem checking in and was given my room card. We stayed in the Tower building which is their newer building. It's pricer but based on the pictures I saw on their website, the

We, family of 4 - 2 adults 2 kids, had a nice time at Shutters on the Banks hotel in Kill Devil Hills, NC. The room wasn't too terribly but but it was enough for two nights. Next time I'll have to get something bigger. The great perk was direct access to the beach. Just a short walking distance away from the hotel you can enjoy the private beach. We absolutely appreciated that very much. The complimentary breakfast tasted well.
Just short distance away is a really good pizza place (Sal's) and Thai food.

I stayed here for our mini-moon and we had a lovely time!
We stayed in an Ocean view junior suite in tower building all the way on the end/corner and it was lovely. The room was large and had a tv for both the bedroom and the living room area. The bed was comfy and we didn't hear a lot of noise or other disturbances.
The sunrise view was great and you could hear the ocean. The balcony provides a great view and location for relaxing. Beach access was so convenient and the beach was really good quality

Nope won't be back -
Front desk lied to us and judged me thinking I booked on Expedia I didn't I used my chase sapphire preferred members only card
It's not a great location I used for my points and for rooms for free and you know what it shows -
FYI there is a newer side to this so if you use expeida make sure you pay for ocean view bc they will not upgrade you especially if you have little kids i noticed all the kids w families are on the crapper side and all the "couples are on the newer side " aka older adults so unless you need an elevator day for age or disability

Thank you for an excellent place to stay for our first family beach vacation! We have stayed here twice.
