A lovely little French bistro nestled in a residential neighborhood in South Pasadena. Parking is extremely easy as there is plenty of street parking available without meters or permits in this part of town. It’s a small place, but done well in that the tables are not too close together and they provide indoor and outdoor dining. Our server Fabienne was very polite and attentive, she did a great job.
I love bistros and go them often so I came in already knowing what I wanted to get, but as usual was swayed by the chef’s special for my entree. I started off with the French Onion Soup and it

I ordered the duck and asked if I could have asparagus instead of green beans as I am allergic to legumes. They said that they could do it, but gave me green beans. I told them that I could now no longer eat the duck that was sitting on top of the green beans and they ASSURED ME that they would remake the whole plate. They did not. Not only was the roof of my mouth itching and covered in hives by the time I left, the duck itself was an overcooked disaster. Next door to garbage. They served me next door to garbage food. No apologies. The whole staff, except our waitress seemed to know what was going

I truly enjoyed this place.
Located in the very nice area of south Pasadena, le Bistro de la Gare offers some great French food, alongside an fairly exhaustive and admirable selection of wine. The service was on point (I do not remember our server's name but she was very kind and helpful) and the table setting outside offers a nice and relaxed environment in this season.
The chef came out of the kitchen to greet guests and make sure the food was alright, per French tradition, which made me feel even closer to home. :)

Charming French bistro near the train station, like their name bistro de la gare, menu is a mixture of French and Italian dishes, appetizer chicken mousse is delicious, main course were a little but underwhelmed, presentation is lacking for dish over $30. Spotty service even the restaurant is not too busy on Friday night. Overall it was a 4 star dinning experience.

Great place and very good food. Service is outstanding...and you know how I can be when service doesn’t match the food. This time was perfect... try appetizers from a-z they are all that good. I had the Lamb shanks for my main and it was amazing it comes with very tasty mashed potatoes... yummy! I let you enjoy the big selection of wine... I had the Malbec which paired very well with my appetizers. Enjoy your visit.

The service and ambiance of the restaurant were very nice, however, the entrees my wife and I had should have been sent back. My sparse lamb shank was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and tasteless. My wife's boeuf bourguignon was dry and tough and she chose not to eat the beef. The menu is rather expensive but the entrees did not warrant such prices. We went with friends who recommended the restaurant but we will never go back. On a positive note, the frisse with egg and lardons (bacon) salad was excellent.
