Yoga Mayu
San Francisco yoga studio founded in December of 2008, Yoga Mayu is known for being a down to earth yoga studio. Yoga Mayu is predominantly a Vinyasa yoga studio. Vinyasa is a term that covers a broad range of yoga styles; vinyasa at Yoga Mayu is predominantly drawn from the Ashtanga and Hatha traditions.

The word Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement". This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. Our mission is to provide a genuine and sustainable yoga practice that evolves the physical and emotional health of our students.
Services
Join Gizella as we dive into the hips and hamstrings with a series of poses designed to gently release the stiffness in the lower body. This workshop will delve deeply into opening the hip area. Practice starts with a mindful flow to warm up the body, then moves into a series of hip openers where we will spend time breaking down and exploring the deeper postures.
After a long wait and setting up a new location we are finally ready to offer in person classes in our new studio. You will need to show proof of vaccination to enter the studio. Bring your own mat. For the time being we will not offer mat rental but we do offer affordable yoga mats for sale. We do have yoga blankets and blocks for use.

I've loved Gisella's classes since the old days on Harrison Street. Now Yoga Mayu lives on in a lovely studio on Potrero Hill. (Easy parking & mere feet to the 55 bus stop.) Yoga Mayu has always been known for the quality of its teachers. Gisella herself may well be my favorite teacher in my 20+ (...on and off....) years of practice. There's a focus to her classes that's very compelling. And her adjustments are magic--it's as if you can feel the proper alignment in her fingertips. Her classes are welcoming and suited to all levels.

If you want to learn yoga the correct way, go to Brenna's 101 classes. She is such a good teacher who explains everything in an excellent way. I thought I had done yoga before, turns out I pretty much didn't know what I was doing.
The studio in it's self is a small, personal, welcoming place. I love the classes here :)

My Hatha classes with Karin have been amazing for me. She is an empathetic and all around fantastic teacher. Gives each student personal attention and instruction to help us grow. Highly recommend!

I took 7:30 am class with Mary. Overall, I did not gain quality practice and do not recommend this studio, especially the beginner students who are not familiar with yoga.
Still, there are some positive elements that the studio offers. So I will first share what I appreciated about the studio, then move on to the points on what made my experience here not so fulfilling.
What I appreciated about the studio
- The studio is spacious and beautiful.
- The location of the studio is at a convenient spots with street parking.
- They offer student discount drop in price ($17)
What they can improve

This is a great little yoga studio. I tried my first class today via Classpass and I felt calm instantly walking into the candle lit studio, plus refreshed walking out.

You need to bring your own mat and towel, but they have cubbies, blocks, and blankets available in the storage area towards the back.

My 4pm class only had 5 people in it. But it was great because Kathyrn, the fabulous instructor, was able to give personalized adjustments.

Highly recommended :)

Hi Gizella and YogaMayu staff,

I've been wanting to express my heartfelt appreciation, and let you all know how much I enjoy and benefit from my yoga practice in your studio. From the moment I walk into YogaMayu I feel warmly welcomed by teachers who know my name and remember me even when I only see them occasionally. I love that each instructor has their own style, music, and strengths that they bring to their classes, yet I know that I will always leave feeling stronger, calmer, and more centered at the end of every class. The studio is clean and simple, with mindfully chosen touches like

Yoga Mayu is where my love affair with yoga first began, almost six years ago at their previous location on Harrison St. I am so happy to be able to continue my practice at this studio, which is clean and comfortable, pleasant and unpretentious. Each instructor has their own unique and authentic style without the gimmicks and distractions of other studios. All the teachers are wonderful and kind. I especially enjoy taking classes with Gizella, Jody, Faern, Laura, and Karin.

Thanks to Yoga Mayu, I have learned a lot about alignment, breathing, and the restorative effects of yoga. I'm also

Great Yoga studio and all the teachers are fantastic, but classes are usually super crowded for a small space. We have not enough space to move and air is quickly saturated which is not good condition for yoga practice

My new favorite neighborhood yoga spot! I just discovered this place, which is a cozy but bright spot tucked away on 24th St., just past all the craziness. The studio is small but clean and inviting, and I really enjoyed the class I took, "Mellow Flow," which is sort of a combination between vinyasa and restorative (perfect for my still-recovering knees). I'll definitely be back!

Excellent teachers. Small neighborhood studio, it's basically just one pretty spacious yoga room and a tiny lobby :)

I think it deserves a 5 star. The first ever yoga place I have ever tried in SF, all the teachers are super nice and skillful. Brenna is my favorite she has so positive energy. The class is small which is good for me as yoga beginner.

I've been meaning to update my review for a while now. Jody's vinyasa class is awesome! My friend and try to go regularly, at least once a week. It's hard work, but well worth the effort :) It definitely gets busy though since it's such a popular class, so be prepared for that. It also helps to have a block and maybe a blanket or strap handy

Every time I come to this location they have credit card issues and the staff is not friendly. The small space isn't that great either with low ceilings. They show no effort to help with check-in and don't seem like they care that you make the effort to be there. These incidents never happen to me, except here, and I use MindBody at least once a day to four times week. Suggest YogaTree or Yogaworks, regardless.

I accompanied my sister to a pre-natal yoga class, despite the fact that I am not in the family way. The class was nicely paced, and while being fairly easy, seemed to offer a good balance of stretch and strength.

I'm planning on returning to check out the lunch time flow on Fridays, so I will update this review if/when I take additional classes!

I will say that the yoga mat that I rented from them ($1 extra) was quite thin. I had to have a folded up blanket under my knees to prevent discomfort.

Upgrading to a 5 since it's among the better studios in SF. The instructors are solid and knowledgeable. Studio space is clean and well laid out. There's cubbies to store your shoes in the front and a back room with supplies and to tuck away valuables. Roomy practice area but generally smaller class sizes. For days when I forget or don't feel like lugging it around, the mat rental and towel rental prices are super reasonable at only $1.

The vibe is non judgmental and chill. There's mix between a handful of regulars who seem relatively dedicated and people casually trying out

I love this studio. It is clean, inviting, and safe. I especially love how there is a cubby in the front for shoes and one in the back --away from foot traffic-- to leave your personal belongings.

Brenna is a excellent teacher! I have been taking classes with her for a few weeks. She teaches a class that makes sense to my body and feels safe. Brenna knows how to pace class as well to keep everyone engaged in the movement and explains how to modify the pose for various levels. I would recommend this class to anyone new to or experienced with yoga.

I started going here just over a month ago shortly after they opened their Noe Valley studio. This studio is just adorable. Between the quaint location in Noe Valley to the relaxing environment inside, I feel exactly where I should be when practicing. The floor is padded, so going into inversions or arm balances feels a little less scary than on a hardwood floor.

I've taken class from a handful of teachers here, but my favorites are Katie Cosgrove and Traci Burleigh. I take class with Katie almost every Saturday mornings (great way to start my weekend). She's intense while also

Yoga Mayu is an amazing sanctuary. The teachers, students, space and energy is down to earth, unpretentious, and open, with the focus on the yoga practice and its physical, mental, and emotional benefits.
I love the morning classes. The early morning boot camp was a game-changer for me - it allowed me to be more focused during my day and deepened my practice and commitment to self-care.
Much gratitude to the teachers whose guidance has helped me both on and off the mat.
