Forty million homes across the nation have private water supply systems, or wells. Of the homes currently being built in the U.S. today, roughly one quarter will depend on well water. Rain and snow that seeps into the earth is called ground water. Ninety-seven percent of the world's fresh water supply is ground water that lies below the earth's surface.
There are very few, if any, components as part of a residential property that can cost more to replace or repair than a private on-site sewage disposal system. You want to take as much caution as possible when purchasing a home that has one. Once you own one, you want to care for it properly.

A septic system consists of a holding tank where bacteria break down the organic material and a distribution box which allows the liquid coming out of the tank to get distributed equally throughout the drainage system.A drainage system can be a " dry well, " a "leaching field" a "galley", or "TP" which dissipates the relatively clean liquid coming from the tank into the soils around the drainage system.
Many years ago, The American Society of Home Inspectors polled its members to determine what the major problem areas were in a home. Without a doubt, water penetration was the number one deteriorating factor in all homes. This is water penetration of all kinds; roof leaks, plumbing leaks, gutter leaks, condensation, water seeping through the foundation area, etc.
Steam systems have been around for a long time. Steam heating systems tend to be slower to respond than other types, require more maintenance and are more temperamental. Consequently most steam systems have been replaced by other types. However, we still see steam heat in about 2% to 3% of the homes we inspect.
Prior to the 1970's, homes had approximately 4 air changes per hour. This meant that the air in our homes was cleaner than our modern day, airtight homes, which can have as little as 1 air change every 4 hours, or less. In 1973 the oil embargo occurred and the cost of energy started to escalate. There was no worldwide shortage of petroleum products.

Dave Harter has helped us with maintenance and improvement projects at our home since we moved in 14 years ago. We are always pleased with Dave's thoroughness and quality workmanship. Dave does a great job of diagnosing issues with our home, explaining in easy-to-understand language what is the problem and the best solution. He also is always looking out for things that might be a problem down the road, which helps us plan for future expenses and prevent big repair bills. Dave is extremely responsive when we call and always figures out a way to help us if there is an emergency. We cannot recommend

Res-I-Tec is one of the best home inspection companies I've ever dealt with.
Joe did a fabulous job thoroughly inspecting the condo I'm buying, and not only gave me great confidence in the property itself, but also had valuable tips on how to improve efficiency of the gas furnace, hot water boiler and air conditioning unit.
The turnaround for the inspection and radon reports was lightning speed fast, i.e. same day, and he even gave me a discount because the inspection was so straightforward and smooth.
Don't look any further for a home inspector in the area - you can't find

Simply stated one of the best home inspectors in the country is available in the CT, NY, NJ area. I found this home inspection company while reading "The Complete Book of Home Inspections" by Norman Becker. This is one of the most helpful and complete home inspections. I walked away very comfortable with the home we had. Also very confident that every detail of the home was reviewed. It was a great experience from the first phone call through the visit, and summary email.

A great resource I would use again.

They spent so much time looking for small issues they overlooked the big stuff that i found and ended up pointed them out to them. They also missed some major foundation damage.
