People without health insurance, generally, had to pay much more for their services making access to medical care, particularly quality medical care, much more difficult.
Frequently, the uninsured were told, "You have to pay $100 down (or more) and we'll bill you for the rest", often leaving the patient with a surprise bill of a couple hundred, up to several thousand dollars that would come in the mail a few weeks later. He saw the devastation that those bills caused in the lives of people and the loss of control that the people felt.

SuniRobert was raised in Orem, Utah, and graduated from Mountain View High School. Upon graduation, Robert became a commissioned officer in the Nurse Corps of the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he worked in several areas as a staff and charge nurse, including Maternal-Child, General Surgery, Labor & Delivery, and Nursery in San Diego, California, and Yokosuka, Japan.
