I agree with some of the 1-star review on yelp regarding this Inn's shady practices. We found a deal via #Travelzoo for Sunset Inn Pacific Grove. I called the hotel to book the date we wanted and the property manager, Rishi did not want to honor the voucher as there were no rooms available on the date we wanted (red flag #1); so I cancelled my voucher with Travelzoo. My husband found a better deal through a 3rd party travel agent and the date we originally wanted was still available! (surprise! red flag #2), so we booked a room. We did actually use a travel zoo voucher here and had no problem booking the property and we had a very nice room and we're greeted very warmly and we will definitely be back!
It is a great location you can walk down to Pacific grove Golf course Grill for a bite to eat or to golf and then further down is the beautiful ocean.

Had a wonderful (and last minute) stay here at Sunset Inn! Our Receptionist Bhavi was really welcoming and helpful!!! He was efficient, kind, and very knowledgeable about how to make sure we get the best rates for future stays in the area.
Felt really at ease that this was the right place to stay, among the many options in Monterey!

This has been our go-to getaway spot for almost 20 years. Cozy, economical, and within walking distance to some of the most beautiful coastline in the state, the Sunset Inn is a gem. Our room has a switch-operated fireplace, mini fridge (the biggest one I've ever seen in a hotel), microwave, and a Keurig. Complimentary breakfast is served every morning.

Nice place with cozy rooms with a fireplace. It's a little dated, but very clean. The yard is beautifully landscaped. There's a firepit too. The owner was very nice. When we checked in he gave me the master key so I could pick which room I wanted between the two that were available. Best of all the price was very reasonable. I would definitely stay here again.

We arrived later than anticipated and were wiped out check-in was quick and we were in our cottage in no time. The room was clean and warm and the fireplace and jetted tub were welcome surprises. The bed was a little too firm for my tastes but in no way was a deal breaker. We both woke up well rested and ready to face the world. Will definitely be returning. Great hosts and outstanding service.

Clean facility with nice owners. They gave us flowers, cheese and crackers for our celebration. Who does this extra touch? I wouldn't recommend a room that has a shared locked door with the next room. Doors are thin and you can hear conversations and couples enjoying each other in the night. Haha. That's what I call free Showtime.

Very upset as this hotel didn't refund us for the 2 rooms we booked thru Expedia.
We cancelled at 5:30 pm on the 25th.
Our booking was for 27th.
We cancelled almost 46 hours beforehand.
Expedia called this hotel and they refused to refund our $416. The Expedia rep was apologetic as he too felt the hotel policy was unreasonable and tacky.
Will never be staying at this hotel. They lost all future business from us and we are frequent travelers to the Monterey area.
Very unfair policy.

Room wasn't ready at 3. Had to wait an additional. 30 minutes. Also had ants in our room which we had to spray ant spray inside our room. Floors were dirty. Didn't even offer any sort of refund, just offered 30% off the next visit lol The only reason I'm giving 3 stars and not 1 is because Rishi was a very sincere man and cared about trying to make us as comfortable as possible.

We found a jewel on this getaway, and we have stayed here before, but it's been awhile. Very well kept landscape and grounds. We were greeted by our friendly and grateful host, Rishi, in the office who wanted us to feel like family and invited us to check back with any questions. Fabulous location, near golf, ocean, restaurants, shopping, etc. our room was CLEAN, down to the coffee maker, handles, tables, and even the remote and we noticed the front door threshold was spotless. Sunset Inn is a beautiful, rustic place to stay within a couple of blocks from the beach. Rishi helped us in so many ways. We miscalculated our dates when we scheduled and Rishi was able to make it right even though it was Monterey Car Week and every hotel, motel, and inn had minimum vacancy. He, and all the staff, truly treated us as family. We highly recommend staying at Sunset Inn and plan to visit again soon.

Such a wonderful experience! Very thoughtful greeting and assistance finding a restaurant that was open late. There was a bottle of wine in my room for me, and the room was wonderful. I decided on this trip not to stay in big chains to get a feel for local areas and was a bit hesitant about that. Sunset Inn proved why that was a great decision! I'd stay here again 100 times over.

Best place ever. Service is impeccable, rooms are clean and very comfy. Close to so many amazing sites and food. Canary Row, lighthouse, golf, hikes, Lovers Point, Pebble Beach, Carmel, 17 mile drive and so many more. Great food of all kinds within 5-10 minute drive. The best part is the affordability. My sister and husband stayed at another resort, right on the beach and our room was better, cleaner and 1/2 the price. We absolutely loved it here. The fire pit was the best part outside.

This little hotel is great! If you are looking for somewhere that is moderately priced, super comfortable and has great customer service; this is your place. We were in town for two nights and just needed somewhere to rest our heads in between going to Big Sir, exploring downtown Monterey and going to dinner. The room was clean, the best was comfortable, and to my surprise; they even had a good selection of TV channels offered. This was one of the most charming hotels I have ever stayed at. It was clean, comfortable and had tons of personal touches. Breakfast was delicious and the firepit was beautiful, and the service was wonderful. It's a short walk to Asilomar Beach trails, 2 minute drive to shop's and restaurants, 5 minute drive to Monterey Bay aquarium, pretty much the perfect getaway! We will be returning for sure!

My husband and I stayed here for a week to celebrate our anniversary. Rishi and the crew here are amazing! They make you feel so welcomed and like family. They even brought us a fruit plate, a bottle of wine and some roses to help us celebrate. We could of scored a better place to stay! A 5 min walk to the beach, beautiful sunsets right out side your room, couldn't be more relaxing!

We enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean and nice. We had the a king size deluxe room with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub. The shower head leaked a lot when you were filling the tub. There was a wash cloth wrapped around the shower head from the previous guest. Housecleaning didn't look up and see it. The shower head was pretty high up. The tub is big enough for two. I told them about the leak hopefully they'll fix it.
The bed was very comfortable. Two of the windows didn't close. It was very quite and peaceful. When you were outside you could hear the ocean.

I stayed here for my anniversary weekend I couldn't have been happier! They accommodated us in every possible way! We had a room with a deck and if you looked beyond the trees you could see the water which I wasn't expecting to be able to see we had a beautiful jacuzzi tub and a cozy fireplace. We stayed here for a night and it was lovely! The manager is so friendly, he checked us in quickly and efficiently and was really helpful with the heating in the room (we couldn't figure it out as we have an ancient thermostat and theirs are really modern :)
The wall fireplaces are super cosy, and the bathroom decor is modern and stylish. The location itself is great, being only a short walk from the beach, and everything was spotlessly clean. Definitely recommend! :)

Wow! The biggest headache of my life was to book a room with a prepaid voucher from travelzoo. Don't make the mistake I did. The manager is very unprofessional and made me wait several days for a call back and then said the rates on a date are higher than what I paid. I pod for a weekend rate (Friday- Saturday) and he's always pushing me to come on a weekday. We have jobs and why would I come on a weekday if I paid for a weekend!!! He's trying to profit on both ends. I paid a premium for weekend and he's denying me that so he can give my room to another sucker for higher rate

What a quaint place to stay! Upon arrival you can see this little place is loved and cared for by the owners. We stood in room #100 which is closest to the front. The room is on the smallish side but it didn't interfere with our stay. It was clean, cozy, comfortable, and it felt safe there. I did notice the body wash was low so I asked for room service to fill it up. I didn't realize the shampoo was also low but found out while showering the next morning. Luckily, I brought my own.
