Services
Keystone Montessori School grew out of a small program that started in 1981 and located in the Sycamore Church on Navellier Street in El Cerrito. It was a 'morning only' program with 12 students and was called "Cerrito Vista Montessori" because it was located close to Cerrito Vista Park. In 1995, Keystone moved to the property at 6639 Blake Street into a new childcare facility built by Owner.
She believed that each child is born with a unique potential to be revealed, rather than as a "blank slate" waiting to be written upon. 3. Continually adapting the environment in order that the child may fulfill his greatest potential- physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The Montessori method is always up-to-date and dynamic because observation and the meeting of needs is continual and specific for each child.
The Montessori Method provides the key growth elements for children to develop a strong sense of self, ability to connect with others, and essential life skills. The child gains a sense of community and caring and trust in the daily routine delighting in the group participation and having FUN! The child is always treated with respect and allowed to be as independent in the environment as is safe.
The Sandpiper classroom is our toddler class. All of the amenities are child sized: the toilet, tables, and chairs are all at the child's level. The children all learn to be independent- to wash their hands, collect and put away their belongings and work, and use the potty. The Fantasy/Dramatic play area is where the children learn social skills.
The age ranges in the Blue Heron classroom and the Snowy Egret classroom allows the younger children to have role models and gives the older children an opportunity to reinforce their own knowledge by helping the younger children. A wide variety of art techniques and mediums are introduced to the children so that they can develop their own artistic expressions.

Report
Keystone Montessori School has been GREAT for our 2-year-old! After Covid shut down our other daycare, we wanted to try Keystone because it was much closer to home. Our daughter was SO glad to go back to school after the long break. We worried that she would need time adjusting to the new place and the new kids. The staff at Montessori facilitated the transition and it went EVEN BETTER than we could have hoped. Since then she has learned MANY new songs and skills. She teaches us the continents and talks about the other kids in her class. Recently, she started holding a crayon correctly, which has
