Our dojo was formed in 2012 as a group of Aikido instructors wishing to train together and offer Aikido classes for the Central Coast of California. Aikido Central Coast is located in San Luis Obispo and draws students from Pismo Beach, Atascadero, Morro Bay, and Paso Robles. We offer traditional training whereby the instructor usually demonstrates principle-based techniques and students then practice together under the instructor's supervision.
Through rigorous training, Aikido students gain confidence and evolve in their proficiency of techniques and appreciation of Aikido principles. Weapons training with the bokken (wooden training sword), the jo (straight staff), and tanto (wooden knife) is incorporated into the classes. The weapons practice fosters improved posture, focus, and execution of non-weapons Aikido movements.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba who is known as "O-Sensei", or "great teacher." As a young man, he was considered a master of sword arts and jiu jitsu. Over time, he modified existing techniques and principles of other arts into what became Aikido. Aikido literally means "the way of harmonious energy."
