My experience with Costley and Co hasn't been terrible, but I would recommend looking elsewhere to rent your home. I have rented a home that was managed by Costley and Co for almost two years. In that time, maintenance requests have been responded to in a timely fashion, though most repairs were fairly cheap and sometimes ineffective (gluing a toilet seat down instead of replacing the plastic nut and bolt). I was charged for one maintenance request (broken garbage disposal, $72) though my lease didn’t outline who was responsible for certain repairs.

I had a really good experience with Costley & Company. The two times that I had significant issues with my place, maintenance was there right away to provide support. In a city with a number of questionable landlords and property management companies, Costley & Company were always great during my 18 months renting with them.

I have been very impressed with the professionalism and responsiveness of Costley & Co. From my initial contact to the final inspection following my move out I could count on them to treat me fairly. Maintenance requests were always handled promptly and resolved to my satisfaction. I'd trust them again.

You will not believe what this company did to our family. We drove two hours to see a home and fall in love with.... when we left we agreed that we wanted the home and would follow up with questions and app. Once we got back home (2 hour drive back) they were already closed. THE VERY next morning when they opened at 9 I called to clear up one last question and prepare to do app/ verbally set up move in date they told us they will not accept our application & that the owner was going with a previous applicant!! They DID NOT tell us there was anyone else involved at all and made it seem as though

Renting from this company will be a “Costley” mistake. They took over my lease from another company three months after I moved in. I had to sublease early because I moved out of the area. Not only was I charged to leave a month early. They then kept my last month’s rent also. My rent was never late and my full security deposit was returned. I left the place immaculate. The office staff is rude and refused to explain why they would not refund my last months rent. Learn from my mistake! Avoid this company!!!

I am coming up on the end of my one year lease with Costley. It can be hard to judge a place off of google reviews alone (people only leave a comment when they have a problem). Thus, I think it is best to see when things do go wrong if they are handled well and in a timely manner.
All of our maintenance requests have always been answered quickly, and our communication with the office has been fast too. Our particular location's rent was a pretty good deal for the area and in walking distance to campus.
Since I have not concluded my lease yet, I will update this review after the moveout and checkout

Highly recommend renting from Costley and Company. The staff are very easy to talk to and very good with communicating. They are also very patient and understanding! They are also very helpful if you don't understand something regarding the application or lease. They are quick with maintenance fixes, i.e. our fridge didn't smell great and wasn't getting very cold, after we let them know they had a new fridge for us before the school year started!

My wife and I were very pleased. We lived in a very nice home managed by Costley for just over a year and were very impressed with how quickly service requests were dealt with. Normally within 48 hours the problem was addressed/resolved. I will admit, I was a bit nervous after reading many negative reviews concerning getting deposits back etc. It is my conclusion that many people just do not know how to clean or take care of the place they are living in just because it is a "rental." We got every last penny back on our deposit and my wife and I cleaned the house like we cleaned others that we have

I might forget to say one important thing. As Costley & Company provides decent maintenance and immediate response to your request, you can live in a safe place. I mean, the office seemed to care about the safety of the tenants and the neighbors. This just popped up in my head now.

I don't really understand the negative reviews. My experience with Costley was nothing but positive. I believe that the key is simply to follow the instructions that they give you. Read your lease, take care of the property, don't expect special favors or exceptions to rules, and you'll be fine. Emily and Cicely were nothing but professional and solicitous. When I moved in and felt that the front and back doors with glass panes were a security risk, they immediately spoke to the owner and got the doors changed. After I moved out, and the deposit was taking a little longer than I expected to be

Horrible company! Even if the rent is lightly cheaper than elsewhere, RUN! Long story short, they took over my lease from another company. I moved out of the area for work. I ended up paying for an empty apt for 8 months since they did absolutely nothing to help me find a sub-lessor until right before my lease ended. They finally found someone to take over my lease a month early and they STILL kept my last months rent. The landlord was paid twice for that month! Their office staff's customer service is deplorable.

This is the best rental company I've ever dealt with in Bloomington. I've rented from them for 3 years and they have helped me with any concerns or questions immediately. Many rental companies treat students badly in Bloomington, and maintenance requests or other issues can go unresolved for months. Costley was always great. Highly recommend them.

My problem is with Costley and Company rental management.I moved to a place that was managed by Costley. When I moved in I checked everything that was wrong with the apartment and I also went to their office and talked to Josh about the carpet and it has a lot of spots as well as the walls and the holes in it and his respond was you already moved in and it will be hard to do anything about it because of your stuff. as well as the apartment was not cleaned good and I told the office about it but they did nothing because every time I vacuumed the place which was every other day the vacuum will get

I would not recommend Costley & Co to my worst enemy. They are worse than slumlords. Incredibly unorganized and took advantage of us because we are college students. The day we moved in, we spent cleaning the entire place top to bottom because they hadn't cleaned an inch. They claimed they had the carpet cleaned but the place smelled like cat piss and the stains on the carpet were unbelievable. When we moved out, we were required to get the carpet professionally cleaned as a part of the lease and it ended up looking cleaner than when we had moved in, clearly showing the it wasn't

Costly and company does not care about their customer in any way. The house we lived in had extensive water damage that the company never did anything about. There was mold in the bathroom when we first moved in. They also wait as long as they can to tell you if you have missed rent so that the late fees pile up. Do not rent from these people!!! All my other Bloomington rental experiences were much better.
