It is a great getaway! We were able to bring our own snowmobiles and ride right out from the lodge. They are pet friendly and it was great to being our pets along!
The Latchstring across the street was so good. And Cheyenne crossing is 5 miles away from a change of scenery.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be returning!

Staff there unfortunately is grumpy most of the time. Not much service at all. Makes you feel reluctant to ask for anything because you are going to get some attitude back. The place is clean and warm, but pretty basic. I don't plan on staying again. I will say staff is bad enough that it could ruin the entire stay.
The place has a lot of potential and could be amazing.

The restaurant food was not good. Service was extremely slow! Our hotel stay for NEW Years was the worst! The staff was VERY RUDE! For being a hotel we couldn’t have our own food even though they provided no food!!!!! It’s didn’t matter what we did they were telling us we couldn’t. We had 12 people in our group all stayed at 200$ a night and my husband I had went up just to renew our vows simple 10 people not disturbing anyone. They refused to let us stand in front of the fireplace because we didn’t PAY more money to use the lobby. The most unfriendly environment.

Very nice lodge with excellent staff and friendly atmosphere. We were there October 9-15 when Mother Nature decided to dump almost 2' of snow on us. The lodge lost power and had to be ran on emergency generator. Also no water or wifi. The staff for the whole lodge was staffed by one excellent woman, Bernadette, she was awesome at keeping the guests as comfortable as possible. She also had her husband come out in the weather to bring some hot food for the guests. Just a fantastic experience. We will definitely be back.

Stuck in snowstorm. Can’t get to hotel. Had to rearrange trip for safety reasons. Unplowed roads and no 4 wheel drive. Tried to cancel over 24 hours in advance. They said no cancellations within 5 days. Had to cancel at rough riders hotel in medora even though it is day of. They asked if we were safe and no cancellation fee. For day of which is Amazing hospitality. Spearfish needs to be more accommodating when weather and roads are the issue. Not our choice. Take a tip from a small hotel like rough riders in Medora.

Beautiful place to stay! The surrounding outdoor activities make this place! It would’ve gotten a five star rating if the beds came with more comfortable sheets/bedding. There is only one sheet and this very thin sheet like comforter. The shower took a long time to warm up as well, but other than that everything was great! Nice hot-tubs on the outside patio as well, great for seeing the stars at night.

Really enjoyed this lodge. Nice atmosphere in the lodge and a great patio for watching the interesting vehicles that drive the canyon. Especially enjoyed the canoe fire pit!!! THERE IS NO ELEVATOR to second floor. We had a suite (I think it was the Roosevelt Suite) that was over the patio and it was quiet despite activity downstairs and the road in front. Rooms in the back overlook a parking lot with mountains surrounding. The bathroom is divided into shower with separate bath and a toilet, sink is separate. Nice sitting area with kitchen area with microwave, full sized refrigerator and

We had the best dinner at the Latchstring walleye? spelling and my husband had the trout. maybe leave off the cream sauce on trout or have on the side. It was awesome both fish were delish.
FLUFFY homemade cheescake with REAL GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST . The best I have ever had-anywhere.
THE SERVICE WAS GREAT. Our waiter was cute smart funny and accommodating. I will add his name soon.

This is quite possibly the worst place I have ever stayed. The beds were terribly uncomfortable, the sheets felt like steel wool and did not fit the beds properly, so most of the night was a workout to keep the sheets on the bed while trying to sleep. Then to top it off, they charged me double and made me make multiple phone calls to get refunded. A colossal waste of my time. The area itself is beautiful, but I highly recommend staying somewhere else and driving up for a few hours of hiking and sightseeing.

This place is over priced and horrible customer service. We had to get a new key multiple times a day. They will not pick up your trash. We were there for five days and I went to front desk to ask where we take our trash, they said to leave at our front door. They never picked up the trash and it reeked so bad we had to find a dumpster on our own, which was the kind of hiking we didn't plan on while on vacation! They never brought us clean towels, we had to wash our own. Then when we left we got an extra $273.00 charge (on top of the over priced $1,600.00+ we already paid) because they

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge two times and we had a fabulous time on both occasions! The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I highly recommend their accommodations and the service provided by their team.
One of the staff went out of her way to set aside something I wanted to purchase from their gift shop and asked to hold the item until I returned home. When I arrived home I called, paid for the item, and she wrapped and shipped my package to me. I could not have been happier!

Excellent stay. We came here expecting the best and we got the best. The room was very nice and my family including the dog loved it. I am from North Western Europe so the snow was wonderful to see.It made our view of the Black Hills even better. The one and only down of the whole trip was the restaurant across the street. It is terrible. But you don't come here to eat. Living free in Lead SD is the only place to be. And a shout out to One of the Staff Mrs McGinnis we had great craic together. An excellent employee.

I stayed here for my brother in laws wedding. The country and scenery is absolutely beautiful! Gotta put this out first. THERE IS NO CELLULAR SERVICE HERE AND THE LODGES WIFI IS SPOTTY (almost nonexistent). With that being said the lodge offers great activities like hiking, fishing, biking even UTV's, at a rental cost (which I didn't have time to experience). The room was clean and pretty comfy. They have an outdoor hot tub you can enjoy till mid nite. The lodge even has a bar that's open till 2 a.m. There's a gift shop with necessities and hoodies, shirts and caps. This place

I am writing this review as we used the Lodge to rent our UTV to explore the canyon with. We rented the Polaris Ranger 1000 which included helmets and a gps as well as emergency phone. The Polaris was new and in great condition. Safety was their priority and everyone had to watch a video as well as listen to a talk about how to operate the vehicle before you are allowed to use it on the trails. We rented it for the day and it was such a blast. We were on a point on the mountain where you could see several states. The view was amazing. We also saw a lot of wild life and things covered more ground

Tried to get a Bloody Mary. I was standing at the bar and the skinny bartender refused to acknowledge me. I couldn't see past the post and I figured there were people standing on the other side so I waited patiently. After a few minutes, a gentleman came to stand at the bar, after a few minutes he asked me if she had taken my order yet. I replied, and we stood there for a while. He said there were maybe 8 people sitting at the other side of the bar. I finally gave up & day down to wait for my friends. He stayed. He was served after 10 minutes of my leaving. I am from Los Angeles and know

What a cute place! We enjoyed the amazing location, who would not love the backdrop! The Lodge was clean, the staff was great and we had a cute Bear on top of our loaner robes greeting us upon arrival. The bed wasn't really comfy and the hot tubs were a little iffy, otherwise it would have easily been 5 stars.

Be very careful with making a reservation. We arrived with a confirmed reservation for a certain room type, only to find out they didn't have that room type available. The manager was flippant in his response and didn't seem to really care. We purposely booked online directly with the hotel to avoid this type of thing. The lodge is in a beautiful setting, so if you don't care about getting the room you get, you will enjoy the beautiful setting.

No idea what it would be like to actually stay there. Made a reservation 2 months prior to our arrival, finally made it to the lodge after 9pm to check in (2 small children in tow) to find out that the reservation had evaporated. Someone apparently had reserved the entire facility for a wedding and -best I can tell- the events/reservation staff cancelled reservations to accommodate the larger group. No idea what actually happened. Thankfully the Holiday Inn in Spearfish still had rooms, and even upgraded us to a suite. Ended up being cheaper too. Holiday Inn front desk asked what had happened

I have been waiting several years to stay at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. All the pieces fell together in August 2016. Upon arrival, I was incredibly disappointed. It's a spectacular property with terrible management. NOTHING works in the lodge. From the fireplace at the front door, to the phones in the room. The internet was completely intermittent (unusable), the vending machines take your money and are out of product, the restaurant was running the A/C when it's 45 degrees outside (food was also cold). When a number of customers asked them to turn it off, they said that they couldn&apos

I've been staying at this hotel for years, whenever I'm in the black hills area this is my go-to hotel. It's like a secret hide-away, secluded and peaceful. Always wonderful service. The decor is rustic and charming. The suite rooms are awesome. They have 2 hot tubs out on the upper level deck you can enjoy during a snow storm looking at the gorgeous surrounding rock outcropping cliffs of the canyon. You can walk to roughlock falls from the hotel. The restaurant across the street offers the most amazing food you'll ever have. They have a continental breakfast- you can choose

A very cute, rustic, and sanitary place.
My wife and I are travel nurses and we really enjoy places that take pride in their lineage and service.
Worth the price and the staff as well as the other guests were very polite and thoughtful.
Whoever posted this place is only one star is misguided and should be taken lightly

The hotel has a rustic feel. The room was comfortable with a wonderful view. Our room also had a mini fridge and microwave. We didn't try the hot tubs on the deck, but they looked like they would be great on a cool night. My favorite part was the trail leading to Roughlock Falls. You can drive to the falls but walking is more fun. There is a pond behind the hotel with a lot of trout. The water is clear so you can watch them swim. They have a board walk so you can get closer to the action.
