Services
Newark Yoga Movement is honored to have a dedicated and dynamic group of Yoga Guides, Board Members, and Advisors. All believe in the power of yoga and how it can help make positive transformations both personally and academically with children and all who can positively impact children. Many of them have been with us since our 2009 formation.
Founder Debby Kaminsky had read about low graduation rates in Newark--in 2013 approximately 87.5% of students graduated high school in New Jersey as compared to 67.7% in Newark(Source: NJ.com). She wanted to do something to help reverse the trend.
She got a meeting with then Mayor Cory Booker who liked the idea and through the education liaison at the time, forwarded an executive summary of her vision and how to implement to all schools in Newark. The first school to reach out was Phillips Academy (then know as St. Philips Academy). Our second School was Team Academy (part of Kipp NJ network now recongized by NJ Dept of Education as a Lighthouse School District).

We've been back in-person for yoga at both NHA The Clubhouse and Housing Authority since May. Masks required and all attendees should bring their own mat and any props. Attendance limited to 50% capacity at these two venues. We are a community who has been physically distanced over the last year, yet together through community with our breath, movement and heat.
Donations from you truly make a huge difference as our programming fees are nominal. For less than $1 per student, a donation of $50 can start over 60 students on their journey towards transformation, self regulation, and beyond through yoga. We are grateful for whatever you can contribute and invite you to visit a school and see your donation create transformation before your eyes.
Newark Yoga Movement uses a variety of programs to help schools achieve annual objectives from disciplinary actions to academics and of course self-care and self-regulation for children and educators. Below are some examples of programs we have engaged in with many of our schools, both elementary and High School.
