Staff was incredible. Very helpful and eager to please. Although slightly dated, our room was clean and well appointed. Grounds are beautiful and access to the ocean and great little town is easy and convenient. We would highly recommend for a quick getaway or extended stay. Quiet, relaxing and well worth the coat (which was very reasonable compared to other hotels in the area).

This venerable hotel cannot find it within their hearts or business policy to even provide pay-per-cup tea or coffee for patrons prior to 4PM.

The staff was very friendly, helpful and generous. We brought our two large dogs, and they were treated so well, allowed on the furniture, provided extra towels, and generally more than we ever asked for. The bar and hallways have gorgeous tiffany style stained glass and lighting, which I adore. For a building of it's age, it's incredibly comfortable and well cared for.

Mendocino Hotel & Garden Suites is a relaxing and fun place to stay in Mendocino. The main hotel is over 150 years old with a beautiful lobby & hotel bar. We were warmly greeted at check-in. Our room was ready before check-in and a chilled bottle of wine with glasses, (as we requested when booking) was waiting for us in our room. We stayed in a dog friendly garden suite that is in the back of the property with plenty of parking. Our room was decorated in the Victorian style with antique furniture, lace curtains and historic photos. We enjoyed the fireplace in our room and were given 2 logs

Pros: The front desk folks are oh-so friendly!
Cons: We had no wifi in our room and had to leave the room anytime we needed to work.

The property is beautiful. As you enter the hallway, there is a beautiful common lounge area for the guests with a fireplace overlooking the coast. It’s a great place to spend your evening with a glass of wine. The place takes you back in years due to its Victorian design. The rooms was clean.
Sandy - the concierge was super friendly and helpful.

My partner and I stayed in a garden suite for 2 nights and for $406 (and that's including the 20% discount we received since we booked with a wedding party) we got:
-a room that smelled old, the scent is very strong and you don't get used to it
-black mold in the bathroom
-beer bottles and dirty underwear from the previous patron under the bed
-a bed that's like sleeping on a sponge
-no fridge
-spotty WiFi, don't bother bringing a laptop/iPad, we could barely get our iPhones to connect
-no air conditioning or a fan
-bad attitude from the staff

For how much you pay to stay

I'd like to first start with how wonderful Sandy is. She was able to switch around our rooms to make it so my parents and I had a room right next to each other. The location was wonderful and the views were perfect.

We stayed in rooms with a bathroom. We had king beds, but they were very hard mattresses and they only had a sheet and a light blanket on them, no warm layer. My room had two sinks, but only one working sink; the other sink was missing a faucet and was left with holes. The fire place in my room was under construction, which was fine for me. The room was just out dated. There

I stayed here with my grandchildren and son. The hotel was very clean and I loved the ambience. Internet services were great and the ocean view from the balcony was beautiful. I highly recommend this hotel and will return. The hotel and guests were very patient with my grandchildren who were a handful at bedtime. I probably would not stay here again with small children mainly out of consideration for other guests.

Wife and I went to Mendocino Hotel for a 3 day get away. What a great time. We stayed in the main hotel in an old Victorian suite that over looked the ocean. The decor is very authentic and the view from our room and balcony overlooked the ocean and Mendocino coast. We enjoyed watching the ocean from our balcony and sipping wine. Jamie and Sandy were the crew that made our stay fantastic. They were both sweet and accommodating. We made a fire in the fireplace downstairs and sat in the main living room area and enjoyed the warm crackling fire and admired the old paintings. Love the old fashioned

We stayed in one of the "garden suites". This place has not seen a gardener in years. The bathroom had mold and the wall paper was peeling off. Our balcony over looking a broken down fence and weeds was filthy. I had to wash down the table and chairs before we could sit. This is not a place one could walk barefoot. The carpet looked like it had been there since the place built in 1878. One thing good; the beds were clean, however mine had a great big hole in the mattress and when you turned, you could end up on the floor. The description said there was a lounge bar and restaurant

This historic hotel is a little worn out. And when we checked in, they didn't quite handle the reservation properly and it was possible we would have to check out our first night and move to another room for our remaining two nights. Thankfully, hard working Sandy in the front desk was able to work it out and we kept our room for our entire stay.

The room was a little dilapidated in a charming sort of way and you can't beat the location, right on the ocean front. Price very competitive for the location and it's nice to know you can stay in Mendocino without paying an arm and

Darling cute old hotel that seems to have trouble with booking customers into the rooms for which they have a reservation. My 92 year old mother and I came to Mendocino for a few days and chose to stay at this hotel, the Mendocino Hotel and Garden Suites. I was reassured of and paid for a garden suite with two beds and minimal stairs. My mother is not disabled, does not use a wheelchair and did not need a walker while walking with me but too many steps can be difficult for her at the end of a long day. When we arrived, we were told that someone had the room we reserved and had confirmation

Hotel itself is "cute" and "quaint." Not the most comfortable and definitely not up to date, but has that old original Victorian charm. It is a shame to give a bad review because during the day it seemed little lovely albeit run down.
The biggest problem is the location-- they are directly next to some gross dive bar, and the patrons are loud and rude at night. Our room seemed to over look this dive bar and we were unable to sleep both nights due to the talking and the music that could be heard in our room despite the doors and windows closed. Even worse, it seems some super drunk ladies were

We stayed at one of the garden cottage rooms a week ago. The king size bed was really comfortable. The room was quiet and we would definitely stay again. Also I left a pillow and the hotel quickly shipped it to my home.

Such an adorable hotel! It was my first time in Mendocino and my mom, sister, and I were there for a few days. We got placed in one of the garden rooms and it was so cute! It was really big and pretty. The front desk staff are super nice and will give you anything you need. I loved it there

This was our second stay and we absolutely love this wonderful old hotel -- a trip back in time! I had accidentally made an error when I booked the room to celebrate my husband's birthday. I was so upset that I had not gotten one of the bigger rooms out in the garden.

Fortunately, the employee at the desk, Jamie, cheerfully found a terrific room that we could change too. JAMIE is an AWESOME employee that went the extra step with great customer service that redeemed my efforts to give my husband a wonderful birthday trip after COVID completely shut down all celebrations when he turned

Awesome place to stay! Pet friendly! I walked my dog to the beach every morning-just across the street! Spectacular Headlands Park is right there! We stayed at one of the suites which had its own bathroom -its Just a short walk behind the main hotel and private parking. I thought the ambiance was Just lovely - like I was taken back in time. Huge walk in closet plus armoire/dresser. Clean bathroom. Even had a fireplace with logs. Heaters were warm and toasty. You have your own balcony with chairs. They had a coffee machine in the suites, iron and board, hair dryer. Beautifully landscaped

Finally got to stay at the Mendocino Hotel & Garden Suites. The first time I saw this hotel about 13 years ago, I was struck by how much it brought to mind the "old West" hotels portrayed in the movies. The building is Victorian. The walls floors and ceiling were made of REAL wood. The lighting fixtures are not of modern style.

Another thing that struck me is how conveniently located this place is. Right there on Main Street just steps away from the ocean.

So when we checked in, I was kinda expecting to stay in one of the rooms on Main Street. Apparently, several lots behind the
