Named after the American Civil War Colonel, Robert Gould Shaw, who commanded the first African American regiment in the US Army in 1863 and is the namesake of the Shaw neighborhood, The Colonel is meant to honor the significance of the unit's contributions to our nation. The original structure dates back to the turn of the century, though the renovations are forward thinking, like the building's namesake.
Residents will appreciate the style and surroundings, the attention to detail, and the way in which the building commands a presence in this unique DC neighborhood. All units are thoughtfully designed with the aim of creating a subtle balance of historical elegance and modern amenities. Upgrade your quarters to a luxurious loft, townhome or penthouse configuration and live an unequaled old world/new century kind of life.

I have loved living here! Andrew met all of my requests during the leasing process and went out of his way to help me to transfer my lease when I unexpectedly had to leave town. He definitely goes above and beyond. The location is incredible, the building is well maintained, it is very dog friendly, and the other tenants are super friendly. I highly recommend The Colonel to any young professional.

So disapointed with my attempts to lease in this building! It was one of my top options, and I set up my tour well in advance since I was coming in from out of town. Andrew confirmed the tour date and time with me TWICE, including two days before. Then when I showed up, nada. I waited, nothing. Called the number on the email block, and the woman who answered told me "sorry, I don't actually work on site" with zero follow up. I even emailed Andrew saying I was waiting and 10 hours later .... still nothing. A resident let us into the courtyard area, where, I had hoped I could attract

As most people have already mentioned - Andrew is THE BEST. From our first virtual tour through my first few weeks of living at The Colonel, Andrew has truly gone above and beyond as a property manager. (Sorry Andrew I don't actually know what your title is). Andrew was kind enough to call me a few days before the move to ensure things were ready to do and even helped put up the parking zone signs for my movers. @ May Riegler Properties: you are truly lucky to have him and he deserves a raise.
I've been living at The Colonel for about a month now, and while I do enjoy it, there are definitely

We love living at the Colonel. It's a modern building with great management and a great location. We moved during the pandemic and one of the new managers, Natasha Smith, was extremely helpful and welcoming. Moving at that time was extremely stressful but Natasha made our transition smooth. I highly recommend this building.

Very unsafe. You share trash with the neighboring restaurants and rats infest those areas including the commons courtyard. Intruders get in and steal packages as well as units on the ground level. Very high turnover of property managers so issues take lots of time to address. Overpriced for what you get.

I lived here for over a year. First, nothing works. My washer/dryer never worked; the garbage disposal never worked. I made multiple maintenance requests and every time, I was promised things were "fixed." They were not. Second, there are MASSIVE hidden fees. I had a water/trash bill of $140 every month (they tell you $10 when you move in). Third, they refused to return half of my deposit even though I had professional movers come and the unit was left clean. After 45 days, they would not even write me a check for the half they admitted they owed me. I had to write multiple written demand

I have had the worst customer service experience with this building! According to their website, they have many units available in a few months which is when we're looking to move. We love the neighborhood which is how I found The Colonel. I've emailed, called, left voicemails, followed up with several people, and I was just told they do not have any available units. When I asked when something would be available, Shayla, the building manager, said not until 60 days out - so August or September, to which I said I'd be interested, then she said nothing was available? Ok. Then I asked
