Portland Eye Care
We are proud to be an independent Portland business with deep roots to this community. We walk and ride our bikes to work (and often deliver your contact lenses by bicycle). We support Portland schools by volunteering at Richmond Elementary school and visiting various Portland schools to educate students on eye health as well as careers in health care.

We import most of the eyeglasses and other products we offer directly from small Japanese design houses. Except for our office, you won't find most of these designs outside of Japan or the fashion capitals of Europe. We work with you to have eyeglass lenses and contacts that are personalized to your prescription and personal style.
Services
Samuel Adelman O.D. is your optometrist at our office on SE Division Street. He received his doctorate of optometry from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.

He is licensed as an optometrist in Portland, Oregon and has completed optometrist preceptorship training in primary care optometry, management of ocular disease, refractive surgery management, and specialty contact lens fitting at institutions including Kaiser Permanente, The Veterans Administration, Lasik Plus Refractive Surgery Centers, and Pacific Eye Clinics.
You'll find us at our bright and cheerful 4133 SE Division St. Portland, OR 97202 optometrist office open Monday thru Friday 8:30AM to 5:30PM and Saturdays 9:00AM to 2:30PM. Look for the beige brick building on the North side of SE Division Street between 41st and 42nd avenues. Easy and free parking is available on Division St. as well as on 41st and 42nd Ave.
We are proud to support and give back to our Portland community through donation of our time and resources. Below are some of the organizations we support through donations of money and products, advertising, or volunteering. We are always looking for partners to make our community stronger, and like to say that what is spent in our office doesn't just stay in Portland, it tends to only go a few blocks down the street.
Sustainability to us is about all the little things we can do so our business does less harm to the world we all share. Below is our plan for these little things. Please steal and copy the things we're doing well and use them in your own home or business. Please let us know (gently) about the things we're missing or could do better.
Eye Exam A comprehensive eye exam with the eye doctor includes vision testing and evaluation of ocular health, for a routine exam we generally reserve 45 minutes for your appointment, though generally eye exams take about 30 minutes.

Contact Lens Exam Contact lens exams are a little more involved than standard eye exams in that they also include the evaluation of your contact lenses by the eye doctor and, if necessary, the fitting of contact lenses.Fees depend on complexity i.e. Dry Eye Treatment Dry eye treatment involves finding the cause of the dry eye condition and selecting the best treatment together with your eye doctor.

Since I have keratoconus in my right eye, I see Dr. Adelman when I need to. He's very low-key and the rest of his team are always helpful. A very calming environment as well.

Dr. Adelman and his team are great! Good pandemic protocols and a nice selection of glasses, and eye care advice that made sense. I didn't feel rushed in my appointment, and all of my questions were answered patiently. Happy I switched to them!

Portland Eye Care is great!! Dr Adelman is excels at taking the time to explain what he is doing and what is means for your eye sight and eye health. Very kind, personal, and professional.
The front desk team always go above and beyond. Whether following through about insurance coverage, getting a few extra contacts to try before your eligible to order through your insurance, or making sure your glasses fit right. They are friendly and competent.
I also like there online appointment scheduling, reminders, and annual appointment reminder. Easy to use and not over aggressive with bugging you on

This place is wonderful: friendly, helpful, respectful staff, extremely personable. Dr. Samuel Adelman is 100% the best. He is respectful, patient, thorough, and kind. He explains things and isn’t pushy or arrogant. He is, by far, the best optometrist I’ve had. I feel I’m in very good hands. I trust these guys, and they treat me really well. Very local. Very real. No bull.

This was my first visit here. Everyone was very hospitable. I feel that I received a very thorough eye exam. The doctor took time to explain things and answer my questions. My lenses were ready in about a week and I am completely satisfied with the new prescription.

The staff was very friendly. The doctor were very calm and explained everything that he was doing and asked if I was comfortable with it. He gave me the option to have my eyes dilated and explained what he would be able to see if they were dilated and if they were not. There was no pressure. I have a very good experience. I will recommend them and will go back for my next eye appointment. Thank you!

The Dr was excellent and they have a great selection of frames. Downside is I was told my glasses would be under $500, but after using my $500 insurance credit, They charged an additional $85 - which was unexpected. I didn't make a fuss but was disappointed with the transaction.

I gave Portland Eye Care a try since they donate to my daughter's school and I've been very impressed by the quality and function of the glasses I got and also by the kind and professional support of the staff as I navigated a new prescription and new styles of frame and lenses.

I didn't actually have an appointment here but when I called in I asked if they could help me out with a trial pair of contacts as I was leaving town very soon and on my last pair. Sure no problem they said. I clarified, I likely don't have time for an appointment but happy to get something on the books. Again just to make sure, can you still help me out. Yes they said, again! I was super excited that this place was going help me out.
I get there and was then told no we can't do that as it's against state law.
I have no problem if they refuse to hand out contacts if it&apos

I was visiting from out of town and frantically trying to find an optometrist to see me before they closed. Dr. Adelman was an absolute god-send and I'm so thankful he was willing to see me.

I basically just showed up at his office right before close (on the Saturday before Memorial Day!) and he was incredibly kind to sit with me and treat my corneal ulcer. I was frazzled and nervous, but he answered all my questions and got my treatment regime started immediately.

I wish he could be my usual eye doctor and if I lived in Portland, he most certainly would be! I definitely recommend his

The first thing Dr. Adelman did after the appointment for correction was hand me a copy of the prescription. No other optometrist has ever done that. It was really cool, because it wouldn't have been awkward at all if I didn't like, or couldn't afford the frames! But it wasn't at all awkward anyway, because Portland Eye Care carries super cute, quality, frames that are a good value. Dr. Adelman also has a very nice assistant who makes fitting easy. She adjusted them once and done--out the door with cute glasses and I can finally see and read. He also gave me plain old bifocals

True story- Flying into Portland airport at 6:02 PM for a vacation I had planned for 8 months for my girlfriend and I. The morning of our flight, I had accidentally rubbed my eye with some tiny metal debris I had touched while closing my garage door before leaving. Extremely PAINFUL ! The speck of metal felt like it was grinding on my cornea every time I blinked. I didn't want to miss our flight to go to an eye surgeon in Phoenix as we didn't have time. Arriving in Portland our plane landed at 6:02 pm on a FRIDAY which most places were closing their doors for the weekend I was in a very

Changed eye glass insurance so my new provider recommended me to come here.

Pros:
- I really like the optometrist I saw. He actually spent a good deal of time during my check up and I didn't feel like rushed cattle. I really appreciated that.

- The optometrist was very easy going. I told him exactly what I needed and he pretty much got me all my prescriptions I wanted. Laugh that this is the basic tenant of going to an optometrist, but a lot of places hem and haw when you ask for certain things. For example, I've been to Eye Care clinics where they would not "prescribe" certain
