Veterinarian Dr. Peter Lugten has always believed that a pet is a member of the family. He established Basic Pet Care Animal Hospital to be a place where pets can receive outstanding healthcare in a gentle, caring environment. We believe that quality care begins with an appointment of at least 30 minutes and requires a thorough examination.
The next most important step is communication. We spend sufficient time to discuss all the findings and recommendations. Dr. Lugten believes in the importance of follow-up phone calls to make sure that the treatment is successful. We place a strong emphasis on preventive medicine and also careful attention to dental health.

Regular examinations of your pet are important for the early diagnosis and prevention of disease. Often these examinations are performed at the time of the pet's annual vaccination. Commonly, we will discover problems in need of attention, such as ear and dental infections, arthritis, heart conditions and even tumors.
A thorough annual exam is the key to keeping pets healthy. Although dogs & cats can be surprisingly effective at communicating with their owners that they are not feeling well, they can have many low grade complaints that they cannot tell you about, until they progress to something more serious. The annual examination at Basic Pet Care begins with the skin.
Basic pet care is equipped with its own laboratory facility. We can perform in-house blood tests and have the results before the end of your appointment. We also read fecal samples to check for parasites and have easy-to-use snap tests that quickly give us the results to your pet's Lyme Disease, Giardia, Heartworm Disease, Leukemia and FIV status.
For the protection of all our guests- your pet, Surgery patients, and other boarders- we require that your pet be up to date with the basic inoculations: the yearly distemper, rabies, Lepto, Bordatella, and Influenza for dogs and Rabies and Distemper for cats. Canine kennel cough (infectious trecheobronchitis) is transmitted by an airborne virus complex.
The dental proverb, "Be true to your teeth or they will be false to you, " is true not only for humans, but for pets as well. Unfortunately, false teeth for dogs and cats aren't yet an option. That's just one of the reasons proper dental care is important for your dog or cat. Pets need strong, healthy teeth for chewing, grooming and enjoying daily activities like fetching a stick or picking up a ball.

For Covid, they do strictly curbside and they fo it well. It's very organized and efficient.
The people are so nice and take the time to listen and understand your pet's issues. The best part is this may be the only vet I've been to that doesn't pound you with up-selling. I've left my last 2 vets for that reason. They actually tell you what your pet needs and why and I was even told a few things I don't necessarily need unless.....! My previous vets would have just tried to give me the hard sell.
Love these people. They also seem to care. ❤
