Northbrook Community Nursery
The Northbrook Community Nursery School (NCNS) is a non-profit, non-denominational pre-school that has been in operation for over 60 years. NCNS provides high quality early childhood education in a warm and nurturing environment. The preschool's core philosophy is that children learn best through play, and the Creative Curriculum utilized in our programs reflects this core belief.

NCNS has always been a very active school with many events for the children and parents creating a strong sense of community. Northbrook Community Nursery School, through the cooperation of staff, board and parents, is committed to meeting the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of each child.
Services
We know from educational research that children learn by doing. Through active involvement with their environment, children are better able to make sense of the world around them. By interacting with their physical and social environment, children continually broaden their frame of reference. The richer the environment, the more opportunities there are for children to learn by doing.
NO - Pull-ups are allowed at school to help kids that are still in the potty training process. Along with the Creative Curriculum, our teachers use the Handwriting without Tears program to give the children all the tools they need for kindergarten. Each classroom has 2 equal teachers working side by side who share in the planning of activities, children's developmental assessments, and conducting parent/teacher conferences.
NCNS offers play-based learning programs for children ages 15 months to 5 years in addition to various optional enrichment programs. The programs at NCNS have a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 7, with our 2's and Early 3's classes having a lower ratio of 1 to 5 and 1 to 6 respectively. We feel these are appropriate ratios for the age groups represented in each class.
Northbrook Community Nursery School offers programs for children ages 15 months through 6 years. Early registration is held at the start of November for current families, and Open registration begins in late November for the public. Registration is ongoing until all classes are filled to capacity. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is first come, first serve.

We now have our second child at NCNS. Such a wonderful place. Our kids love going there and the teachers are amazing.

I would never recommend a parent send their child to this institution. My child who loved school before attending Northbrook would beg to stay home. I was not impressed with the level of compassion from the teachers my child was assigned. Nor do I think they did that great of a job helping my child to fit in after joining the class in January.
