Services
Bennett & Barden Funeral Home has been serving Powhatan area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come. In 1934 Mr. Larkin Garrett a native of Cumberland County, Virginia opened the funeral home in the village of Powhatan, Virginia.
Planning a funeral can be overwhelming, but you are not alone in this. We're here to support you throughout this journey and make this process one of love, healing, and life celebration. Below is some information to help you get started, but you can contact us at any time if you need help.

When a loved one dies at home or in a place that isn't a healthcare facility, you'll need to contact emergency personnel before they can be taken into our care.If your loved one was under medical care, it's a good idea to call their physician as well. If your loved one dies in a healthcare facility, they will notify the proper authorities, including the funeral home you have chosen to care for your loved one if they know that information.
Planning a funeral service can be a very difficult process for families who have just lost a loved one. But it's important to provide those who are grieving with a supportive environment in which they can begin to find closure, say goodbye, and come to terms with the loss.

Gathering with friends and family gives everyone the opportunity to connect, share memories, offer words of sympathy, and create a lasting network of comfort and support as they start the journey toward healing.Immediate burial means that your loved one will be buried or entombed without a public service or gathering.
Personalization isn't just about honoring your loved one's individuality. It also allows family and friends to feel connected to the services and the life being honored. We work closely with you and your family to get to know your loved one's life story so we can make their services as personal as possible.
We're proud to do our part in honoring our country's veterans. Our duty is to provide you and your family with professional and dignified assistance during your time of need, and we promise to support you in honoring your loved one for their dedication and selfless service. Former military members who served on active duty and departed under honorable conditions.

This company claims compassion but did not offer it to my husband and I when our son was killed.
It was cold and archaic.
I ask for a picture of one of my sons tattoos before they cremated him. They failed at this too, an epic fail. This request was even in our contract. Heartbreaking, as if cremation isn't permanent.
I would never recommend them.
People grieving deserve so much better during such a horrific time.

I am writing this on the night of my husband’s funeral, October 24, 2019. I could not be more pleased with the whole process. Matthew Bennet was very knowledgeable and so professional as well as being caring. The older gentleman that was there the night of the viewing was so kind and considerate. The young man who came to the graveside , I think his name was, Charlie, was kind and helpful as well. Everything was perfect. I didn’t have to worry about anything. I highly recommend them.

My experience on Friday February 1st 2019 when our family met with them to dicuss all the preparation for our Moms viewing on Sunday February 3rd was going fine until we got to the part of the Time of the viewing and the Man I don't remember his name brought up that it was Super Bowl Bowl Sunday , I was stunned, upset that he would even Mention Super Bowl Sunday, we were not there to dicuss ,basing our Mom's viewing around the time of the super bowl. As far as I was concerned it was the most inconsiderate , unprofessional thing that man could have done. We were all in such shock we didn't say anything

The most non-compassionate, unprofessional funeral home i have ever dealt with! These folks are in the wrong profession to be dealing with families that have just lost a loved one.
