Having previously worked as both funeral director and manager of two earlier established funeral homes in Richmond, Walter J. Manning, at age thirty-eight, founded Walter J. Manning Funeral Home in February of 1941. The original building located at 1120 N. 27th Street served as both a place of business on the first floor, and as a family residence on the second floor.
It is important to recognize that funerals are for the living - for those who will suffer the trauma of losing a loved one. It is through the funeral process that emotional needs are served for those who grieve. Please understand that our care for the families we serve continues after the funeral service.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Planning a funeral can be very stressful for a family. Pre-need arrangements are the funeral plans that people make for themselves while living. The primary objectives in pre-planning are to relieve the survivors of the burden of having to make the decisions themselves and to ensure that the services are carried out according to your wishes.

I have been to plenty of funerals but having to plan one for your parent was so painful. They made everything so much better. My dad died from cancer so when he passed he had lost so much weight. They made him look like his self he just looked like he was sleep the staff was awesome. Even though it was a hard time it was wonderful working with them.
