In the world of ophthalmology and vitreo-retinal surgery, retinal detachment refers to a medical condition where the retina pulls away from the blood vessel layer that supplies it with nutrients and oxygen. Considered an urgent situation that requires immediate medical attention, retinal detachment deprives the retinal cells of oxygen and places the afflicted individual at extreme risk of permanent vision loss in the affected eye.
Services
One of the Southwest's most sophisticated practices devoted to diagnosing and treating diseases of the retina, macula and vitreous. Our practice offers the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and vascular occlusive diseases that affect the retina. Our doctors also have special interests in uveitis.
A: The macula is the center of the retina. It is responsible for central vision (straight ahead vision), your best vision, and most color vision. The center of the macula is called the fovea. A: They are decreased or complete loss of central vision. Other eye problems can cause similar symptoms; the presence of a macular hole can only be determined by a dilated eye exam.
A: Retinal detachment is caused by a combination of factors including retinal holes, retinal breaks or retinal tears, liquefaction of the vitreous humor, and mechanical forces on the retina, often referred to as "traction". A: A suddden decrease invasion, sometimes described as a "shade or curtain" coming down over your vision.
A: Babies who are born prematurely still have a growing retina. The retina usually finishes growing a few weeks to a month after birth in full term babies, but in premature babies the retina is still growing. During the course of this growth, the blood vessels that bring blood to the retina can begin to develop abnormally.
A: The retina is the delicate lining at the back of the eye that functions much like the film in a camera. It receives light through the lens in your eye, forms that light into images, and sends those images to the brain, enabling you to see. The retina is composed of several layers of cells, including nerve cells, that do many things.

July 13,2017 came in 10 min prior to appointment. And was seen right away when appointment time came. Initially was assisted by Gigi. Very polite, patient and has good bedside manners. This place is very clean. They are always wiping down equipment in front of patient which for me is a big plus. Dr is superb. I came in with a interesting case and Dr. showed to me his concern genuinely. We were advised what to do and given a treatment plan on Drs descion on continued care. Thankyou.

Would have been 3 except we were waiting most of the time I don't understand why 10+ people chk in to be seen by 1 doctor. I am impressed by the dr., just not the waiting. Checked in at 1pm did not leave until 4pm. The staff is pleasant and facility ok. Give yourself 3 hours for this visit.
