I was able to get a last minute appointment. The staff was very nice. The doctor did a thorough examination of my eyes. She listened to my concerns and had time to answer my questions. There was a large selection of frames. I would recommend this optometry.

I was in a pinch.... I tried to support my local optometrist in Laurel and unfortunately the lab broke my favorite frames. I had to scramble around Oakland trying to find something suitable and Grand Lakes was the only place with the frames I wanted to try and purchase if I liked them. But nooooo we can't let you look at those frames 4ft behind me until next Tuesday! So sad I could have had those Tom Ford but had to settle for some cheap a** Prodesign frames until next year. Next time I'm making the trip back into SF to Through The Hayes for my checkup and frames.

Staff were friendly initially, but they gave me the wrong prescription glasses that was way too strong and giving me almost double vision. This was after I had dropped $300 to have all of the special coatings. I called to let them know that it was the wrong lens and I couldn't use them and the woman argued with me that they couldn't have made a mistake and refused to fix it. So now I'm out that money and I can't use my insurance to get another pair. I ultimately had to go somewhere else and get ANOTHER pair. Save yourself the money, because that's all they care about here

They messed up my prescription glasses and when I called to let them know they weren't comfortable (blurs my vision) the woman doubled down and refused to listen. Waste of $300 after upgrading the lens with all the features. They only care about money. Save yourself and go somewhere else.
Edit: In response to the business reply, I'm not sure what else I can do to address my concerns beyond calling twice and being told to just get used to blurred vision. Maybe you should take customers more seriously when they tell you that you've made a mistake.
Edit 2: I visited another optometrist and showed

Booked an appointment based on reviews and a promo my insurance provider has with them, but it didn't stand out to me as anything special. I went in for an eye exam and booked for myself and my fiancé. We went in on a Saturday afternoon but there was still a wait. While we were waiting they allowed me to start taking a look at frames. I had not gotten an eye exam in over 10 years so I went ahead and started looking. Once the tech was ready, my checkup started. The whole eye exam was fairly easy, although it felt a little awkward with the tech, the optometrist was quite pleasant. Once I was

Because my Kaiser optometrists were booked way in advance (Covid) and I needed a new prescription to get new glasses, I went to Grand Lake Optometry for an eye exam by Dr. Akhondan and then ordered new glasses that same visit. My entire experience at GLO could not have been better. Everyone was courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable.

I will return when I need glasses.

One of my close friends recommended Grand Lake Optometry and they did not disappoint! Super easy to schedule an appointment and they are very thorough and efficient. Plus they have Covid safety protocols in place which made me very comfortable knowing they are taking the right precautions. The staff also helped me find the perfect frames, after I described a few different styles I was interested in trying. My new glasses were ready for pickup super quick and in much less time than I had anticipated. Great experience overall!

I can't write a yelp review regarding getting an eye exam at Grand Lake Optometry. I get my eye exam with my medical provider since it's free there. But after getting my eye glass prescription a couple months back, I have been shopping around a few different optometry stores looking for a frame to fit my fat head. After failing miserably, I finally came to Grand Lake.

Upon walking in, the front desk asked the reason for my visit. I let them know I was shopping for a frame. So as I started looking, an employee named Trung helped locate a frame that would fit my fat face and fit the description

Are we to believe that a business is in the practice of giving away an optional, unnecessary, and expensive add-on service to every customer that comes through the door and that payment is strictly voluntary, when it costs four times the charge of a normal eye exam? No, that is laughable. On its face, the business model is deceptive, and, unfortunately, seemingly well-practiced:

1. First, try to slip it in the paperwork without the customer noticing.
2. When the customer notices and questions it, insist that it needs to be done because the doctor thinks it is "necessary" (when it

I need reading glasses, nothing fancy. My insurance covers $200 frames and progressive lenses so I figured I'll get a nice pair of bifocals that I can keep on while I'm not reading. I go in get an exam and get my eyes dilated. First problem I encounter is that all of the frames have tiny price tags that I can't read with my dilated eyes and I get little help locating the sub $200 frames. The frames are apparently intentionally laid out to make it hard to find the cheaper frames. So I spend half an hour locating the few sub $200 frames. But after all that my glasses are still coming

This company has a good variety of styles from "regular" to attention getting. They care about their product and although it took 2x for my glasses to be adjusted to work perfectly, they managed to do so!

I just experienced the most frustrating situation with them and will no longer be going back to them. I was at an eyeglass store in SF and wanted to purchase a few new ones. However, the prescription that was written by Dr. Diana Yuen has expired by a few months so the store wanted me to ask them to fax over a new one to go through with the purchase. I called Dr. Yuen's office to see if they could fax one over. One of the staff told me she would need to speak with the doctor first and that it will take 30 mins. After 45 minutes, I called back since the store did not receive anything. Another

UGH. I am DONE.

This year my exam was a disaster from start to finish. They kept me waiting before my exam started, then had different staff members doing the prelimary testing. The doctor who saw me seemed to have reviewed someone else's file before coming into my room. The doctor laughed when discussing my RX....ummmm, that's disrespectful. I have been wearing extended wear lenses for a number of years. We discussed whether there were any new lenses that may be worth me considering.....and I was told it would be $200 for me to try different lenses. That is more than the cost

I must say I had a great experience. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Todd was very professional. He ran my insurance quickly before we started to varify my coverage, which was good because I've had issues with other Optometry's when it came to coverage for non-prescription sunglasses (yes I have that coverage). Todd was great and knew how to help me with what I was looking for in sunglasses. He gave some good knowledgeable suggestions based on my needs. I was able to pick out and purchase my glasses on my lunch break, winner. I will return for an eye exam as my experience

Grand Lake Optometry is the best! I have been seeing Dr. Yuen for just about 30 yrs. And I've always been happy with my service. I love that fact that the office is also a boutique and they have a great selection of frames and some high end ones if your looking for some.

I was just in there for my annual on Friday January 19, 2018 and was seen by Dr. Davis. She was great. She was patient and she heard all my complaints.

I have to say Dr. Yuen has over the years picked a great group of people for her support staff and they as always came thru for me. YOU GUYS ROCK!! I can't wait for

I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of Grand Lake Optometry's staff. My eye examinations are always very thorough, and the staff--with my many questions, sometimes--are really patient and helpful.

I would agree on the problem of hidden costs, but having been a regular in their office for the past few years, I just ask them upfront about all costs/expenses, and the staff is very transparent about each expense. I don't think the "hidden costs" problem is intentional, but more a matter of implementing a policy to go through all expenses associated with tests, etc. beforehand

**PLEASE READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS BEFORE COMING IN, THIS RECENT REVIEW IS A TESTAMENT THAT NOTHING HAS CHANGED

I would like to give this place a 5 star rating but my overall experience here was not the greatest. I believe Diana Yuen is extremely competent and relayed a lot of good information. During my eye exam she was very thorough and as a result my prescription was the most accurate I've ever received. However, my complaint here is based on their operative side. I, too, am a victim of these "hidden costs" that many have been plagued with here. The lack of transparency on the

She is gonna be my go-to eye doc from now on!

Like others, I to have had a negative experience here. I would like to say I gave two stars because of the helpful women at the first desk. She was great.

Unfortunately there are a lot of hidden costs here. The eye exam took most of my allowance and they only seem to sell one type of lens. The most expensive of course. My prescription is very low and do not need to polycarbinate lenses. The eye doctor was condescending while talking to me during my eye exam which I did not appreciate. I also asked them to email me my prescription so I can get my lenses elsewhere. They have not emailed me yet
