Although in-person classes remain cancelled at this time, teachers are offering virtual classes. We are a cooperative yoga studio committed to the practice, teaching, and study of Iyengar yoga. All teachers are certified Iyengar yoga teachers (CIYT) or have a certified teacher serving as a mentor in the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the U.S.

Yoga is for everyone. We cultivate a non-competitive and vibrant learning environment. Both new and experienced students are welcome. You do not have to be in-shape or flexible to attend a yoga class. Private sessions are available to students with injuries or who want more individual guidance. Contact individual teachers to set up an appointment.
Services
The Yoga Co-op of Madison offers weekly classes that meet every week until the end of the year and series classes that meet for a set number of weeks. You must register for all classes online before arriving at the studio. Information on how to pay for the class is emailed to you once you register.
Many of us first encounter yoga through books or videos. Both are valuable resources, but neither compare in value to the experience available in yoga class. Working with a teacher in a class setting offers you tremendous benefits. Teachers design yoga classes for learning, deepening of your technique, and exposing you to new ways of working and to new qualities of mind.
Iyengar yoga is a method of hatha yoga which was developed (and continues to evolve) from the lifelong dedicated practice of its creator, BKS Iyengar. It is recognized for its exploration of poses as they relate to our physical, emotional, spiritual, physiological, and psychological nature. Yoga is classified as a darsana which is a philosophy based in experience rather than theory.
Many students come to yoga seeking exercise and enhanced flexibility. With the guidance of our experienced and certified teachers, students develop a more committed relationship to the practice of yoga, which over time leads to a deeper understanding of one's self. The Yoga Co-op has a state-of the-art Ropes Wall as well as many props for student use.
Features include all-wood floors, a ropes wall and an extensive selection of quality yoga props for student use. A bathroom and changing space are available. We share the building with other businesses. As a courtesy to the other tenants, students are asked to park on East Dayton Street or use the bike rack located outside our door.

We've lived in Madison for a few years now and have been attempting to get back into Iyengar Yoga (which we did while we lived in Las Vegas and it helped our pain soo much). I have some chronic sciatica pain that flares up every now and then and lately I've had some ankle pain. I refuse to turn to pain medication because I don't want to be dependent on them and I refuse to have any surgery because surgery isn't a good long-term solution. And my husband has some chronic back pain and he won't turn to pain medication for the same reasons. Enter: yoga! (More specifically,

I recently travelled to Madison for a work meeting and had the opportunity to take four yoga classes at the Yoga Co-op of Madison with three different teachers.

This is an outstanding Iyengar Yoga studio. The instruction is expert, the classes are small, and the atmosphere is quite friendly. The studio is bright, clean, and attractive. There is a bathroom and a changing room. They have mats and props for students to use. This is a co-op so you pay the instructor directly (cash or check). There is a reduced fee for members of the co-op (anyone can join) and you can also get a ten class

I've had terrific Iyengar yoga instruction here. As someone recovering from low back injury, and also eager to progress in my yoga, I've been really impressed with the encouragement and great instruction I've received at Yoga Co-op

I was amazed at how many teachers from other studios and yoga types take classes here. The Co-op's teachers are trained in the Iyengar tradition give very detailed instructions - you learn so much about your body and mind.

I am a long-time student at YCOM. I started by taking a basics series and have gradually progressed to higher level classes. YCOM practices the Iyengar method which means, to me, using props to get as close as possible to the proper pose and then holding the pose for some span of time. The work can be physically and mentally challenging particularly in the higher level classes. That being said, I've seen substantial improvement and find it completely worth the effort.

It is disappointing when yoga becomes cult-like and small-minded. I signed up for a workshop here, as yoga practitioner of 10 years with many certifications I have actually met B.K.S. Iyengar. I was not allowed into this workshop because I do not prejudice against other methods of yoga. I will continue to support Iyengar yoga but not at this studio.

One, it's a coop
two, it's Iyengar yoga
three totally unpretentious
that pretty much does it for me. I would recommend working with certified teachers.
the teacher was not certified as an Iyengar teacher which is completely fine. I'm a teacher so I'm critical of others (yes, it's a nasty thing). I liked her but her teaching was lacking something. I'm used to amazing Iyengar teachers so in comparison, it was so-so. I still enjoyed class b/c really it's about my own practice.
