For over 20 years we have been committed to providing children with a beautiful environment that educates and nourishes their mind, body and spirit. We are a community of families and educators that work together to provide happy and secure, mixed-age, Montessori environments for Toddlers (21-36 months), Primary Preschool and Kindergarten (3-6 years old) and Elementary (6-9 years of age).
Guided by their curiosity and their teacher, children choose activities that meet their developmental needs and spark their interest. Imagine a peaceful classroom of 20 children where all are busy, concentrating on their own freely chosen activity or cooperating with a friend. There you have a Montessori classroom!

Services
Great Beginnings Montessori School, founded in 1996, serves over 75 children. Each of our teachers has between 5 to 20 years of teaching experience. All were trained and credentialed at either American Montessori Society (AMS) or Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training centers. We have been an AMS full member school since 2001 and are associated with Montessori Schools of CT.
Great Beginnings Montessori School is a nurturing environment of educators and families which aims to support through the prepared Montessori environment the development of each child's potential through activities that promote independence, physical coordination, emotional growth, social competence, cognitive preparation, academic excellence, and spiritual nourishment.
Great Beginnings is a special place. After three years there, our son is confident, loved, intellectually curious, a great problem solver, and so proud of what he does every day. The caring teachers masterfully develop the key factors for long term success in school (I teach high school) - patience, self-regulation, focus, internal motivation, curiosity, self-advocacy and communication skills.
In our classrooms, Montessori trained teachers present lessons to the children with materials developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. As each child explores the materials, s/he discovers and masters a series of skills, which lay the foundation for more challenging Montessori work, for their future schooling and for life.
Observation: Visit the school to observe a classroom and meet with the Director. Classroom observation is an important step in the process and required of all applicants. It is for PARENTS ONLY. It is a time to sit quietly and observe the children and teachers at work. Please save your questions and comments for the meeting with the Director following your observation.

GBMS is everything education can and should be! A loving, caring, Montessori environment where each and every child can feel good about him/herself. GBMS is a school which fosters a love of learning, promotes independence, develops each child's potential and provides social awareness. This school is staffed by dedicated individuals who believe in the principles of Montessori education and genuinely love what they do.

Firstly, the women can't even answer the phone politely. She was talking to a coworker in mid sentence when she answered. Then she rudely told me summer programs were only open to students. well wouldn't my child be a student if he went there or did you even ask!? No. So how does she know if he is there already or not? And I did go to Montessori as a child but if they cant even teach this ill mannered grown up how to speak to people or answer a phone God only know what we are paying for! NO WAY!!

My son wasn't a social kid and we have heard so many good things about Montessori overall. When he finished the primary and started public school, he was a totally different person. He still needs a bit warm up but has no problem to fit/participate in a group setting.
He loves to learn and his math is far ahead of the public school standard. He learned many practical life skills in school. His reading is not at the level we like to see but I think we parents should take some responsibilities on reading too. Again, Montessori is not about core but to strengthen what they are good at and interested
