Zanker Road Landfill
We're the leader in construction and demolition (C&D) recycling, diverting over 80% of all materials from the landfill. We were the first to do it, we're the most innovative at it, and we're the first in the Western U.S. to earn LEED Certification, verified through the Recycling Certification Institute, the nation's top independent industry auditor.

That's what we mean by "Greenovation." Along with being the most greenovative C&D recycler, we pride ourselves on great customer service, convenience and competitive prices. Critical: Professionalism
Giving 1 star because of this very obnoxious individual at the scales that presented himself as Paul "the supervisor". Such people need to learn some very basic customer service before they are ever allowed to face customers, let alone supervise others. Poor. Very poor.

Was able to dispose my old couch here with ease. I docked 1 star only because it was $33 bucks for just 1 couch which is kinda pricey. I would come here again though since it's local to me.

We come here cause it's closer and conveniently located ... however the smell is definitely roll the window up if it's a hot day... its housed off the 237 and hugs Alviso trails ... tons of wildlife and a very popular dump site...

Fee is $33 a truck load ... its all dirt road once you pass the weigh station check in and I highly recommend you keep the windows up... very industrial but really can't expect anything less and thankful it's open to the public.

Definitely recommend

I hate this place: their website is filled with chest thumping about how green they are, but they have little to no helpful information for SJ citizens trying to use the recycling facility. Do I have to go on the scale just to drop off electronics? clean cardboard? Which site do you go to drop different things off? Oh it’s not a material on the main page? read the PDF where you find that corrugated cardboard is accepted! (but we don’t tell you which site.) Never mind: i’m sure they have clearly marked signs ? nope!
ok i’ll just go find someone to ask. Is there an office where you can ask

Customer’s not wearing masks when getting close to employees and are not asked to use a mask. Also the workers checking receipts are not wearing masks even when they get really close to you. This place is acting like we’re not in a pandemic anymore.

came to this place to discard some construction materials. Drywall, old tiles.
It was very easy to find the place. You pay at the entrance, drive down the road and dump. Easy and convenient

What a Dump! (One of the few times I can use that in a positive way)

Anyway, this is place is awesome for what it is (it's a dump).

If you have junk, this is the perfect place to dump it all. Though it is a bit confusing because the website seems to be geared to people are more on the commercial side, the answer is yes, you, the average citizen, can dump here, and it's pretty cheap and easy.

If you have a lot of junk in your house, you have 5 options.

1) Dump it yourself
2) Get one of those large dumpsters
3) Have your garbage service come for a special collection
4) Have someone

Wow! VERY VERY EXPENSIVE!!! For normal trash (at site 2) like three trash cans of stuff cost me $87? No wonder you see so much trash dumped illegally throughout San Jose. Other than that. Site 2 employees were professionals and helpful.

Zanker Recycling is awesome! We came here to dispose of an old mattress. There is clear signage along the road so you know which entrance to use. If you overshoot it (like I did...) it's easy to circle back. You drive up to the scales and are quoted a (in my case, reasonable) price. Then you drive up the hill and dump your garbage. The car is re-weighed upon exit. It's very straightforward and the staff members are great. Come here for an easy in-and-out. Remember to look up pricing online beforehand so you're not taken by surprise.

In a wasteful society it is inspiring to visit and meet with people who expend so much effort in dealing with what so many of us take so lightly and unthinkingly. Few people really understand or appreciate the scale and scope of the waste problems we are faced with and I, for one, am glad that there are folks like those at Zanker recycling who work in the background to manage a problem we all contribute to. I firmly believe that every citizen needs to educate themselves about how our waste is handled and what challenges exist. It impacts us all profoundly and we can play a huge role in the solution

For those of us that go to the dumps I think by far this is the best one. Sure it's a little bit further from Almaden valley but they don't stress. The instructions were clear on what they can or cannot take (look them up online BEFORE you load up your truck and go) you need to realize that there are some things they can not take and if you know you will not waste time. The prices were extremely fair. It seems like when I used to go to Guadalupe (Almaden valley) the prices kept climbing to ridicules amounts and this was generally home trash and metal scrap. Nothing that was hazardous

Thanks Michael, I have already used up my city free pickup allotments.

Took another SUV load in today but this time invested time and effort to carefully pack, fitting the material together like a puzzle to maximize the density with no airspace between stuff. It paid off - they simply measure the total size and my bill was only $50 this time.

You really need a simple and fast high/medium/low density factor in the pricing scheme so I can avoid this hassle.

Charged me 285 Dollars for a 10 foot truck of wood debris from roof. The only reason i chose them was proximity. If you have a choice please use an alternate dump. These guys charge a lot.

Scotty was super helpful in explaining to me how their composting process works. I appreciate the diligence that they take to separate the yardwaste/plant materials composting from the restaurant food scraps, and their knowledge/familiarity of OMRI standards and producing a quality product.

Because I live outside their delivery area, he also gave me some help on businesses who carried the zcompost closer to me. If I lived closer, or had my own truck, I'd definitely purchase from them.

Do-it-yourself dumping of materials made easy. We came here to dump our old deck staircase along with other miscellaneous items we could around the house. We were surprised an almost half-full Uhaul cargo van full of wood pieces only cost $30 dollars, whereas other places would charge you a small fortune.

As others have stated the cost is alarming when you first come here. I brought a minivan loaded with cardboard and carpet, 60/40 of the van respectively but paid almost $100. That seems incredibly high for cardboard. There should be a way for customers to sort some of the recycling by type to reduce our costs. That cardboard should have been (basically) free to recycle, with the cost primarily for the carpets.

Completely new to junk disposal and recycling and found their online videos on how the entire process works; the videos were very informative and I did not have any issues when coming to the recycling center for the first time.

I had to remove three layers of 20' x 23' of carpet tiling + padding, which I had to do three separate runs in as I had them stuffed into my sedan. The pricing was as stated on their website and at the site - $30 each time for disposal.

Note, I had a quote of around $375 from junk removers to have them haul my carpet off, but doing it myself and paying only

Got some "Planter Mix" from here for a school garden. They donated the soil but dumped twice as much as I requested in the middle of my parking lot, leaving me to find something to do with the extra TEN CUBIC YARDS! The soil is hydrophobic, the water just pools on top and doesn't drain well. Plants look awful, kids are disappointed, and I'm mad!

$70.00 to dump a three-seater sofa, chair and ottoman? Are you kidding me? First, I was scolded for not using the correct ramp, then he says he'll help me anyway (?) When I exclaimed, "$70.00?" he said something about airspace. You see, I had tilted my sofa up so that one side rested high on the edge of the truck's locked tailgate. He explained the phony line about "airspace." So...if you can "SEE" the airspace, do the math again, minus the "airspace." I offered to lower the tailgate so that the "Highest" point of

I literally jumped out of my seat when I heard the price of my current dump! Over $120 for a 5x12 ft trailer filled with old carpet and tree cuttings!

My truck bed was empty because the trailer was already packed and ready. That was a mistake. If my truck bed was utilized, I would have paid less than $50 (like I have in the past). Tricky-Tricky; you gotta learn how to play the system. Luckily, I was doing this tow as a favor for a family member, so I wasn't stuck with paying the bill.

Brought a trailer full of misc light furniture and house disposals to the dump. It actually ran more than the dump in our last city because they measure by space, not by weight. Our dumping bill ran $50 for 2 cubic yards vs about $25 which we would have paid before. I can see where it's a very competitive rate if you have heavy condensed rubbish.

Overall I'm happy with the place. They make it easy to access the dumping area, the process is fast, and there is no smell. In addition I noticed they also sell bulk materials at a lower rate than most wholesale locations. I normally pay $25
