Services
Eggs mixed with mushrooms, green onions and fried tortillas, topped with cheddar cheese, avocado, salsa and sour cream. Scrambled eggs, cheese, homefries and your choice of bacon, ham, or sausage wrapped in a flour tortilla. Served with homemade salsa. All omelettes are served with home fries and your choice of homemade sourdough, wheat, rye toast or English muffin.

After some fun in the sun and sand down the street at Shark Fin Cove what is a better way to end the day at the beach than a yummy meal? I had this place bookmarked when I started looking into what our day would entail when we visited Shark Fin Cove.
Funny how I've lived all my life in California and there are so many beaches we still have yet to discover. Shame.on.me! That has now changed. I am making a point to visit a new spot from here on out.
Anyhow, we spent a few hours playing in the sand. Soaking the sun and let's face it the hike out of Shark Fin Cove deserves delicious vittles

We used to make special trips to Davenport just to eat the amazing fish and chips. We likely won't be back again after today. Has the ownership or management changed? The food is not the same. The french fries, onion rings and brussel sprouts were greasy and heavy from not being fried at the proper temperature. The pieces of fish were thinner and not as fresh. The beet and goat cheese salad was good, but it used to be fantastic made with better quality ingredients. Our stomachs felt uncomfortable after eating , we think from all the oil. So sad, we used to love this place!

I love eating outside with a view of the nearby ocean. It is one of the joys of living in California. This diner has great seafood dishes you can order on the go or while eating in their outdoor patio area. We came here after visiting Ano Nuevo state park and were pretty famished. We got the crab cake meal and a cup of chowder. Having lived in New England for almost ten years, I have developed bragging rights to knowing a good chowder, and Whale City's chowder was comparable to any chowder you would find at a Boston pub. What a gem! We ordered Eggs Benedict and everything was done perfectly. Poached eggs were the right amount of runny. Hollandaise was frothy, light and bright with lemon. Potatoes had enough crisp to be interesting and had a nice herb butter on them. Yum!
We also had a variety of this croissants and baked goods and they were all great. Check this place out!

The food was decent, But the experience was RUINED, but my having to wait 30 MINUTES for the check! The waitress didn't come and check on our table after even asking other waitresses.
In other terms, the calamari was decent with the lighter batter than other places.

We stopped in this past weekend 15 min past twelve not knowing that they stopped making breakfast at noon. After having no luck trying to order a breakfast burrito we started looking through the pastries. The cook came out while we were looking and said that he over heard our original order and if we still wanted a burrito he could still make it. I’m sure they aren’t able to make exceptions all the time but it was a much appreciated moment. I'll always miss the good ole days when camping across the hwy from Whale City...poor and happy...eager to catch the day old baked goods! STILL GOOD ADAY LATER!!!😆, meeting fellow rubber tramps- festival heads-& trimmigrants blown seaglass bowls filled with moles 😉 but it's nice to see a quieter Davenport...an infant field of new seeds and possibility, protected and cared for by the love of the passing many- roped off by passing time...if only in my mind...😊💛

Outstanding place and a wonderful staff. Geraldine was the best. Girlfriend and I stopped in for breakfast on our way to drive highways 1 to Big Sur for the first time. I had eggs Benedict and she had the burrito. Both were superb. The egga were perfectly poached, and I am be picky about that point. Would definitely recommend and return.

Brightly colored building right off of HWY 1 on the coast in Davenport, you can't miss it. When you reach the beautiful Davenport beach on one side, the other side will be the quaint town of Davenport. The Whale City Bakery is one of the three dining establishments here, and they are all next to each other.
This bakery serves sandwiches, burgers, and simple dining affair for a busy restaurant. They do have their own parking lot to one side, and their outside patio is always busy.
Good place to grab a quick bite if you want to skip the Taqueria or the upscale dining spots next to it.

A required stop on scenic Highway 1 in Davenport just a few miles outside Santa Cruz. Amazing bakery and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Avoid the weekend crowds and tour buses. Take away, outdoor seating, and now indoor too. Enjoy a fresh baked pastry or hearty meal amongst the ocean breezes. Large portions and reasonable prices. Limited free parking.

I love a good fish and chips plate. Near Davenport, this little shop has a lot of good options.
The fish and chips is generous! The fish, tender cod in a Greta batter that is fried to perfection. The same goes with the fries. These were perfectly crispy.
The tarter sauce accompanied it quite well. I enjoyed it all! They have a cute patio area outside. This is a cool spot to grab some food too and sit near the beach.

To the person who said they were threatened by the staff here- funny I clicked on your profile and it's not the first time you put in a review that wait staff threatened to call the police on you/your husband. Seems to be a theme with you.
This is a laid back beach hangout staffed by laid back beach people. Be nice to them and they'll be nice to you.
Not everything on the menu is awesome as some people have noted but certain dishes are amazing- hands down best calamari ever and it's exactly the same quality as the last time I was here a decade ago.

What we witnessed Monday night was horrible. We heard the server tell the couple sitting at the table across from us on the patio that they have a bad attitude because they asked for water earlier and hadn't received it yet, and i heard them order drinks- which they didn't have yet either. They actually had been sitting there for a while- maybe 10+ minutes if you want to be technical - Im very observant.
Then the server physically threatened the male and called the cops. Why? They didn't do anything to warrant that kind of treatment . Then the server followed them out of the restaurant

Such a yummy local spot in Davenport! My friend and I grab dinner to go and went and sat by the beach to watch the sunset. Obviously as the day goes by they do run out of items so make sure to get there early to get the most selection. I was a little bit disappointed that there was only one hot sandwich on the menu, but perhaps this had something to do with Covid and the fact that they were not open for indoor or outdoor dining. Love this cute little bakery. It's such a treat to be able to stop here for a pick me up while driving the coast. They're right off of Highway 1 in Davenport and offer a range of pastries, drinks, and other food in a cute, local setting. I've definitely wandered in and ordered half the pastries on the menu before and had no regrets.

The fried artichokes are delicious but are meant to be shared by 3-4 people. They are tasty but very oily! 3.5 stars
My daughter loved her grilled chicken Caesar - 5 stars
The portobello veggie sandwich was alright (2.5 stars) - the Blu cheese overwhelmed all the other flavors.
