We will return to our usual hours of operation:. Please call (831) 427-0646 to place a takeout order, or for the latest information on dine-in availability. We are grateful for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you soon!. Zachary's Restaurant has been open for breakfast and lunch on Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz since 1985.
The favorite of locals, students, and visitors alike, our menu is built on an "everything homemade" philosophy that starts with our three styles of house-made bread (oatmeal-molasses, sour white, and dark rye) and our unique home-fries; specialties include our original "Mike's Mess", one-of-a-kind sourdough pancakes (our sour starter is purported to date back to the Alaskan Gold Rush -ask for the story!), coffee cakes from our bakery, and daily omelet specials.

Services
Local & organic tofu scrambled with fresh garlic & ginger and stir-fried in our specially seasoned olive oil. Add your choice of ingredients from our omelets ingredients list below, priced as marked. Served with home-fries & choice of our homemade breads, toasted. Three eggs, bacon, mushrooms, & our home-fries all mixed together and topped with cheese, sour cream, tomatoes & green onions.
For decades I've sworn by Zachary's as the heartland of the ber breakfast. Between the endless cups of better-than-decent java, the sensuous jalapeo cornbread and the sinful sourdough pancakes, Zachary's puts out a superior breakfast product. Recently we renewed our adoration with a post-workout visit to the home of Mike's Mess.

We've been coming here for breakfast for a very long time! It is definitely a local favorite. It does get really busy so to avoid the rush get there really early or around noon. We sat in their small outdoor area (dog friendly) in the back and it was nice. The food and service was great as always. I had the breakfast sandwhich and that was amazing. Will be back!

Hubby and I came into town to celebrate our anniversary. Stopped here for breakfast and it was great! Ordered the basic breakfast with the chicken apple sausages and was not disappointed. The portion sizes are great and rather large, I could not finish the whole thing. The orange juice was so bomb! The place was clean and our waitress was friendly. The waiter did a great job making sure my coffee cup remained full. All in all, we will be back :)

I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was super good!! It was on an oatmeal molasses bread which I've never had before. They also serve fresh squeeze juice here. We also got the sourdough pancakes which honestly weren't all that great but wanted to see if they had a different flavor than regular pancakes. The burger was good as well. Service was ok.

As someone with an egg intolerance, at first I was expecting another breakfast outing with friends where I couldn’t order anything on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong!!
For one of their signature breakfast meals, they offer a tofu alternative, and it was done up in such a way that had a similar taste and texture to eggs. It tasted great and my mind has been blown haha. So happy that they had this!! More restaurants should offer this for vegans and such.
Our server was very nice considering how packed it was. We probably only waited 15 minutes to get in on a Sunday morning. Bathroom

Came here on the recommendations of several people. Was greeted with friendly people and a friendly but timid waiter. He was helpful though.
Had the Mike’s mess omelet and admittedly it was very good. Added pancakes to the meal because the waiter said they were their specialty. Wish I hadn’t ordered them. They were paper thin, burnt and not good. My son ordered the French toast and although good had a bit too much all spice for us. Also if you order a soda expect a can with no refills.
All in all if I came back I would definitely just order the mess omelet. But it was a bit overpriced for

Personally think these high reviews have to be taken in moderation.
Four stars for food. Three for the service.
It's like a fresh ingredients specialized, old-fashioned "Mel's" (diner) & a all around comfort food menu. I was looking forward to their pancakes.
Our older waitress was not serious about her service. She spilled coffee & was rude when asking for our orders. There's a specific vibe at Zachary's and if you don't match it, you may be judged with unwelcoming cues. At least on the weekdays, dress in your beach casual, loose long sleeves or plain tees. Can't help but notice we were the
