At AGW (A Gentle Way) We do not believe that one style of yoga, or one way of teaching an asana (yoga pose) fits all. Our Founder, Lanita Varshell, is known for her unique ability to de-construct, or modify yoga asanas to fit your personal bodies ability, and current needs. All AGW certified teachers are known for customizing their classes for the students who practice with them on a regular schedule.
They do not just show up and teach yoga routines. They want to get to know YOU and customize their classes for YOU. We focus on safer, slower moving classes, and specialize in: softer, stress reducing therapeutic asanas and healing techniques with deep breath focus. This helps balance the entire central nervous system, bringing overall improved health and well being into your body and mind, which will greatly enhance your entire life experience.

Services
At A Gentle Way we believe that each style of yoga offers important aspects of a balanced practice. For best results, mix up your yoga classes as much as you are physically able to do, and mix up your yoga teachers to get a more complete picture of body, mind, breath, and spirit yoga. Lastly, don't forget your restorative, breath, and meditation sessions - the most important part of yoga!
The slowest moving class on our schedule. For students who are ready to take a deep dive into the breath and the body, these longer poses will take you into a deep place of oneness with your physical and spiritual self. Class ends with the vibrational sounds of a Tibetan bowl, taking you into your final long Savasana (deep relaxation), or seated Meditation.
There is a powerful energy that lives in the earth that can be moved up the body to strengthen, heal, and renew. This class begins from the feet UP to access this energy. It starts with simple, highly effective standing poses that can be modified seated in a chair. This is the class that is going to help you build strength, balance, and confidence without feeling like you have to keep up with others in the class.
A fun, twice-weekly class for all levels designed to help you use yoga to access & enhance your own strength in ways you never thought possible! We start with stretching our entire body, then move through a variety of yoga poses that you have the option to do with just bodyweight or add light hand weights for an extra challenge-you choose!

Did a restorative class with Lanita last night and it was delicious. She had us do some wonderful stretches I hadn't done before utilizing a few bolsters, not to mention, legs up the wall in a special way with our feet wrapped in a blanket and a sand pack on our feet and belly. It was a treat and I loved every minute of the 1.5 hours with Lanita guiding us. The time flew by. This place is like no other I've been to. Always look forward to classes at this studio.

If you want go get a great yoga workout even if normal yoga classes make you hurt try this place!
I love this yoga studio! I took classes two or three times a week over half my pregnancy. I didn't just attend the prenatal classes but also all the classes I physically felt capable of. I 100% believe the classes helped to prepare my body for labor. Yoga teaches mental and physical resilience and A Gentle Way Yoga does this.
When I recommend this studio to other people I call it "old people yoga" since the main clientele is older. But I loved that! It's not a place to compete

It's amazing what a wonderful full body workout can be achieved in the "Easy Does It - Sit and Stand Yoga" class. Chair yoga, you say? How can that do anything for me? Well, I'm here to tell you that it is not for the faint of heart! Actually, it's for anyone who is willing to try it. No judgment, just gentle instruction for every body type; perfect for anyone recovering from an injury. I've been taking it after healing from a pelvic fracture, and it's been very helpful. Try Sit and Stand or any of the classes at A Gentle Way.

My Mom is 84 and loves her weekly gentle Yoga class formerly with Carolyn and now Kristen. Each session helps strengthen her post surgery flexibility and calms her mind.
Kristen is very caring and adapts her class keeping every class member in mind. She goes out of her way to accommodate clients and guests. We appreciate the teachers, variety of classes and caring atmosphere at the studio.

I attended a slow meditative restorative yoga class with Lanita and it was absolutely AMAZING and most refreshing. It was very gentle and intimate for a yoga class. I'm not familiar yet with all of the yoga pose names and she was very good at explaining each move we were to do next so that I only had to look up at her once or twice. Which was great since it was a meditative class and I was able to keep myself in a meditative mind state without looking up to see what I was supposed to be doing. I absolutely loved this class. I felt so comfortable and relaxed during her class and soooo refreshed

Everything about the studio is welcoming- the teachers know how to help anyone who walks in the door. There is no other studio like this around! They focus on making poses safe and accessible while relaxing and stretching your body. And you've never seen so many props! I highly recommend A Gentle Way Yoga!

A very close friend of mine recommended Yoga Nidra Meditation. I attended my first class Wednesday w/Bonnie. The process was very different than my meditation years ago & was worried I would not relax. Wrong! The experience I had was amazing I am back 2 my happy self & that was only one class. This class is wonderful & I cannot recommend it enough to anyone.

A Gentle Way Yoga is perfect for people who are new to yoga or who simply need a slower softer approach. It is very healing and inclusive and the teachers are experienced in offering modifications for every body typ and ability. I love that the classes incorporate so much traditional yoga philosophy that I feel is missing in other studios, and put a detailed focus on breathing and meditation.

Before joining A Gentle Way Yoga I was hardly able to lift my left arm due to a major shoulder injury. After several months at this studio I can lift my arm, put it behind my back , and do poses that require putting weight evenly on both arms.A Gentle Way is friendly and welcoming with many different levels and a multitude of classes.

I can't say enough good things about this studio. I was looking for a place where I could enjoy a yoga practice for my body, and I found it here. It is a welcoming environment where one is encouraged to listen to their own body and do things in a way that is right for the individual. I would encourage people of all shapes, sizes and ages to give it a try and see for yourself what it's like. You will not be disappointed!

I went to prenatal yoga here 3 times. Paid for 5 classes to save a little bit of money, but after you pay and give your email address, they then send you a $10 coupon that is now too late to use.
Amber seems a little new to the prenatal yoga instructing position when it comes to her vocals, but she's gentle and lets you comfortably go at your own pace. She's also very good with making sure you're comfy at all times and will come by and stick blocks, blankets, and bolsters wherever needed.

I have been attending this yoga studio for a long time and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a healing, nurturing community. I'm plus-sized and not very flexible, but A Gentle Way's philosophy is all about loving your body just exactly as it is and "going deep" to strengthen your mind/body connection and your connection to the divine (whatever that means for each individual). Students are encouraged to use any or all of the plentiful props to help them be comfortable in poses, as well as encouraged not to "suffer through a pose." They're very strict about

I hated Yoga until I came here for their Prenatal Yoga. My instructor Jackie is pretty awesome. Her class is challenging enough, which I like. But at the same time, it is not intimidating, and it's a safe environment. She emphasizes that "I" need to focus on myself, "me-time" basically, and just connect with my body, my soul and my peace.
Her yoga class is beyond just stretching and breathing (that's why yoga was too boring to me). It's more like a spiritual experience, which I totally enjoy!
In my class, there were a lady who delivered a baby two months ago

I recently went to my first class at AGW.
I have to admit I was a bit hesitant because of the apparent focus on students with health challenges...and I'm of normal weight, just looking for a relaxing/renewing experience. I was concerned that I might be out of place. An unfounded concern...
I took advantage of the $8 December special and was happy I did. The instructor, Carolyn, was very warm and welcoming and designed the class to fit the needs of the students.
I'll wait to attend a few more classes before considering a 5-star rating, but I must say I really liked the vibe of this

I've been attending classes at A Gentle Way for a year now, and I feel at home. The teachers and staff are wonderful. I've never found a studio I connected so well with as here.
No matter what your level, there is a class for you. They also focus on large bodies and those who can't move much. Try them out!
