Welcome to the Alpine Moose lodge, a small mountain getaway nestled into the hillside overlooking our historic town of Lake City. The property hosts a nine room lodge, a comfortable dining and socializing area for guests, dart boards, a pool table, and outside patio areas to enjoy.
For those with adventure on the mind, you will find the Alpine Moose is a convenient location to all the sights and attractions Hinsdale County and the surrounding areas have to offer, while still being far enough away from downtown to offer the peace and serenity you expect in the most remote place in the lower 48 states.

I did not know places like this still existed.
I arrived late and the proprietors were on a resupply run - in the key box was a hand written welcome note with my room number. Great start to my vacation.
The rooms are BIG, super clean, and well stocked. Internet is solid.
The location is perfect for those hitting the hiking/climbing trails as well as 4WD and ATV routes.
The owners - Michael and Tracey - are the nicest folks you'll meet. They go out of their way for their guests.

Very frustrating when booked thru Booking.com for 137 including tax and fees. When arrived was told by owner/manager/bookkeeper that price was 161. She was adamant that price was 161 due to booking fees. I have never had this happen before and have used Booking.com several times. Did not feel this room was worth that. Very outdated. Would not have paid that amount for this room. Did have nice view with 2 chairs out front. Also was clean and quiet location.

I had a reservation for June 2019. Unfortunately due to the avalanche debris and potential flooding, the event I was going to Lake City for was cancelled. I requested a refund for the room. However, the owner asked me to just post pone the reservation until the following year. I agreed. Then COVID happened and the event, a running race, was cancelled for the second year in a row. I was planning to run the race in 2021, however I broke my leg and was unable to participate. I requested a refund for the reservation that was paid for and never used. I received a few responses saying they would get

There are 3 very big issues with this place and many minor ones. The three that should close them today are:
1) The electrical and plumbing run next to each other inside the wall. It's all dated back to the 60's and has not been updated. Safety is a huge concern!
2) There is back mold in the walls. After one day there I had a terrible time breathing. I was told by Mike and Tracy (the owners) it was due to elevation. However, after several days of not getting acclimated I learned they were very sick with bronchitis before my stay. We actually saw the inside of walls fixing the constantly leaking

The owners don't seem at all concerned comfort and hospitality after check in. Rooms are dated and too cold or hot. The guest has no way to control the room temperature. The shower was terrible as well no way of regulating temperature. The owners can be either rude and insulting or dismissive and neglectful. Judging by the size of thier pupils, narcotics play a part in thier behavior and temperament. The fact that these two carry firearms is problem waiting to happen. I would run in the other direction.

The three nights prior to staying at the Alpine Moose Lodge in Lake City, my wife and I had lodged at three chain motels. We knew we wouldn’t be getting that experience, but weren’t sure what we would be getting at the Alpine Moose Lodge. From the outside, the six rooms share a common front, but once we entered the door, we were very pleasantly surprised! It was a cabin room! It had (and still does, of course) a high vaulted ceiling and hardwood floors. A cool touch was that both mattress frames were supported by actual tree trunk segments. Unlike many cabins, though, this was very clean throughout

This place is awesome! Tracy was very accommodating when we had to check in late. She made sure we had up to date information on the hikes we were going to do in the area. She also gave us some great suggestions for restaurants in lake city.
The rooms were nice! Comfortable beds and plenty of space. A nice kitchenette in case you wanted to cook your own food. Definitely coming back to the moose!

We needed a place to stay last minute after needing tire work done from crossing Engineer Pass. Tracy (the owner) was incredibly accommodating and got us two rooms right away and let us check in early. The rooms were clean, and when we needed an extra fan, the staff went the extra mile to find one and bring it to the room for our kids.
