Schug Carneros Estate Winery
Schug Carneros Estate Winery celebrates the 40th anniversary of its first vintage, made when a passion for Pinot Noir led patriarch Walter Schug to establish his own label and eventually leave Joseph Phelps, where he was the founding winemaker crafting wines that put Napa Valley on the map. Now the family-owned winery is entering a new chapter, with dynamic young German-American winemaker Johannes Scheid bringing modern touches to the estate's European-styled wines.

Schug's 100-year-old heritage - stemming from a Pinot Noir estate in Germany's Rheingau region originally planted in the 12th century - spanned an era of pioneering winemaking in Napa Valley before putting down roots in the cool-climate, wind-swept Carneros hills in Sonoma.Today, Walter's children are preserving their family's rich winemaking legacy for generations to come.
Services
Get speedy delivery! The Schug Estate vineyard, planted in 1989, sits at the base of a high ridge at the windy Western edge of the Carneros AVA in Sonoma County. This bottling highlights several clones of Chardonnay grown on individual blocks. The Wente selections grown on the loamy soil of Blocks 3 and 5 have smaller berries which give the wine a rich texture when young, and in time develop an oily, succulent mouthfeel.
Venture off the beaten path, down a country road, and enjoy a guided tasting of five limited production wines outside in our charming courtyard. We invite you to experience an intimate tour of our small family-owned winery, followed by a seated tasting of hand-selected wines with Claudia Schug in our winery cave.
Introducing the Schug Virtual Tasting Experience, led by Winery Partner and Director of Wine Education Claudia Schug. Are you looking for a fun way to interact with friends, family, employees, or clients from the comfort of your home? Winery partner and Director of Education Claudia Schug will guide you and your group through an interactive and personalized wine experience from our estate in Carneros.
Enjoy a selection of four or eight bottles shipped directly to your doorstep four times per year in February, April, September and November. The wines included in our wine club shipments are selected to complement the seasons and are available in your choice of all red wine, all white wine, or a combination of both.
Our Rouge de Noirs is made with 100% Carneros Pinot Noir and is much like a brut Rose. But it's ever so slightly darker in color since it has a little more skin contact when it's first made. The flavors and bouquet shadow our other Pinot Noirs but show delicacy and elegance. We love pouring this wine!

What can I say? The best wine in the valley, the nicest people you could ever find and a beautiful location. More stars are needed for this one!!!

We did not have a good experience. They are very rigid in their tasting experience, so you better want what the have on their lust for the day. If you don’t enjoy all varietals, you are out of luck!
And, the hostess didn’t spend very much time with us at all. We spent over an hour and spent most of the time looking at our empty glasses. Worst experience we had from the 8 wineries we visited on our trip. And, the wine we tasted was not great
We left and went to Roche nearby. - Much Better!

Awesome hidden gem! Nestled in the back hills, this winery has a unique sparkling Pinot that's to die for in a hot summer day.

First of all let me say that Schug has good wines and I've purchased their wine during my previous visits. I had memorable times at the old wine tasting room with the previous staff. I believe they had a few elderly gentlemen that are sweet and charming. I wish I could say the same about the current staff. In particular, I do like to point out their Outreach and Estate concierge manager (Jamie) was not so hospitable. Wine tasting is an experience that comprises of wine and the memories built around it. Thereby, I certainly do not recommend Schug for their lack of hospitality which is a bit disheartening

Great family winery. We have been members for over 2 years and have really enjoyed our selections. Price point is very good value for the quality of wine you will enjoy. Highly recommend the cave experience. Only downside is that the wind picks up in the mid afternoon and the flies get pretty bad in the warmer months. Great staff!

My husband and I just experienced our first ever Schug cave tasting this past weekend and we LOVED it!!! Kyle should win the award of World’s best (and most knowledgeable) manager! He was simply phenomenal and was the main reason why we joined the Schug wine club! Of course, the wines speak for themselves, but there’s something about a wonderful, knowledgeable staff member that makes the whole thing just work. One of the best places in the area for sure!

This winery is located amongst a winery-packed area and was a nice, convenient stop between going to a couple others but I have to be honest - it wasn't my favorite.
The scenery was gorgeous, but there's no outdoor seating for tastings, so you're standing inside this little area doing the tasting and it feels more like a "please buy our wine and leave" experience than a "come have a nice time and enjoy our space and buy the wine if you like it!" space. The host was super nice, but being inside standing just made it feel uncomfortable.
Overall, I'd recommend it to fans of red wine - that definitely
