Maplewood Animal Hospital
Maplewood Animal Hospital provides sophisticated veterinary practices with the attention you expect from your hometown vet. Dr. Ernest Rogers treats your dog or cat with skill and care. He takes the time to help you understand any problems your pet may have, offers treatment options and carefully explains what you need to do to help your pet get better.

Centrally located on Springfield Avenue, and convenient to South Orange, Millburn, Union, Irvington and Newark, Maplewood Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital offering a range of services including dentistry, internal medicine, surgery, anesthesia and pain management and USDA Travel Certificates.
Services
We offer boarding for pets who are current patients of Maplewood Animal Hospital. We do this for the safety of your pet. If a dog or cat is a patient, the hospital has information on its behavior, vaccination status and the use of flea and heartworm protection. This enables us to better protect all boarders.
Preventive medicine requires a discussion of life style and owner concerns to ensure patient health and safety. The owner and veterinarian develp programs for each individual and review what this entails. This is critical if pets are to remain healthy into older stages of life. When it comes to vaccinations, at Maplewood Animal Hospital we believe that the pet owner and the veterinarian need to discuss risks and benefits.
Vaccinations are a necessary part of pet care. But in order to limit any side effects or problems, we always conduct an exam to ensure the animal is in good health and able to respond properly to any vaccines given. It is important that owners understand that there may be a mild reaction to a vaccine, often soreness at the vaccination site, lethargy from 24-48 hours, more sleeping than usual and lack of appetite.
If you are considering traveling with your pet. it is important to think ahead and find "pet friendly" hotels, campgrounds and resorts. Always make sure you have the appropriate vaccination certificates, flea and tick preventative, heartworm medicine and other appropriate medications needed by your pet.
There are over 12 different "pet insurance companies". The issue of which insurance company we accept is a non-issue! We accept all insurance companies. The way insurance works, in veterinary medicine, is that the OWNER pays the invoice at the time services are rendered and then applies for a reimbursement from the insurance company.

Do not go here. Vet is aggressive and rude. I took my healthy, house trained, confident dog to him once and after his aggressive nature with her she now pees in the house constantly, cowers when shes touched, shakes and runs when she hears loud noises. She never exhibited these behaviors before and did not show aggression or fear before her visit with him. I am completely heartbroken seeing her behaviors change when she has been nothing but a sweet loving dog.id also like to mention shes a rescue dog and he felt she was trying to bite him despite her not moving, growling, or showing aggression

Took one of my dogs in for a ongoing issue he’s had. My regular vet could not see him for a month. It seems its easier to get a brain surgeon than a vet appt. This Dr takes walk ins on Saturdays! At first I was put off by his tone, and couldn’t quite “feel him out”. Then when my dog (who has good discernment) took to him immediately, and his spirit tells that he really cares for his patients, all was well.
Although the facility isn’t modern and could use a little hell with a filing system, but from what I saw (and I’m not nosey enough to dig deep) it is as clean as hospitals for people

I called about putting my 18 yr. old dog to sleep and I was being questioned why - understandable. Then I was questioned if my dog had all his vaccines - like a vaccine was going to be of any help at this stage. Hard enough going through the process on saying good-bye to an old friend and family member. I didn't appreciate being ridiculed about being behind on shots - 18 yr. Australian Shepard ... I think I know how to give a dog a full life. Stay away from this place.

Dr. Rogers is very knowledgeable and cares for EACH animal he treats. He takes time with each patient making sure all your questions are answered and that the animals have the best care. He personally follows us on the animal to ensure treatments are working and the patient is getting better. I did not give five stars because I think he could use some help in the office and the place could use some tidying up.

I have taken my cats and dog to Dr. Rogers for several years. He is always gentle with my cats and my dog loves visiting him. (Sometimes she takes me there on her morning walk, although he is not open at that early hour) His prices are reasonable and he does not pressure you to agree to expensive invasive procedures.
Over the years I have had two older cats get sick. Both times he explained all the options, and both times I opted for less invasive palliative care instead of lots of tests and surgery. Neither time did he urge me to do more, or make me feel like I cared for them less, because I

Dr. Rogers is the best. He has a low key animal clinic and he loves your dog as you do. Most importantly, he looks after them and wants them to thrive. He is 100% attentive whether you are ordering food from Chewy's or emailing him a question because you don't know what the right thing to do for your pet is. I am so happy Dr. Rogers is our caretaking doc for our new dog Dario. Conveniently located on Springfield Avenue in MPWD.

By closing his doors. This man has no business being around any living thing. Legal action is being looked into for the way my dog was treated. Do not bring your animal there!
