Hatcher Winery
Matthew Hatcher is owner and winemaker, and his wine making talents have put Hatcher on the "Don't Miss" list of Foothill wineries. He is assisted by his brother/partner, Sewell Hatcher and assistant winemaker Scotty Hancock. Hatcher Winery is located in the Sierra Foothills with the winery and tasting room in Murphys, and estate vineyards in Angels Camp and Vallecito.

Matt's commitment as an owner/winemaker is to work with the vineyard managers in growing premium fruit complimented by the best oak barrels to suit the wines. He manages his vineyards with the same level of integrity, producing the Estate Zinfandel that has been so well received. Hatcher wines cover a wide spectrum of tastes and are reasonably priced.

The wines are very good, the prices are good, and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Especially Sewell. Some people find him rude, they just don't get his humor. Hatcher is a really fun place to go. We always go there to to taste and purchase wine when we are in Murphy's

Hidden gem in Murphy's. Wines were great and reasonably priced. They had one worker only and she was on top of it.

Absolutely delicious wines! Of the eleven we tried there was only one I really didn't care for which is highly unusual for me. While I'm more of a red wine drinker, their whites were refreshing and smooth on the palate. An added bonus is how reasonably priced the wines are--averaging $26-$29 a bottle. This is a tasting room you don't want to miss!

I love the owners and I love all of the wines that I have tried. They age well and for a good long time. I am especially fond of Beckman Zin and the Reserve Zinfandels especially. The whites are good too I am told by the ones to whom I serve it. You will probably make them one of your favorite wineries as many of our friends have done!

Amazing wine! I will say the man who poured the wine was extremely rude. His comments towards myself and our group were very degrading. I left in tears.

We love making a stop at Hatcher. For years, we have always made sure we have plenty, we never run out. Case prices are the way to go.

My good friend introduced me to Hatcher a few years ago. Since then, I've become a wine club member and have been for about a year now. I figured, what the hell, since I travel from the bay area at least 2-3 times a year literally to visit their winery and buy their wines. I'm always amazed how consistently great their large selection of wines are. Sewell has always taken care of me even before I was a club member and even personally delivered wines to my house during Covid - 19!!! Fantastic!!! If you're looking for a winery that has more than one or two "good" choices, check out Hatcher!!! You

Hatcher is easily my favorite winery in town. They're super friendly and inviting and make you feel comfortable. We always leave with a ton of wine too because it's so good!

Best Winery in town! Love the owner. I love respect how they are following guideline of social distancing and if anyone has a problem with that, you're idiots. This place is a little rough around the edges but it's so worth the wait. You won't regret tasting here. Don't leave without a bottle or 6 of Parcel 17!!!

We visited Hatcher Winery last fall, and while I generally am pretty bad at leaving reviews, it seems that I shouldn't let being late stop me from adding our experience to the picture here.

We had a great time - even me, and I was the designated driver. Sewell was perfectly entertaining and we had a great conversation about music, wine, and San Francisco. If someone being mildly gruff puts you off, it's your loss.

The wine was phenomenal, incredibly reasonably priced, and we bought plenty. In fact I'll be buying some more now.

I like the wine but the service by Sule is horrible. He is gruff and remarkably unfriendly even when they are not busy. The ladies are great but the winery would be a better place if he worked somewhere he was happy. He takes the joy right out of the place.

Sewer Hatcher is only interested in you if he thinks he has a sale. No patience for customers trying to decide if they like a certain wine or not. Wines did not warrant a second sip. Not worth the walk down stairs. They really need a plesant person behind the counter. I guess Matt is blind to that and throwing Sewer a bone? Much better wineries nearby and great hosts.

If you go to the wine tasting room at Hatcher Winery in Plymouth and see a guy with glasses and a Red Sox hat behind the counter don’t bother going in. He was very rude, loved to insult you and seemed really burned out and didn’t want to be there. I thought the wines were good but atmosphere very unwelcoming. Hopefully it was just a bad day for him and it’s not like that all the time.

The wine at Hatcher is exceptional with special kudos for the Syrah and Cooper Ranch Barbera. Don’t forget to get a loaf of bread before you leave 😎

I seldom write negative yelp reviews.... but this was a must. I told the tasting room host (owner manager?) that I worked in the industry, and gave him my card. I never expect an industry perk, but when given one, I do appreciate it. He questioned my card, where I work, and made snide comments about how I probably seldom work since I live so far away. I love where I work, and the commute is worth it, and I sell crap-ton of wine. This guy must not be used to that.

Decent wine, snotty, condescending service... I won't return.

Not even a hello nor welcome when we walked in! Supposedly it's a popular spot, it's not visible on Main Street, tiny tasting room. Packed with 2 big groups!

We stayed around looked at T-shirt's and a few boxes of wines on the floor! Then we left!

Don't come here if you want this service! There is another 30 wineries/tasting rooms in the Main Street that would greeted you warmly and welcome you in!

On the strength of the wines, I joined the wine club. The tasting room is lovely and they are generous with their pours. The bits of sourdough bread they provide to cleanse your palate between case are baked in-house and available for sale as well. Delicious! The staff on hand is interesting. If the winemaker, Sewell, is behind the counter you're in for an interesting time. He does not hold back his opinion and can be a little gruff but is much more interesting to talk to and than the standard tasting room employee.

Most unbelievably horrendous customer service I have ever experienced paired with some pretty crappy wine. Like .. atrociously, intentionally, mean and rude.

We came in with a small bachelorette group, 5-6 ladies, and from the moment "Sewell" & "Sarah" saw us, we were labeled. I can understand if a bar/restaurant has had problems with rowdy parties in their past .. but you are still a business.. and a group coming in, means profit. And you should professionally give them a chance. Several ladies in the group were former bartenders/servers and were prepared to buy bottles

Here again after a couple years and the wine tasting was delicious. Sewell and Ashley led me through a great tasting. The white wine was so tasty the reds are to die for. All wines have complex nose and multi faceted palate. Excellent fruit and earthy tones that set this winery apart from all the rest here in Murphys!
Great to be back in the wine club again !

Make no mistake, their wine is top notch. The tasting room is really a let down. And the salesman is not a salesman. My wife and I buy a case at a time and we are constantly reminded that:
Their chardonnay is expensive (the salesman says that)
They don't have an open chardonnay, nor will the staff open a bottle for us to have a glass even though we are buying a case.
There is a doggy poo box in the tasting room
Etc....
I love the wine that this winery puts out, but.......
