In the Fall of 2015, as Chuck was recovering from a stroke, a group of friends got together to figure out how we could help Chuck and the winery. We pooled our talents and have jointly purchased an interest in Hovey Winery. We take an active role in business operations, production and marketing.

The Hovey Winery Tasting Room is located in the beautiful, historic setting of the 1850 Albert Michelson house in downtown Murphys, in the heart of California's Gold Country in Calaveras County. Murphys was voted one of the top 10 "coolest" towns to live in, with more than 20 tasting rooms, unique boutiques, historic and contemporary lodging, community park set along the Angels Creek, and a bevy of delightful eateries all within walking distance.
A perfect way to showcase filet mignon with classic Caprese flavors and the subtle complexity of our 2017 C2 Red Blend. The rich and creamy sauce in this simple chicken dish is a wonderful compliment to the very crisp, clean nature of our 2018 Chardonnay. The sweet and spicy glaze is the star of this dish, and pairs perfectly with the bright acidity of our 2019 Rosato.
We will replace or refund you for any bottle of wine that is damaged, or flawed. We ask you to return the unfinished portion of the original bottle for replacement if possible. By law, we cannot accept returns of alcoholic beverages unless the product is corked, or flawed. We are also unable to accept the return of wine that was damaged due to adverse weather conditions during shipment, or wine that is ordered in error.

Nice place to sample. Cost is $15 but it is waived if you purchase two bottles of wine. They were out of some of the flight selections so I did not get the full experience. It also happened to be that the ones that were out are white selections which are typical my go to wines. If you have kids you can have them hang around while you do your thing.

6 of us tasted at Hovey yesterday and had a great time! They have a beautiful lawn and Rick was a very attentive server. We did not have a reservation and they were very busy but they were able to find us a spot. Dads were at the Murphy’s park with kids while we had a lovely experience at Hovey. I loved their C2 and Chardonnay.

We decided to stop here for some wine tasting on our way out of Murphys. We were drawn this this place mainly because it had a really cute outdoor set up with string lights and barrel tables. Because it was outside and of the large outdoor space that it was in, it was very easy to socially distance from other groups wine tasting. The ladies running the tasting were very friendly and sociable.
Masks are required when going in. The person who comes around and pours is always wearing a mask.
The pricing on the tasting is unclear, so make sure to clarify. It ended up being $30 for the both of us

I love everything about this winery! First off, they have the outdoor tastings with social distancing seating, AMAZING wines, beer tasting area and they serve food (sandwiches, small plates, etc). Fortunately we were able to get in without a reservation on this busy Saturday, the friendly host cleaned off our table and got us situated. The grounds are really nice with picnic tables, umbrellas, lots of shade and even little wicker sofas. They've done a really great job adapting to these Covid times. We had a wonderful, safe tasting experience at Hovey! The wines here are excellent, and the service was great, too.
My husband and I each did a tasting and really enjoyed all the wines. Our favorites were the Viognier, Chardonnay, Zin, and Cinsaut (a chilled red!).
The outdoor picnic table tasting area was beautiful, pleasant, and felt safe during this time of Covid.
The service was also great - Natasha, who took care of us, was knowledgeable, polite, friendly, and always wore her mask, which we really appreciated.

We had a very enjoyable afternoon at Hovey Winery! The courtyard is the perfect setting to relax and taste the many wonderful varietals that Hovey has to offer. It is clear they took many precautions to make us visitors feel safe - all staff wore masks, tables were well spaced and very clean. Our server was very friendly and extremely knowledge. Came in the other day during their COVID-19 transition. They had everyone sit in different tables outside as they came by to pour wines. The space was relaxing and the weather was perfect that day to be outside despite being in the middle of June (78 degrees). Our host Craig was very nice and welcoming. We didn't care for any of the white wines because we're more about reds but we tasted them anyway. They have a great Malbec here, which we purchased a bottle of after the tasting.

We were here on a Sunday afternoon and it was wonderful. The staff is so welcoming and they love to tell the amazing stories of their wines and winemaker. It’s a much more personal and friendly experience than most of the larger wineries. The picnic area is an added bonus because you can sit with your glass and enjoy the quaint main street.

Hovey is hands down the best place in Murphys to while away an hour or two. Great wines, friendly staff, the shaded lawn and porch with ample seating all make Hovey a welcoming place. The Rosato and Chardonnay (and this from someone who doesn’t like a lot of Chardonnay) are particular favorites this summer for a glass on the lawn. Check out the art and schedule of special events like music and food trucks!

Wish I could give a better rating but I can't. Was there during their Dia delos Muertos celebration, The Tasting Room was very busy. I paid my $10 for myself and a friend to taste. The pours we were given were about a teaspoon of wine, not nearly enough to form an opinion about whether or not I even liked their wine. I would say that it was not a standard pour because I have worked in the wine industry and know what that looks like. Also, the patrons standing right next to me were getting normal pours from another employee who was working there. There are over 18 wineries on my list for downtown

This place is so gorgeous! The grassy yard is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine. We bought a bottle and sat on the picnic tables and enjoyed ourselves. I know it says no outside food, but we brought some cheese and meat and was able to eat it on the picnic tables.
The wine here is pretty tasty as well, we really enjoyed the red blend. It was perfect for a hot day without being too heavy.
I will return next time I am in town!

Recently I went to Murphy's visiting a family member that had just moved there. What a treat!
Through the years, I've heard such wonderful things about Murphy's. A step back in time with tree lined streets filled with shops, antique stores & beautiful wines! Sorry Napa, I'll be going back to Murphy's & Hovey!
